Environment 4.4 for all versions

First of all completely settled 0 m wind speed of the wave structure,It is more reality.
When you compress time, you'll no longer be able to see the "plastic" and "Jelly".
4.4 adjust the volumetric fog, mist, the volume of 1.5 like at mountain's fog to up, I think it unrealistic, and the sea fog is different from the mountain fog.After adjusting thevolumetric fog, you can not see one college, one college fog, but you can feel that, the sky, the island when the vessel is implicit.After adjusting the volume of fog, you can not see one college, one college fog, but you can feel that, the sky, the island Sometimes clear, sometimes blurred.

Once again, adjust the 24-hour basic color of seawater, including the weather in different colors.Because E4.3 of the water is still too dark.
when i adjustment the wave of 15 meters wind speed.Not too big waves in the circumstances, the submarines have to make big ups and downs from top to bottom, and the spray splashing, and a splashing sound. I completed in E4.4 .

I strengthened all the ship's reflection,Seawater brighter.

Having adjusted the foams of 15 meters of wave, the present foam is more realistic.

That looks great! Got it downloaded, and am making a "b-line" back to port so I can load it up. The haze in the distance looks great the way the ship fades into it.

Havn't.
Because I adjust the AI too hard, and many people can not fight it. LOL.;)

If your PC hardware configuration low, then turn off the "volumetric fog", but you can not see the environment sometimes clearly, sometimes ambiguous .

Thx reallydepot! Another question. In version 2.2 there is the horzion a little bit foggy. Especially in mountain regions. How can we increase this parameter?

this mod is amazing but i would rework it a little bit.

The left and right drag of the boats is to much !

For example the Poirpoise original got LR = 0,3
I set it to LR = 0,25 and this looks nice !
The UD i didnt change cause your settings of UD=0,001 is needed for the swinging. :up:

Another point is the fog in the mountains.
My Clanmate posted 2 Pictures and in 4.2 you can see Dust up on the hills and in 4.4 there is no dust.
In my eyes the dust in 4.2 is to heavy but no dust like in 4.4 is not so nice !

Hi, i installed the enviromental 4.4 version , and was awesome , at daylight the ocean was wonderful colours , but i think i got a strange bug , when i turn the rudder to the right , the sub start to turn , but the sub go 90% still ahead ( with the side )and only 10% go to the right , like slipping ahead above the surface of the ocean , the same problem when i turn to the left , go mainly ( 90% ) still ahead and only 10% go to the left , i uninstalled 4.4 via JSGME , and after that without enviromental 4.4 , the sub turn normal , also i got another bug in enviromental 4.4, when played U-Boat quick mission , was dark night , the surface of the ocean was 90% extreme black, the sky was with terrible colours ,even 30% green colour in the sky , i dont know if is only my with this problems with this mod 4.4

Oh wow! This mod is gorgeous. I really like the "glassy" water when the wind is 0. From my understanding this was the most hazardous for a submarine to operate in. It also seems the wind sound has been increased cause I can hear the effect over the sea spray sound when the wind is 15KPS. Nice touch if you did that. The fog does not seem to go down to the surface which offers a strange effect. Does the fog ever reach the surface like on still calm conditions? If so, this mod is perfect.

Also, did you re-impliment lightning? I was doing a German mission and was very pleasantly suprised by a bolt of lightning!! Haven't seen it in the american career.

Thank you for the work. I wish I could contribute such for the comunity.

This is not from W_clear's work.

It's a stock game issue, only seen when looking at the crew.

In other exterior views, the fog does appear to rise right from the ocean surface. What you're seeing in the crew, is not the fog lower elevation, but a stock effect that makes a portion of the character model "transparent" to simulate looking at him through fog.

Just clarifying that this is not from Clears' mod, but the stock game.

Oh no this is not the stock mod failure.

I remember having some heavy fog and could not see the bow of the ship, and only saw a show of the superstructure, it was definitely weather where the boat would do well under water.

This problem I mentioned is definitely the result of the fog base being too high.

Also, I am not complaining, just hoping.

What kind of things can happen? I've got to use 8192x TC. I don't have the patience to sail along with 2048x. :oops:

I routinely use 8192 time compression when I'm warping around the map. When coming out of warp speed, I always pause the game for a 10 second count before resuming. That seems to work well with any environmental typre MOD I've used in the past including the previously released 4.4.

Will that work with your new 4.4a or is it STRICTLY not good to go further than 2048 TC?

Yes...sometimes I may have to do it more than once to let the game catch up...but normally once is good enough.

I had created a thread not to long ago about putting the EE 4.4 Scene.dat over top of the PE3 scene. From the thread, it appears to be safe to do. You should try it! :cool:

I don't have much of a problem at all warping about at 8192 TC as long as I give the game a 10 count to catch up...just as before.

Hi W Clear, since I use your 4.4 mod version instead of 4.3, wind is always at speed 0. :doh: I though it was because I put the game speed over 2048 but even if I load a new game or even if I restart the game, wind speed is always at 0. water effect seems to works fine now but I would have more waves now! :D

I am agree with capt Franck, very nice work you have done :up: I have tried other environment mods among the most popular but yours is really the most realistic for water graphic effect (water reflexion, foam...). Whithout pretentiousness, I draw comics (just for fun) and appreciate all kind of Art and your work looks really pretty.
So thank you for your mod to continue to improve it. If I can make a suggestion for the next upgrade, you should works on the time compression incompatibility (over x2048) with your mod. It would be cool. However, users seems to don't have problem... I am going to test it now, I have find again my wind! :oops: :lol:

Just a question, why your topic isn't sticky ? It would be more easy to find upgrades and more people could discover it like this ? :roll:

Yes that happens with extreme TC. If you use TC at higher rates than 512 for long periods of time, this is the affect that is a cause of it. Sometimes, goig back to the map screen and pausing the game put it right, or while at the map screen, try incrementally increasing, then decreasing TC. Sometimes though, you will be stuck with the anamoly. Then the next time you drop out of time compression, it will be normal.

I have not seen any reference to this: I am getting an amazing increase of fps using EE installed upon PE. I had been using ROW and now PE for months, and my rig was getting always 20-25 fps in external or bridge depending on environment circumstances.

Now I have simply put EE on top of everything else, and fps are always around 38-40 everywhere, am still experimenting things but this seems to be a consistent increase.

TMO, and RFB both mod the sub arrow out of the game. It forces you to become a better navigator and commander. Use your hydrophones to a fix on the surface ships, and then turn your boat accordingly.;)

However, if you still want the marker back, here's what to do:
Deactivate the mod, then go into the mod's Data\Misc folder and delete the UMark.dds file. Then reactivate the mod.

EE4.4 disable it but I have unfortunatly disable this mod for the moment :cry: cause I have trouble with TC. I am trying PE at this time and this other mod show this mark.

I have tried Pacific Environment wich is good too (nice underwater colours, clouds and water reflexion) but I enjoyed a lot of things in yours too.. (specially waves, foam and smokes) I would like to make a mix of both by picking only this files but I don't know which file cause my bug and I am not good enough to pick up the rights files without making mistake... :cry:

So I am waiting EE v5 with impatience ! ;)

An older version of this mod is included in TMaru, hence the overwrite warnings. It should be safe to let it overwrite (emphasis on should).

So far I have not seen a flying sub with RFB 1.5, "so far". I am also using EE4.4a with Operation Monsun, and I have not seen any flying u-boats. I have had 15m seas in both installs.

Now for TMO 1.5b, I just run whatever pieces of EE Ducimus put into his release.

First of all, let me make one thing absolutely clear: this mod ROCKS!!! Hats off to you for making SH4 ultra realistic experience. The ocean looks so real that I have to stop my head from banging into the monitor because I want to jump in.... :D

There is one thing I would change though and I would like to know how other simmers feel about it: I think that in order to make the enviroment ultra-realistic you have overkilled it a little bit in making the night a little too dark. I have seen ocean at night multiple times and, honestly, it will never get so pitch black. Not even on moonless nights. It hinders the gameplay.... Considering that most of the submarine attacks in WW2 took place at night and the real commanders had other things to rely on, like extra three pair of eyes on the watch, they could smell exhaust fuel of the ships etc. attacking ships gets extremely frustrating with your mod at night.

Don't take me wrong. In no way I intend to slam your mod, you have done a hell of a job but sometimes it is a litlle bit better to ease up on the realistic part for the sake of a gameplay....

What do you think?

In other words, just pull out the Scene.dat file from the EE MOD and enable that single file...simply overwriting the scene.dat in PE 3? Or, just open the PE MOD and replace the scene.dat file. Actually, that is what you are doing, I think. That is, you are simply replacing/overwriting that one file in the enabled PE3 MOD.

It was late at night and I installed an older version of the mod, not the current version like a noob.

Uninstalled the game, fresh install, all works great now.

That explains it then! Thanks! :lol::up: I had cleared out all my mods and started over from scratch. It gave me a chance to reorganize things because my folder for SH4 mods had blown up to a big size. Come to think of it, after redownloading all the mods, it is still big! :oops::damn::lol:

Hey w_clear,

First off, thank you for all the hard work- EE= WOW. I absolutely love it.

Now, on to the problem- is the update_sky mod still necessary on top of EE4.5? I have been on patrol for quite a while now, and after warping through the first few weeks of my patrol at x1024 TC, I spent about 24 hours running the game at x1 TC while I stalked an IJN task force. That entire time, weather conditions remained the same- No clouds, no fog, and Wind Speed of 5.

Is this an issue or am I being dumb and just need to install the update_sky modlet on top of EE4.5?

To become more light water at night is very easy, but it is very realistic.

No moon night, the sea should be like asphalt, which is I have seen.

If there are many people like the water in the evening more light - when not moon. I can create a small patch for you.:hmm:

I have a night time problem with the reflections, they appear light in color. Is my installation wrong perhaps? I have 4.6 installed on top of PE 3.3 at the moment.

Perhaps it's not supposed to be the ship's reflection, but the extending bow-wave?
Especially in tropical waters, this can light up.

That's right, 4.5 here, at night I can see the reflections much sooner than I see the ship... it's a little weird.

A few ship have half reflections ,I adjust again when i have time.

Looks like a re-appearance of a problem that we were struggling with on ROW before Dave died. We traded some PMs and tried several things, removing a bunch of files and stuff, but never really got it sorted. Sorry to see it's still around, as it was a real immersion killer for me.

I haven't done any night/ship testing since then, so I'm not sure if it ever got sorted with any of the later ROW/PE work. Hopefully someone will be able to figure this out.

Snaptrap, I would think you, of all people, would understand that just because a mod is a so-called 'smaller' mod does not mean it is not necessary- especially after your rant in your SilentFire mod about not being appreciated. Strange that one who felt like his work went unappreciated and didn't find it a pleasant experience would come here and say something like that.:nope:

As for me, I have, and will continue to use EE until Kriller and W_clear get their super environment mod out, simply because I find it a better, more realistic experience.

Keep up the good work, W_clear, and you'll always have my support. :up:

No, that is the reflection of the ship. The bow waves are separately visible when a ship is moving at speed, and are quite prominent at night, but that is a particle effect that is not related to reflections.

I wonder if this is in any way related to the massive performance hit I sometimes get whenever a ship is damaged? It's not consistent, though, which makes troubleshooting a royal PITA; just when I think I've found the culprit, it randomly reappears again. The only way to get my performance up again, for as long as the stricken ship is afloat, is to disable 3D damage. I've not experienced any flickering or anything similar, though :hmm:

I have a 128MB graphics card and have awful framerates with Environmental Effects turned on. This is not to complain or to ask for any help, but just to say that I tried this Environment mod and it makes a major improvement...with EE turned off! Even with very low graphics settings I'm getting a lovely ocean and sky.

Just curious if there has been a fix for this yet? It almost looks as if the reflections of the ship during the night is the same graphic used for ship reflections in the day. Great mod. This is the ONLY problem I have found yet.

UPDATE: I don't think this is an issue with W_clear's mod. I uninstalled all my mods and at least still had the strange light glow around the hulls of ship. Now, the bright ship reflection from a distance....I'm not sure if that is the same graphic as the glowing line around the hull. FIX: I know this may not be satisfactory to some people but if I turn of "detailed wave ripples" the light glow around the ship hull goes away.

TMO includes elements of EE. My TMO install is my favorite as it only has TMO plus the patch and RSRDC plus its patch. Thats all you need, just load and go on patrol. Simple!

Are you referring to the anomoly at the waterline? You may also want to try version 4.6 as there are some fixes to the ship reflections, and a few other tweaks.

I guess you have some effects on, which are not supported this way until now.
Maybe you should test it without all effects on graphic settings, and then you enable them one by one.

since a few days i've got a terrible download speed so i want to avoid downloading as much is possible.

another question: is it worth downloading?, for now i only got the stock game (ver. 1.4) and i'm actually just fine with this, or do you guys have a mod which is just a real Must-Have?

The ocean in the stock game is dull and matt ( in my opinion ) with this mod the ocean is more alive, there is a bug due to the U-Boot itself because the U-Boot float too much out of the water and look a bit ridiculous , we must ask UBISOFT to correct this Bug

ok, so i've downloaded it and it worked and for now i haven't got 0 windspeed and my boat isn't "flying over the water" but i've got another problem: i cant see enemie ships.

if i press . to cycle through ships which are close by i get a view at nothing i can orbit around it and all, only there is just nothing.

so ships are invisible, i haven't tested if they can shoot me. that would mean that their textures don't load or something i guess. but does anyone know a fix for this?

Im also getting the nighttime ship reflections bug. At first i saw some kinda of wierd glowing object in the distance and got closer to find it was infact a merchant ship with a glowing reflections :hmm:

I'm still not sure how or why that would be a cause. I've tested it (and created it) with the stock game with no mods and there is no issue. Those are just missions. They don't change a thing with regard to sub physics. I also created a test mission with just a IXD2 with an environment mod and still got the high riding sub. The issue seems to appear when you start a mission submerged and then surface. If already surfaced then you dive and surface again there is no issue. You can create a simple test mission and it will be easily reproducible.

Yeah, I get the issue when running the current crop of environment mods. Like I said, though, with the bone stock game there is no issue, so whatever is causing it is introduced by the environment mods. Kriller2's upcoming PE4, sounds like it might resolve the issue. I'm sure there is something somewhere that changes the IXD2's draft, but I'm not sure where it might be.

(Though the 0m/s wind speed, mirror flat ocean is really unrealistic, are you planning to change it? Besides that, it is perfect.)

In descritpion of this mod I read that I shoudln't use more than 2048 compressed time because of some water effect glitches. It was in version 4.4. Now I downloaded version 4.6 and I want to ask if I still shouldn't use more than 2048 time compressed ? Traveling to patrol area from Midway with maximum 2048 time compressed take ages...

My second question is about glowing parts of ships in the night. Is it possible to fix this bug in some way ?

This is a bug with the IXD2 itself. Single missions do not in any way, shape, or form change the way a sub behaves. I just created another test mission with the bone stock game on a calm day (no mods whatsoever). The riding high is caused when a mission starts while submerged and then you order surface. If a mission starts you on the surface, you dive, and then surface again the sub will ride normal. In my test mission I placed a IXD2 at periscope depth and ordered surface. Anybody can make a simple test mission and see for themselves. Periscope depth for the IXD2 is 14m. In the mission editor it has to be typed in like this: -14. A positive value is for airplanes. Here is a screenshot from my quick test mission.

That's not quite the issue we are talking about above, but I am very familiar with it as well. It has to do with the way the subs roll and pitch with the waves. Kriller2 has improved that tremendously in his Pacific Environments mod. I'm not sure how the subs handle in EE as I'm not using it at the moment.

My deck watch will not come up. I'm on patrol in a storm, on a Tambor, and when I surfaced - nobody came on deck. Nothing I could do would entice them!

I tried your 4.6 mod...very impressive but...as you know tasts varies form person to person.If you allow me I will tell you frankly my thoughts and I then ask you for help to suit my needs...
What I liked:

I like the color of the sea (the new blue) and the fog effects.Very beautiful and REALISTICALLY ! Because of that made effect even when it rains the sea looks sharp and the lighting effects give it a realistic twist.Very appealing.
I like how the sub swings when are big waves.
I also liked the more realistic sunrise and sunset effects and coloristic palletts.
I noticed (and I liked it very much) that you changed the view of the sub " . " TAB. Excellent! Hight is bigger , to see the horizon and when you leave it , the view camera, it hangs and "goes" with the sub.Very clever! I liked it !

What I didn't like:


Night is too dark;It would be realistic, no argument here from me, but it's too dark for gameplay and for...me :)
The glass effect (no wind on see at all) is not realistic in my opinion (There can't be such sea with such perfect surface...) so it doesn't appeal to me unfortunately...
The underwater color doesn't match the surface "enviroment" color ...in my opinion...


What I would like form you my friend:

Teach me, please, what should I do to keep JUST what I like from your mod and how to change or dissmissed/ revert to stock effects etc...what I didin't like so...to suit my tastes ?

QUESTION: When I tried your mod I was already playing the uboat add-on campaign and had some saves.After installing your mod the saves loading crashed the game to desktop.Should I start a new campaign ?; is your mod incompatible with old saves or is not compatible with the uboat campaign ? I started a new campaign and a mission from the academy and the mod works fine so...I am just asking...

I tried this mod with the OM VX40 Beta, the latest version of Trigger Maru and the enable U Boat mod, and I got a few conflicts. I uninstalled this mod and all was fine again.

Two things to try for being to dark at night. Move your 'gamma' slider in options around until you can see it better. Turn off any background house lighting in the room you play the game in. These two things were very helpful in seeing at night.

Maybe you miss my question last time so I'll ask you nicely again:

When I end up in my german career to play with the Walther Sub...the game crashes.I noticed there are other players who reported the same problem. Is there a ...conflict between your mod and the use of the German Sub ? Did you verify that ? The mod works with Uboat campaign fine except the WALTHER sub (when you begin the new mission in carrer or load a old , non-moded , save where you already played with Walther). And if it is a conflict because of the mod..can you , please correct it? it would be such a shame not to be able to play your beautiful mod with 100% of the German campaign.

One more thing, maybe you can help beeing older in SH4 : AFTER moding the game (the green bottons, your mod and the draft surfaces one) when I tweak the settings in GAMEPLAY they are reverted to default if I choose in career mod the normal difficulty ! Before modding I didn't encounter that...Can you help me to keep my gameplay settings no matter what difficulty I choose in carrer mode campaign ?

The glass effect IS fixed in 4.7 gentlemen...:D.As the pics above show there ARE smaller waves which is very different of what was in 4.6(flat sea) :D

The reinstall doesn't work for me ! YOU really installed 4.6 and 4.7(4.7 is more a add-on for 4.6 than a mod in itself, as a matter of fact IT ISN'T !) and the WALTHER works ??????????? Please confirm that EXACTLY what mod you put and in which order...but don't lie to me will you ?:D
I would be suprised because others encountered the same CTD problem when using 4.6 mod and Walther sub...

Hello. I have strange things.
Every time i select u-boat Walther and try to load the mission i get CTD. It only happens with Walther and only with Enviromantal Mod (4.6). It normaly work with/witout other mods such as PE.
Is it possible you have the UBM mission pack because when i wanted to select the walther u boat my game chrashed also. I guess you have to unlock it or so.

the file is actually called "impurity" , its in the "data/ misc" folder so if you replace it, that will take you back to stock impurity levels.

So...you newcomers to this mod THINK twice before you use it ! If you are U Boat fans, and I think you are ,as long as you play Uboat missions add-on ,you'll not accept to play ,the campaign WITHOUT the Walther Sub. The author of the mod REFUSED repetedly to solve the problem invoking all the time the fact that he doesn't speak English well. Another way around would be if someone of you who are mod seniors KNOW how to tweak the mod files.My guess is that the author of the mod forgot to add files/ change etc for the Walther sub.As a matter of fact I wonder if he knows what Walther sub was :huh: because I find it impossible one's making a mod without testing it enough. (ENOUGH = WITH walther sub also ...:sunny:)

Maybe you ALL could give it a HAND here...because the mod is GOOD but we ALL want to play it WITH Walther sub , too, right ?

on a second note about your comments reguarding this mod, it has been in use without incident by hundreds of members for a very long time and in most cases as with some other mods it is not the mod itself that is crashing the game but rather the game files of the individual have been corrupted somehow. this usually happens when mods are installed or uninstalled out of order.

i understand you are frustrated but reading your comments i must say you seem to be jumping to conclusions and being confrontational rather than willing to discover the true cause of what is going on. i have not been using this mod yet but rest assured it has been around long enough to be well known to work without the problems you describe to be having so i would think there is definately another cause even if it only shows up when you use the mod.

the only way to be sure of your facts is to do a fresh new install of the game, then install a new freshly downloaded version of the mod (in case it was somehow corrupted) this way you can speak from total certainty that both the game and the mod are in original condition and not corrupted somehow.

before condeming a mod that seems to work for everyone else but you, always try to remember to start with a clean fresh new install of sh4 as well as the mod itself to be certain there is no errant file or corruption in your game?

If you DID read this thread you saw already there are OTHER who got the same crash problem ! And one more thing...NOT even the AUTHOR of the mod didn't say anything concerning that.What I mean is if I had done this mod and someone would step forward and say "man the mod is crashing to point X, what is to be done ?" I would have verifying on the spot...but the author didn't come forward to say that (if it's his mod fault or not) .I said another thing and that's why you are making confusions, I said that maybe, JUST maybe the unlocking problem would cause that, but I checked and it's not that.So as I see it...YOU jump to conclusions too early my friend.My advice is to load the mod and play it and see if you can play with the Walther sub in CAREER mode.(you, yourself said that you didn't play it to see if it crashes or not but you came here to teach lessons about how things work) My guess is that you'll be very...cool after that and think twice before before writing a reply.

I'm not here because I don't have anything else to do at home!
