Lets press the attack, what about when a plane is hit pilots bail out, once they are in the water...same thing as the life raft ?

I'd been waiting for this last installment of the lifeboat mod prior to starting another mission. It was well worth the wait! Too bad I'm slow on the trigger, otherwise I would've had a great screenshot of the guy standing in the liferaft with his comrades silhouetted against the flames of the burning merchant at night. Alas, it went down all too quickly. Oh well, there will be other opportunities. Thanks to Rubini, Privateer, Philipp_Thomsen, Thunder, DivingDuck, Skwasjer, Iambecomelife, Mkubani, GWx team and any other unnamed contributors for this most excellent mod :rock:

I installed it and was playing the Naval Academy Torpedo class. I zoomed over and looked around, and there they were in all their glory, crying for help as their lovely cargo ship slipped beneath the waves.

I know what you mean Venatore, I zoomed in to one of the lifeboats, they were crying for help as the medium freighter went down in the background stern first, was just at twilight, gave me the chills!:oops::up:

Working the animations sometimes makes me cringe.
It gets so much more personnal and up close.
And I do have one animation to finish that really hits me hard.
Just the way the guy moves brings back memories from
a very trying time in my life.
I will finish it though.

As the Life Boats are not seen by the game?
The rocket attack was on your U-Boat!
As in real life?
The Life Boats just happened to be there.
Priority number one was,
Sink the U-Boats.
Sorry about the survivors,
but it was total war.
Your ship went down?
You most probably died.

Convoys did not turn about to pick up survivors.
If you were luck to be hit at the lead of a convoy?
You MIGHT get picked up.

If a U-Boat was under you while in the water?

Another interesting thing: I shot a small tanker, and instantly blew it in half. It sunk very quickly, and no lifeboats were seen! I don't know how you connected sinking time to lifeboat frequency, but that's pretty impressive. :know:


One thing which would be cool is if the survivors used models of the wooden lifeboats you see on the ships' decks, along with the rubber ones. Sometimes you see wrecked wooden boats floating upside-down in the water.

Enable whilst in port and with SH3 Commander rolled back and everything should be OK.:up:

This might be a silly question.... but after rolling back SH3 Commander do I actually have to re apply all the settings I had before. (ie random crush depth, historic U-Boat availability etc..)

No, all settings will be applied automatically once you launch SH3 Commander:D

With the latest versions of SH3 Commander you can enable 'Auto Rollback'. Then you never have to worry about it again.

There is actualy a documented reference to a u-boat captain helping survivors of an attack. It seems they were towing a long line of life rafts... trying to help them reach port. Overhead some American bombers saw them, targeted them and dropped their payload on them. The Captian ordered the tethers severed and dived as they came around for a second volley. Eye witness said they blew the life boats to bits...

I'll be doing more adjustments this weekend to see if I can adjust
the last tiny weirdness out.

As someone said, the ideia of using the wooden boats,as they are on the ship models, would be awsome! this mod is great, is so real seeing them over there with their ship sinking beind!

I tried again to use the wooden boats but got error messages. When I finish some other modding work I would like to experiment with creating a wooden lifeboat as an independent unit (assuming they're not in the next update).

Another great feature would be shore based lifeboats like the ones the Coast Guard operates, as well as lifeboat stations near the coast. They could be placed in appropriate locations the same way that you can place new lighthouses - it's just a matter of designing the 3d model.

It makes the cargo ships feel much bigger, not just little toy ships now you have a human reference.

Not sure of this but I think there is a later version of this mod to the one that jimbuna has kindly put up. See http://hosted.filefront.com/OceanBlue for version 2. I believe OceanBlue is the author of this mod. I have checked the files in the zip and they are dated later than the ones posted by jimbuna but not sure if they are actually updated files.

If you mean when view is close all is ok but if you view from U-Boat through binoculars they appear to float in rough seas, that is a side effect that can't be resolved.:)

First 'shot' at it was Nov 18 `39 slabbed a tramp steamer at night s/w area of AM 35 with a T-1. Set her off from the stern tube and started to swing for an angle in case I get to use the 88. The eel detonated under her keel and a few seconds later, "she's going down".
Now it takes another minute or so for the ship to reach the debris point of course, ok. I've got 001 04 - Klaus Doldinger - U96 on the gramaphone rolling. She starts to go under just as the tune ends. 1 raft pops up, it's dark but I can see motion, even looks like someone hanging off the side. Detonations, more debris, 2nd life raft. I zoom in. Now I can hear cries for help in the midst of the ship going down, creeks from bulkheads, and other explosions.

That, was creepy.:huh:

I set back 2/3rds and then returned to course.

So here I am decided to post the first run in with this mod, and after a 2nd. shot of Vodka I'll get back to the patrol.

Yes, I agree that the mod can create some dramatic moments. All too often, whenever I sink a tanker the lifeboats & bodies end up drifting right into the burning oil...

What also adds to creepy is having the depthcharge shake mod, when the ship gets torpedoed and explodes you can hear groans from inside the ship! no kidding, this is a side effect, but also creepy!:oops::yep:

Just tried this mod an on my patrol I ran across a carrier group ~400 KM W of Spain, CG 45, an got off 4 torps at a Nelson BattleShip of which 2 were dudes an 2 hits. After dodging 4 DD I took an external view of the battleship, she was listing but had no speed lose, PLUS NO WAKE. I also noticed a 2 stack DD with no wake but couldn't ID her. All other ship had wakes. Just wanted to let you know of this bug....

I'm just wondering if it's ok to ignore it ?

I don't use the buoyancy and draft mod....but if your enabling via JSGME, give it a go and see. You can always take it out again if there is a conflict.

This mod makes my external torpedos disappear in the torpedo screen. If I try to load the external torpedos they disappear an can only get them back after a restart of the game. If I disable this mod I have no problem.

No conflicts with any other mods I'm using....

What other mods are you using? When you enable the lifeboats mod check to see which files are being overwritten and by what mods and if you remove those mods and enable the lifeboats mod you shouldn't have a problem with external torpedos.

I use mods myself and have no problem in the game in any area.

Our members had this situation and it was corrected by extracting the lifeboat&debrisv3b compressed folder to the desktop and then deleting the optional folder and the word doc inside the lifeboats&debrisv3b folder then copying the lifeboats&debrisv3b folder to ubisoft/silenthunteriii/MODS folder or where your installation is then activating the mod with JSGME.

The second mod for oars I believe you are talking about we don't use as we are waiting for the next update, However, I believe from what I've read that it should be ok to install as is.

Remember, you will not see lifeboats from warship sinkings only merchant sinkings.

That's weird.
I get life boats from War Ships.
And looking at the files?
All the needed things are there.

You don't always get life boats.
If you break a ship in two?
No life boats.

I had to run a test mission 5 times before that unit spawned them.
Seems pretty realistic to me.

That's good to know Privateer, from what I read in other posts lifeboats didn't show up when warships were sunk due to their shorter sinking times. Since I've only seen the lifeboats after merchants have been sunk I held the above information as true.

I currently have v3b, I hope I haven't missed an update!!:o hehehe.

I'll certainly be looking more closely after I sink the next few warships I get the chance to and that isn't all to often as I go for preserving my crew and boat instead of putting them at risk:up:

That is very cool:rock: I apologize if I have given the impression that I've seen LBs every single time, I haven't:nope:.

It's great to see a ship sink fast and at an angle where the bow or stern goes down first and no LBs are spawned. It gives you the realistic feeling that the vessel was in a critical state and couldn't get LBs away making it a sad day for the crews and passengers aboard. GWX and this mod really get me thinking at times:hmm:

ps: after reading through this thread--seen where it was stated that this would be evovling & there was also a post about what happens with a wrecked plane (I think). Does anything show when you down a plane in the water? (though with playing any of the major mods--downing planes is almost impossible compared to stock).

How hard would it be to be able to come across a downed floating plane wreck??

I had tried to play with the Idea of a floating arado a ways back in a crude rudimentary way but it was beyond my abilities:
has it already been done with the advent of all of the floating objects now in the game? Is it now possible? (edit-have seen that it has already been done).

This is concerning my other post 'bout this mod screwing up my torpedo screen.

After uninstalling this mod the game worked for a short time, but went back to screwing up on the torpedo loading screen. So I DISABLED all my mods an ran the game, after backing up my saved games, the torpedo screen still screwed up. I went back in saved game to the sub I had B4 the IXD2 an all worked fine. It seems the added 2 torps on the torpedo screen for the IXD2 doesn't like my setup.

The barrels are not finding thier texture for one thing.
Most importantly though,
they are spawning on top of other objects.
That's why the wooden barrel and what appears to be part of
a boat look strange.

You are running the version 2 only?

That was my thought at first. But Version three did not solve the problem. It is still the same. This problem only appear in campain. In trainingsmission it works well and it appears only in WAC 3.0. Any further ideas? Thanks for spending some thoughts on it!

I have had the boats spawn too close to the sinking ship and drift through the hull, doesn't look that flash but just a small querk, I can live with it, I do love this mod!:yep:

An update from me. I've been using an earlier version, and never got around to updating since I've been fiddling with how I want my mods and was looking at other parts first.

The point is this: Nobody told me the version with rowers actually MOVES! This is too cool, watching them row by the debris and try to catch ships passing by! This picture doesn't really show them, but there are plenty of screenshots that do. I just like the feel of a long, lonely shot.

This is an absolutely "Must Have" mod. The last I heard I think Rubini was working on making the liferafts destructible. I believe there was also some talk a while back of including lifeboats as well as liferafts.

Yes it can be done.
It invloves working with the dsd files and the SH3.sdl file.

As I recall, S3D can work with the sdl and dsd files.

It's getting close.
With all the Real life stuff, GWX stuff, New grand baby on the way,

My pickup sat for 2 months!!

No problem!!
I do over 500 miles each weekend.
And ride to jobsites all week.
On the way home?
If a road looks interesting?
I take it just cause I can.
Sometimes it takes me an hour to get to work,
and 3 hours to get home.
That cuts into what I do here abouts.
But bad weather fast approaches.
Winter is when I do my best work.
And what work I have done is nearly ready.
Just have to have some bad weather!!

I have a question...

Neutral buoyancy and increased draught:I made and tested the mod using these modifications. The new LB spawn's before ship sink mechanics uses the height from the sea level, so the ships draught is specially important for the mod works correctly; anyhow it will works even without this feature. Also note that THESE FEATURES CAN MODIFY GREATLY THE SHIPs SAILING BEHAVIOUR ON GWX2.1. BUT THIS IS EXACTLY THE INTENTION! (the ships will have a "more heavy" feeling now). Itīs an optional feature (see it on the optional folder) so, if donīt like it, donīt install it.

So the mod will work without the optional neutral buoyancy bit, but not "correctly". What does that mean? What will be different about the lifeboats if I don't enable the buoyancy mod?

The optional mod lowers the ships a tad.
So without it, it seems the objects spawn a tad latter.
Which makes it appear to me that alot of time
is wasted abandoning ship.

I guess that's the best I can put it.
I tried the optional mod and the objects appear a bit sooner.
I like that.
But I just don't like the ships lowered into the water.

With the optional mos I found that some ships leave a trail of debris and life boats
behind them when they are not sinking.

Its like the crew are throwing Bernards overboard.

I even found a convoy by following a debris trail it left behind from a destroyer that
was a little low in the water.

I have given it to Privateer already and he will add it to a later version of the mod.

I also gave him all of the little boats that you see on the bigger ships, like cutters, invasion barges, sloops, pinnaces, and heavy launches. It would be great if you saw different types of lifesaving craft appear after a sinking, depending on what the "mother ship" was. Also, rubber rafts for shot-down pilots would be another good idea.

I like the animated version of the mod but the figures in the old mod are easier to skin. Plus, I like the figure textures created by the modder who helped us (his name escapes me ATM).

And no - I did not fire any shots at the survivors. They were a worthy foe defeated in open combat. And I am no Mush Morton (most of the time, anyways. :cool: )

I'm not the greatest at creating the animations.
But I have a rough draft of Pilots free falling,
then chute opens and drifts down.
Once he hits the water?
He's there.
;)

The biggest problem was controlling the fall rate.

By creating a zone entry for the Aircraft,
then creating a Keyframe animation?
(With a few other non-standard ways of doing things)
It's not a bad copy of what SH4 has.

The models just look better!

And the Life Boat stuff will always remain as a seperate mod.
GWX 3.0 will NOT include it.

But the released versions will work for 3.0

Looking at all files involved,

An earlier version of the Life Boats may have had a conflict.
(Can't remember what it was)
I'm pretty sure that was resolved with the latest release.

There is a report of a possible conflict with another Mod.
I'll be running that down and fixing it ASAP.

Maybe they didn't have time to test it and still make their deadline? The previous versions worked just fine with GWX 2.1 for me. All I can say is try it and see, they haven't said it won't work.

That's a fairly high poly model
And the renderer is low grade.

The Life Boat guys are way lower in polys.
But still have better detail.
Noses and ears for one.
And distortion of the body parts is reduced.

The pain in the arse part is doing the rigging of the Biped.

1) I sank a Small Frieghter. Some debris came out (oil drums, crates, and I like the circular life preservers) and ONE boat. Do the number of lifeboats scale with the size of the ship sunk? (ie does a LARGE Cargo ship release 4 lifeboats?) or is it random.

EDIT: Nevermind...answered my own question after I sank a Large Merchant. Very cool how the Lifeboats and debris scale to the ship size!

2) I noticed an "Optional" folder. I saw the readme, but didnt quite understand what it said (sorry Rubini... if it means anything to you, your English is 100X better than my German or Spanish). What exactly do the files in there do, and how do you install them.

EDIT: Still not sure what these files do. I know one removes dead bodies and debris... but what about the other one? Something about the draft of the boats?

Jeeze...demanding people :) I just loaded the mod and looks very cool. Two questions

1) I sank a Small Frieghter. Some debris came out (oil drums, crates, and I like the circular life preservers) and ONE boat. Do the number of lifeboats scale with the size of the ship sunk? (ie does a LARGE Cargo ship release 4 lifeboats?) or is it random.

EDIT: Nevermind...answered my own question after I sank a Large Merchant. Very cool how the Lifeboats and debris scale to the ship size!

2) I noticed an "Optional" folder. I saw the readme, but didnt quite understand what it said (sorry Rubini... if it means anything to you, your English is 100X better than my German or Spanish). What exactly do the files in there do, and how do you install them.

EDIT: Still not sure what these files do. I know one removes dead bodies and debris... but what about the other one? Something about the draft of the boats?

Yes, you have 3 main options:
1- one file with less rowboat debris and no dead bodies
2- one file with lifeboat crew with that animated crewman standing like jimbuna said
3- a entire bunch of folders that adjust the draft and sail behaviour of the ships.

Just one small question:

Would it be possible to add ,,swimmers" from sunken ships as a part of 5.0 version? Just a simple animation of a sailor swimming in one place and waiting for being rescued... :hmm:

Sh3 have serious problems with objects buoyancy in the surface...so a swimmer will look odd in any sea state more than 5m/s...this is why we never complete the work on some debris...:damn:

Mostly what I'm working on is new animated people.

Since everyone likes to zoom in close for screenshots,
I'll be updateing the 3D Models with better details.

It took awhile to get the Biped built and working
properly for the newer model.

Hi jaxa,

How are you mate?

Will be a tribute to Sh3, to we play now and some time ahead to savor Sh3 in all it's glory and at same time with some unique new features.:yep:
The "pilot" is already ready, just in final tests and I will release it and the idea in few days. What I can say for now is that I will need help from guys that knows how to mess with the mission editor (or would like to learn)! We can built a short team with 3 or 4 ppl to work togheter, then the entire project could be ready in one month.
Ah! and it's not a super mod but will run under them!:D

Can you be the first member?;)

U allweys get the gr8 news Rubini. I will love too help too. But as u cann see my english is teribel so i dont now if a cann bee of same assistance. Maybe only as a moral suport. Keep up the gr8 work and i hope theat the mod will be over in a 1 month time:rock:
