maybe, i downloaded rfb1.52 and the same problem occurs now with the american subs.(crew is missing)
the problem maybe my version is from steam and when i install the om the fist time and run the game started to update, almost 500mb, so i thought maybe the update overrun om mod.
i installed the om again and the problem with the white tankers in port disappear, only the crew missing bug still happens all the time with rfb1.52 too.

try removing omegu and run it. I have only the minimums installed (om 705, 705-720, 720 patch 5, om plot 415) and love the campaign- no problems at all.
Of course steam may have overwritten the mod, so re-install the base game, let steam update it, then install the u-boat update, let steam update it again, then install your mods and run it.
i tested now sh4 only with rfb 1.52 and the crew bug stll occurs, i assume cannot be omegu i will try now only with omegu.
Sh4 with rsrdc_rfb_v575 only works perfect.
i did some more tests : sh4 with omegu v300 works fine, with the omegu patch7 also works ok.
i assuming the problem ,may occured during steam installation so for today i will reinstall sh4 and let the properly uptdate happen. so until tomorrow i have to play more of sh3 with gwx with all that graphics crap :nope: .
tomorrow i will reply with news, thx for the help:up: .
no luck , i reinstall, defrag, reboot but it didnt resolve my problem and i noticed another bug, the crew on the conning tower as no eyes:timeout: .
iam feeeling without hope :nope:
anyone has the solution? thx

I´m searching a mod with german clothes (caps, my priority), with historic insignas. My OM with OMEGU works fine, but I don´t like the caps with the original SH4 UBExp insignas. What is the mod for change that, and to have caps with german eagles, as SH3?

TMO is a Pacific mod for fleet boats. OM is an Atlantic mod for U-boats. Why would you combine them?

Not sure is R.U.I.M.S. caused it but after installing that MOD I noticed my Crew's Eye's are missing and haven't been able to get them back...:stare:

Any mods for OM that leaves debris fields, lifeboats and floating bodies after a ship is sunk? Put several on bottom and only oil slicks and fires, no lifeboats etc from any ship, even the slow sinkers.

PE4 (Pacific Environment 4) Had a good DEBRIS.DAT and PARTICLES.DAT but I think you would need some of the textures as well. Just install the "#4 PE4 Ship_debris_SH4_with bodies" part...

How big is that mod? I know that loading the Das Boot Sound Mod can take upwards of 15 minutes, during which time it seems that everything is frozen. Patience is the watchword here. Maybe it's the same for Spax.

Thanks for the reply Steve but I am actually getting the message (not responding) when I try to load it up. I am thinking of perhaps loading up the speech fix before OM and OMEGU but I am not sure if that will work as it could be overwritten.

Hmmm. I've never had that happen - or at least never noticed it. I'll check it out.
Edit: I checked it on my system and had no problem. I'm thinking that maybe for some reason the Speech files aren't connecting properly. The first "Alarm" shout is tied to the Speech folder file 'Crash_Dive.ogg', and the rest of the scene is in the outer 'Sound' folder. Try hitting Periscope Depth and see what sound you get. That one is also a 'Speech' file, and if it's in English then for some reason your Speech folders didn't end up in the right place.
If that's the case, and you don't mind being stuck with DBSM, then you can try installing it manually.

It would take major surgery to remove, I am sure. What is the issue with Kiub? I find it adds a lot of realism and immersion to the U-Boot.

There is a mod with only the KiUB, without OMEGU. I think - only I think, I´m not sure - if you eliminate the files presents in the KiUB only mod from the whole OMEGU, you will have OMEGU without the GUI.

Are the sensors in OM compatible with RE? I think the OM mod is compatible with stock SH4 1.5 or OMEGU.

The Operation Monsun Environmentally & Graphics Upgrade (OMEGU) is designed to provide a upgrade to the environment along with changes to the graphic elements. Also there will be upgrades to various sounds and crew voices to enhance the in game experience when operating in the Atlantic Theater of Operations (ATO).
OMEGU has three mods at its core, for environment upgrades, “#1 Real Environment mod install” from “NEW Real Environment mod”, Graphics and Sound “Sh3toSh4 V3_RSRDC_OM” and for plotting “OM_Plot_V300”.
So I think to be able to recreate OMEGU partially without KiUB GUI

In Op Monsun no ships are neutral. I don't know why, but ever ship is a valid target. I don't sink them because like to play like real life, but the choice is yours.

It's actually a sensible enough solution to the lack of the game's modeling of rules of engagement/prize laws etc., to let the player make the judgment. It certainly makes some sense as from very early in the war, any ship sailing under enemy convoy protection, or directly through in enemy's territorial waters, would be considered a target. So it would be bad to penalize the player for sinking a 'neutral' there. Rules of engagement constantly shifted early in the war, though, and rather than trying to model or generalize them, I think lurker just decided to let the player make those decisions. I stick to what I know about these rules and changes in them as best I can. Not the most elegant solution, sure, but it works given the game limitations.

Only Lurker can answer that question, and he doesn't come around anymore. The Type II is even worse. he has 44 men aboard and in real life the IIa was 25 and the IId was 28.
I just dismiss the extra men and live with it.

Waait.. So is Om basically turning SH4 into Sh3 with graphics and the good ole stuff??!?! :) Ive died and went to heaven.. One more thing though.. In Sh4 is the sinking of ships the same as Sh3 modded with GWX?? (Compartment or flooding)) and what other nifty mods can I add on to this wonderful mod to make the experience that much better?

With OM the ships take a long time to sink, and you don't get a message until the ship actually goes down.
Not only are the graphics much better, but the crew management is a major improvement. The have three watch bills, and they rotate themselves.
When you click 'M' for a radio message you are no longer taken to the radio room. You are instead handed a clipboard with the message on it, and it appears on whatever screen you happen to be on.
There is minimal crew in the control room...until you click "Battle Stations". At that point all three watch shifts come on duty, the crew is visibly replaced by the senior members for each position, and extra guys appear turning wrenches and fixing things.
All ships have crew members walking around the decks.
There are not so many options as in SH3, and a lot of the little goodies (like the harbors and bridges from LSH3 and the up/down/rotate antenna and flag mods) aren't available. On the other hand, the lifeboats and waterstreams that have been modded into SH3 are stolen from SH4, where they are stock items. People are starting to mod SH4 a little more. A lot needs to be done, but overall it is much better.

It compares favourably with a lot of SHIII supermods actually. It lacks some of the finer details of GWX and SH4 is slightly hurt by the lack of an equivalent to SHIII Commander, but OM makes up for it with better graphics and focused, challening gameplay. It's a very no-frills mod but it does absolutely everything it promises to do well. The campaign in particular is second to none, with lurker's usual depth of research - the campaign traffic at sea is probably even better than any SHIII mod available. And you really don't need anything besides OM + OMEGU to get the full experience.

Ah yes. The Scheer mod is very solid. Not very realistic (due to AI responding to it like a sub, mostly), but tons of fun if you like big guns :D

People also complained about SH3 in the early days because they thought you were supposed to patrol for 24 hours and go home, when you're supposed to stay out until all your ammo or fuel is gone.
In SH4 you don't do an assigned mission and then go home. You radio in that your mission is accomplished, and they give you another assignment. In OM you are rarely ordered to drop off anything. The mission is almost always patrol within a given radius of a given point for 72 hours, and then radio in. The new assignment will either be a new patrol area or "Go where you think you're needed". Those aren't the exact words, but basically after you've fulfilled the assigned task you are given free reign to go where you want.

Well, U-boats in the OM campaign do what U-boats really did. Which means patrol for tonnage. It's much like lurker's earlier work on the RSRDC campaign for American boats - really is focused on realistic tasking and traffic.
So to answer simply - you are assigned patrol areas. They're not like in SH3 in that they're a little wider (usually) than one grid sector and you can radio back after completing patrol orders for a new objective, like Steve says.
I played the entire OM campaign, and other than a few specialized events (like resupplying at specific times if you are playing a Monsun boat enroute to the Far East), I've never had an actual mission that was not "go to objective area, patrol x hours" in what I think ended up being about 30 patrols.

Unlikely, sadly - it seems that lurker has left modding for good.
However the good news is that OM (and RSRDC) are pretty much complete. At least as far as campaigns go, I don't think it's gonna get any better than this for SH4. And other modders can certainly continue to add extras such as new models for boats etc.

I was sad to see Lurker go, but what he left is just awesome in execution and scope. It captures the War in the Atlanta very realistically. The campaign layers in and of themselves are a work of art.

Well thats very upsetting that he has left the scene. I suppose he worked hard enough and deserves some time off.
But I am having issues, I can't tell whether I have installed the game correctly or not as far as the mods. I have done what appears to be correct according to the first post on this page, yet I can't tell if I have the game/mod installed correctly. There are normally check sums or a splash screen to let you know when you have installed the game correctly.
For one when I begin to play and go to the map to get my mission brief the game map focuses on the Indian Ocean even though the text is informing me of grid X in and around the Atlantic theater. That doesn't seem like I have installed something correctly.
Also I have read/ glanced over the "readme" files (change log more than a readme) and I can't find anything on what setting I should enact. Meaning I don't know what realism settings I should activate. I would like to play as realistic as possible but I understand some mods have certain features they have placed in the mod that the general in game setting might override or take away from the actual mod.
Can anyone help me in my confusion?

People also complained about SH3 in the early days because they thought you were supposed to patrol for 24 hours and go home, when you're supposed to stay out until all your ammo or fuel is gone.
In SH4 you don't do an assigned mission and then go home. You radio in that your mission is accomplished, and they give you another assignment. In OM you are rarely ordered to drop off anything. The mission is almost always patrol within a given radius of a given point for 72 hours, and then radio in. The new assignment will either be a new patrol area or "Go where you think you're needed". Those aren't the exact words, but basically after you've fulfilled the assigned task you are given free reign to go where you want.
OMEGU is an environment mod made to work with OM.

For one when I begin to play and go to the map to get my mission brief the game map focuses on the Indian Ocean even though the text is informing me of grid X in and around the Atlantic theater. That doesn't seem like I have installed something correctly.
I don't think this is actually a problem. The original game was never "rigged" to provide briefings outside of the Pacific/Indian Ocean theater, so that translated into OM. This has no bearing on actual location of orders or gameplay though - my game is the same way. Once you're in the actual mission, you can see your objective on the map. If you know the grid system, you can also easily look it up elsewhere.
There's also the occasional issue with patrol objectives being located a bit outside of the grid that the briefing says they're in, but generally speaking they're quite close. This is again mostly due to lurker having to work with different coordinate systems and sometimes getting the coordinates slightly off. Again, as long as you follow the map markings in the actual game, you should have no issue with this.
Just be sure that you've installed OM/OMEGU as the very first thing after the original game. I'd be very careful with installing any mods on top of that as well unless you are absolutely sure they're compatible and don't cause conflicts.

When I loaded the game up and played a few minutes it just didn't feel like the mod was active. I have played the mod before but I have been away with hoi3 sf and fallout nv so it has been a few years since I played but I don't seem to remember it being like that.
It might entirely be possible that I am mixing memories of GWX and OM and RFB since it has been so long. Just looking for a visual que to quell that gnawing feeling in the back of my mind. Thank you for the timely responses it is certainly good to be back at subsim.
Also one of my main questions is in regards to the map updates. I seem to remember you could turn off the no map updates and it would show units on the map but would not show the line that show what direction it was going. Is this right or was it apart of another mod?
Edit: Come to think of it I seem to remember TMO being compatible at the time I played. Doesn't TMO have the no map update mod that I mention in the previous paragraph? Is it my understanding that TMO now breaks OM? Would there be anyway to single out out that one file and add it back without breaking the mod? What file would I need to add? So many question I apologize.

You can tell if the OM MOD is activated by starting a career. If there are career start dates prior to 1943 then OM is most like activated.

Oddly enough I think I might now what's wrong with my install. When I had my initial install I had a folder in the mod folder named omegu 300 pkg. I install that via the installer and it would make alot of folders within the primary folder outside the mod folder. Once I installed the folder on the outside of the mod folder everything worked fine. The main menu is different and everything. Strange but that wasn't mentioned in the first post. Perhaps the post needs to be updated perhaps put just a tad bit more information seeing as the original is very cut and dry.

When install OM, this is the intro screen with OMEGU installed. Without OMEGU, the intro screen is SH4 U-boats missions default.

Dang, I don't know. In SH3 there is a folder right up front for Crew, and it contains the separate files for uniforms, faces and hats. I looked through SH4 and couldn't find it.

Lurker put in a different start position for careers out of Keil. You will start the career at the Western end of the canal. On your return trip you will have to navigate back to Keil with waypoints. It cuts down on half the tedium, once you have navigated the canal your pretty much done, its a bore.
Regardless of how much eye-candy you pack into this sim, in reality you spend the vast of your time staring at the map screen, and periscopes.

Ah ok guess I was remembering GWX again. Well hope it won't to to much of a colossal pain in the stern tubes. Just hate that it takes so long to get through there. Can't set the route perfect and tc doesn't work and it always awesome to run aground after a successful patrol. Takes all the fun out of playing out of Kiel.
Not meaning to be harsh just some constructive criticism. Since lurker is gone is nobody else taking up the mantel?

I reset LandProximity to 128, zoom in on the map and lay out a few miles, run through that section and do it over again. It still takes awhile, but I'm careful and have never run aground.

Ok, I think I have isolated my problem down to OM, I have tested with other mods including TMO and RFB on multiple game installs the US subs work OK. When i load OPMonsun any and all boats won't go to the correct depth when given the command to go to periscope depth (5M too deep). If I order to go to any other depth the boat keeps diving. Its really frustrating, I've been trawling forums and google for an answer to my problem and have found no joy... :-/

I run OM and OMEGU in its own dedicated install via MultiSH4 with no periscope issues. Sometimes depending on sea state you have to adjust your depth to get the head up above the swell.

Thanks for the quick reply, I'm going to try the regular load order once again. I completed a patrol a few minutes ago with the load order I mentioned before without any major issues. The one thing I am doing differently too though is running SH4 with admin permissions in Win7, I'll update when I know whether it works.

There's a bug with this mod.
When I play in Kiel during the game using this mod, it crashes to desktop in Windows 7 64 bit operating system. I click on the binoculars and while I'm in Kiel, it crashes to desktop. Any explanation for this strange occurance? I can't find any. :damn: I'm frustrated by this. Is there a fix for Windows 7 or something?

What is the difference between this utility and 4Gb Patch? I use 4GbPatch for both SH3 and SH4, and works fine. This utility is better tahn 4 Gb Patch?

Both set the LAA-bit in an exe-file.
Don't know why it's called the 4 GB patch though?
The LAA application will do this... "When a 32-bit application is Large Address Aware, it can access up to 4 GB on x64 operating systems and up to 3 GB on x86."
Have been running the patched exe since first tests 30/11-2010. No problems, can load everything, never had a crash. Including OM + Museum.
And OM harbours btw. Lurker's comment... 2. “WARNING” if you decide to “start” a campaign “in port” your system is going to take a “major” FPS hit. Strongly recommend that you start “at sea” vice “in port”

For 64-bit users: do not use that command...
And for 32-bit users... not really needed, since 32-bit OS gaps the 3GB RAM anyway. And with the LAA-bit set, so will your 32-bit software.

In other words in TMO with map contact updates on, when you see the ship it only shows a square (with no course indicator) and when you zoom in just a black dot.
I would like to have this for this mod along with the ability to see the course of my torpedo (the line and time) from the attack screen.
Can anyone tell me what files I need to copy and paste over from TMO to OM to make this work?

Let me start with congratulating Lurker (and everyone fully or partially included in creating this Mod) to this truly amazing work!
There's so much documentation included but still I find it quite hard to figure out which additional mods/packages (or parts of) have been included in OM/OMEGU. Reading all the included readme files did'nt give me the answers and neither has searching the forum. So maybe someone can give me a hint if any of those mods are included or not (and maybe if they are compatible with OM/OMEGU or even not needed):

Does RSRDC insert Japanese convoy and TF routes only, or does it also insert German convoy and TF routes as well? If only Japanese, then I assume it is designed for those who want to emabark on both American and Japanese campaigns using OM and OMEGU. I have a separate install and have activated TMO/RSRDC for U.S. subs, so I do not need RSRDC for OM unless it affects German convoy and TF routes. (I think that's correct reasoning?)
I have activated OM and OMEGU. What other mods are there? I could use a mod that fixes the HUD. They are all colored yellow, and with some, like battle stations and damage crew activation, it is diffult to tell if they have been activated. Is there a thread that deals with the mini mod fixes? Are SH3 mods compatible? I assme they are not.
Also, the ship identification manual has ship lengths displayed in meters and mast heights in feet. The KIUB wheel measures in meters, not feet. Is there a fix for the manual so heights is measured in meters?

RSRDC is a pacific campaign mod. It doesn't effect the Atlantic in any way.
I'm sure this is way late, but I'm a noob....why not create giant mod packages, so as to clear up much of the confusion.
For example: OpsMonsun has 7 different files Just to bring it up to date.
As an avid IL-2 fan, I found it much easier once their fans came to a consensus and grouped several top mods and additions together so gamers could get up and running on the improved more realistic game fast.
I really don't get why this isn't happening here, but hope it does.

Hey KFX you have your mods a bit out of order and some you don't need allow mento help.
The OM mods should be installed first

Then the OMEGU which means you no longer need the PE mod

You also do nor need RSRD as it is only a PTO mod and does not affect OM.
The rest can be installed last. Hope this clear things up for you.

I'm still using issues running the Kiel Canal back home. I have set the main CFG file to 128 with land proxy yet it still drops me down to 4x.
Does it matter at all that it's warning me of shallow waters? I looked and could not find a TC setting for that. Anyone have any ideas?

shallow waters warnings aren't too bad. they pop up when you are in them for a while, and then after that it lets you go until you hit deep water then reenter shallow water again

Ah I'm a happy camper now. Editing within the My Doc folder solved my little issue.
On a surprising note I stumbled across two convoys on my first two patrols off the Eastern Coast. Them crazy bobbies have conscripted Norwiegn Merchent Men to man thier convoys, but seeing as they were under Armed British escorts I had no problem sinking them crazy Sweds.

With the addition of the new ships the Museum is broken. I don't think I have ever looked at the Museum, not even in the stock game. Somewhere someone posted a solution, you may want to try a search.

Do not teke this wrong. I have great respects for Lurker and others that have done such fantastic work.
If you are unable to visit Museum, doesn't that mean there is something wrong with one or more models?
It was my understanding that the Museum should be used as test environment where models are loaded to ensure they are correct??
I have found many times that the issues related to Museum CTD are simple type-o's in a CFG or Node Names in SHS (sensors) that does not exist on Model. I have asked about things like this in past days but MOD'rs can be very busy and some times answers are very short "No Reply at all, Yes, No, You are going to die! etc.".
Do not teke this wrong. I have great respects for Lurker and others that have done such fantastic work.
If you are unable to visit Museum, doesn't that mean there is something wrong with one or more models?
It was my understanding that the Museum should be used as test environment where models are loaded to ensure they are correct??

Yep, this is the issue I was looking for! I had this happen with a really big convoy I was stalking, would get to the point where I was launching the torpedoes and CTD. I did this about 10 times with a saved mission, the final time I just changed course skirted the convoy and headed north back to port, docked without an issue.
I'm not specifically defending the mod or anything :)
But I've never had CTD issues with OM more so than any other SH4 version, nor can I trace any of the few CTDs that I have had to convoy encounters specifically...

If you are running 64 bit OS or 32 bit OS also makes a major difference in CTD fequency. 64 bit OS is less likely to CTD because how is uses available memory.
Preventing CTD:
Applying the 4GIG patch to SH4.EXE on 32 bit OS really helps.
To complete the 4 gig patch enabling > 3072 Memory Usage. You need to also run the following command as Administrator and restart system.
"BCDEDIT /set IncreaseUserVA 3072"
The patch tells the EXE it can use more then 3072 memory.
The BCDEDIT command tells the 32 bit OS to allow Executibles to use the new value. I do not think 64 bit OS needs to run this command.

There is a Menu Driven Script that comes with the tool referenced in the above mentioned post that can be used to simplify applying the patch to the SH4.EXE file.

Or you can download the 4GIGPatch made by Privateer and use it to patch SH4.exe

I know how much you like seeing all those dead bodies floating in the water, so you can add that mod if you want.
Hints. The Kiub tutorial is the key to understanding manual targeting. Use aircraft to search for target's if their bases are within range.
UBoats can handle a lot of damage, but it usually takes a long time to repair your boat. If you bring TC to level 4 or higher to repair the boat faster, the dds will pick it up.
If you want to play PTO using OM, you can activate a version of RSRDC (I cannot recall which one), and I beleive the Easy Aob mod is incorporated. I do not play PTO in OM.
I could not find a listing of convoy/TF routes in OM. I am not sure if lurker prepared one, or if he did, he may not have publsihed or released it.

I am not an expert, but you are not always given an option to transfer. On other occassions you are given an option to transfer to several differnent flotillas.

Well technically, it was never easy in real life :88)
OM is more or less what it should be. Air power in particular gets to be extremely difficult after 1943.

This is a great mod messed around with it a while back maybe a year ago or so loaded it up with the most recent files the other day and I have to say I like this mod looks great and the full TDC(whatever its called in German) is awesome nice to have that in your scopes.
You do have to crash dive alot but in a VIIA/B/C not much trouble they go down pretty fast in a IX then it is a bit more hairy.:D
I like all the tower emblems as well.

I have a question concerning neutral ships.Are they like real world WWII?In other words will I get dinged for attacking a US merchant before a certain date?
I am in a IX U-38 and my patrol started in Jan.1940 I have already sunk a Norwegian cargo and also a Greek cargo along with 2 Brit(I know they are fair game:03:) cargo and 1 Brit tanker.I passed on a US cargo ship though because I knew for sure they where not on the list yet right not in 1940 anyway or am I wrong or does OM concern itself with accurate neutrality dates?
As the skipper of U-38 I personally feel that if they are supplying England or France they are fair game(not Swedes though).I spared the American
because the crew saw civilian passengers that is my excuse.
Side note anyone else notice that the Type IX dives much faster if you order "dive" rather than "periscope depth"(P) it takes the crew around 55 seconds to slip under using "dive"(D)
and starting from a speed of 11 knots it is almost as fast as "crash"(no submariner came up with that name) dive.
P.S. I know rather heavy patrol and I am not done yet they just keep heading right for me .:D
Also gonna have to run a Type II career haven't tried one of those since SH3.

strange that I did not know this until today but the commander of U-38 cared not for neutrality he also sank Swede ships.
To hell with neutrality then:arrgh!:
By the way the real U-38 was a very lucky boat she sank 188,967 GRT and
only was attacked once for minor damage and no men where lost on her.
OM leaves these decisions up to you - there are no neutral ships in the campaign, only enemy and friendly. Any ship that could possibly be a legitimate target will certainly count in your favour. You can sink 'neutrals' for credit, however I personally keep house rules regarding these when appropriate.

I have seen this happen when doing the same thing.
I changed Tower Emblem mid mission and when I returned to base, all access to any equipment was gone.
Luckily, I had saved game just before entering port.
I changed back to emblem I started with and when I entered port again, everything was OK.

Playing OM with OMEGU of the latest versions.
In my game around 1943, I get a message saying your conning tower has been upgraded and now I have lost my crew birthing compartment, my radio/hydrophone compartment, and the space for the radar warning system, hydrophone, and deck gun.
Even worse my boat will not go anywhere, I order any speed and get a cannot comply message.
Anyone know what is going on?
My boat is a Type VIIC.

Started with the (4/40) 27th Training Flotilla. when I get to torpedo training the problem is I sink the first boat move to the second training area and engage the target. When the boat sinks the game freezes. I have restarted several time(both load and reentering the campaign) and have had the same result. I have used both torpedo and surface fire. I have lowered that graphics and rechecked the 4 gig patch. It only happens when the boat is declared as sunk. Is anyone aware of this issue and hopefully a fix, Thanks - Garry

Found the answer, yes it was me! (did you know OMEGU downloads as a package?) . Game is awesome. Made the stupid mistake of TRYING to cross the bay on the surface in "43". Re-read the Captains handbook and started again. Your work is top notch Thank you. - Garry

No, they are both supermods and have nothing to do with one another. If you want to play both you need MultiSH4, which makes it easy to have more than on installation of the game.

tha you very much for this fix, but I can´t still hear sonar target sound. I did not use the SHSound.act and Kernel.dll files, because my PC not crashes while checking sonar sound near a convoy.

2. question: How can I handle the flotation/submersion of my U-Boat? My U-Boat has no damage except the floatation. All pumps are working well and are not damaged, but not displace water from my submarine and this rapidly sunk, even though I was on the surface...:hmmm:

1. shfolder.dll fix is needed to show Museum. If you specify the ship's names of which you want to hear propeller sound, I will fix them.
Where can I find this shfolder.dll fix?
2. Even if pumps go well, hull damages will make your boat sunk. Several shots of airplanes or small warships are enough to sink us.
3. I forgot sources of "Das Boot soundmod"s I use now. I have been making mixed juice with mods, especially about sound, and I like them. You can use some mods for SH3.
Can you post a download link for your sound mod please?
4. It seems OM+OMEGU don't have lifeboats, though we can copy parts of the other mods and modify them.

I have been facing a Submarine School crashes now. I can read messages except in sonar room. It is not caused by sound-related memory corruption, I guess. Crashes are just before a radio message sent.

I click on the patrol end in my base in 1939 (Kiel) and on my list are only 2 ships (british merchant and auxiliary cruiser).
It happens to me again and again. I sink 5 ships and on my list in office after the patrol end is only 2 or 3 ships...:wah:

I had something similar happen to me and MAYBE have the reason why. I remember reading in a mod manual (IIRC RFB 1.52, but not sure) that SH4 has some things you have to remember when you want the game to recognize your kill. Amomgst others you have to be under a certain distance from the victim, if you are too far away the kill will not count, but the game thinks it was a death by "natural causes". :DL
I also realized that some kills so not appear on the map if you do not witness the kill by eyesight/periscope, no matter what mod you use. To make it worse: Sometimes it does.

IIRC Lurker, same as Ducimus, gave the planes the ability to spot you from above when in clear waters (Though 100 m depth is really too much). You can however theoretically tweak the sensor in Silent Editor and eliminate that.

Hitman must have something in mind with the sensors. Which files exactly need tweaking?
If you find destroyers and aircraft too effective, you could look at sim.cfg and air.cfg. If you don't know what to change you could even replace them with the UBM originals and tell us how it went.
It's true OM is quite hard. When you play dead is dead you will most likely not survive more than three patrols. Lurker made two optional versions of his mod with harder escorts but never made an option for easier escorts.

You can drag / drop most Silent Hunter file formats on it, and adjust stuff that cannot be adjusted with text files. For instance start with your submarine .dat and get access to your crush depth and other stuff.

Does anyone have experiences with OM and terminally broken savegames?
When I load (in port of course), the game will CTD every time. I even made some backups, but the same happens.
First everything looked all right because I can still reload the last savegame at sea (before I finished the patrol), resupply my boat, and go to the next mission. That went well until I found that I could reload none of the savegames made on this mission either.
There must be something in port that always irrevocably breaks the game, and reloadng a save is not possible from that point.
I think it does not have to with mod conflicts. I can load older savegames (in base of course), which I played with a much older collection of mods, but not these ones.

Hi there I made an (unofficial) Tweak for OM, it replaces the english text on the attack map dials with german text and also changes the Speed and Exploder Labels on the Karamazov panels to german.

I always save on the surface and when no other vessels are present.
OM has many many ship models added to game.
Each ship model type requires Environment Space to load said Models(System Memory).
Saving Game in area of large ship consentrations can cause CTD issue when trying to reload these save games.
As Wilcke has pointed out. It is best pratice to save game away from all other ship traffic to minimize memory requirement when loading save games.
Also, if running 32bit OS, it is good idea to enable 4gig Patch to SH4.exe and have 3gig+ of RAM installed on Computer.
If running 64bit OS and having this problem, you may need more RAM.
Because of SH5, I am upgrading my PC from 32bit Vesta OS i5 CPU with 4gig of RAM 500gig SCSI drive to 64bit Win7 i7 CPU with 16gig of RAM 500gig SCSI drive with 2 extra HotSwap drive bays for 2x120gig Solid State Drives (SSD's) just for games.
Currently my system is minimum req to run close to decent SH5 Campaign.:nope:

The ones that bork for me are the ones in base.

Thanks once again, finally have a pc that will run SHIV again and I loved my time with this mod back when I first tried it.
Now if I can just remember how to install everything lol.
edit, unfortunatly running into errors on trying to extract the main mod. Twice, perhaps someone can double check the mod on this site?

Sensordata difinition files are in Senzori_UBoot.sim. You just select the most proper one you guess and change the parent ID of that to KDB_type9 node ID by great S3D.
By changing existing SensorData Parent ID to KDB in Sensori_Uboot.sim you break another sensor some where in Sensori_Uboot.dat file.
Better to Add New SensorData control and assign it to the KDB Parent ID and adjust settings of the new SensorData control.

I've noticed that in crew management screen there is non-active "weapons and sensors" chart. Try to click on it, but with no effect - what's the problem? I can't use it and see how many shells I have in storage.
PS. Second question - is there anywhere list of all warships, freighters and planes included in OM? There is no entry to museum, but I'd like to know all units from OM.

Was getting bored with the pacific campaigns, thought I would take OM out for a test drive.
Got the mods all installed and here we go!
I'm in U-16 a Type ll B uboat (The Guppy lol) off the coast of England, it's foggy and raining, been chasing some contacts around, finally catch one! Thanks to Csengoi's EnemiesOfGermany mod i see it's a Panama registered ship, a neutral, but what the heck, just a test drive, just a game, Fire One!!! Good hit, not any damage I can see. Just then watch officer reports another contact. I close in, crap, a Norwegian ship, another neutral, then...see tanks on the deck! It's carrying war supplies, looks like m4 Sherman tanks. (not thinking about dates now) Fire One, Fire Two, go to external view for the eye candy. One hits and explodes, Two is a dud. I zoom into the ship, it's got tanks on the deck alright, each one has a little Japanese flag on it! :rotfl2:
I just wanted to say that Operation Monsun is the reason I own anything from the Silent Hunter series (III was too buggy on my system and V's internet connection was just ridiculous). Thank you, lurker, for the finest mod I've ever seen.

Thanks! Traded in the Type ll for a Type VllB (couldn't deal with no deck gun and small torp loadout) It's Oct/39 I'm on the way back to base from first patrol with 4 objectives complete. Have 24000t under my belt and 3 torps left, 77 rounds for deck gun. 31% fuel. Have had numerous dud torps. Have not attacked any neutral shipping.
Thought about taking a shortcut through the Channel. Checked with Kriegsmarine Intelligence (mission editor lol) looks like Winston may have left me a little surprise....gonna rethink my course.

Many bugs in Zones.cfg are fixed. Now, Flooding time of ships works correctly. Induced explosion of cargoes is simulated as well.
Unexpected CTDs or unnatural sinking, torpedo cruising sounds may be caused by bad links of ship config files. "Renewal_of_OM_ships" may avoid such problems.

"New Submarine School" MUST be activated after installation of EAX Sound Simulation and SonarTargetFix mods.
I do not test my mod with Uboat II or after IX. If you want to drive Uboat II or IX, just copy and replace two DLL files, Zones.cfg. EAX Sound Simulation and SonarTargetFix mods are recommended. But you will not be able to see and hear some special effects in that case. They need library and ship configuration files.
Saved files are not playable after activation of the mod. Do not forget keep backup files.

Which one do I use for OM?
Kameraden, what's your opinion about weather in OM? I'm on patrol now, it's end of September 1939, but during all my route from Kiel to southern coast of Ireland I have good weather, full sun, no percipitations, light wind (up to 5 m/s), light fog and light or no clouds. Is it normal? Using SH3/GWX I would have rain and strong wind for sure, it's autumn and should be worse weather, don't you think?

What time compression do you use, and how often do you drop out of it. It's been my experience in SH4 that the weather changes several times a day, but unless you randomly drop to 1x you can miss it.
Hmm, near coast I never go beyond 256x, going home (especially after successfull mision) up to 1024x, after every 3 hours 1x and look for ships or use hydrophone. Same values in SH3/GWX, but differences are very noticed.

I'm trying to fix the problem or at least figure out whats causing it.
I'm running a steam version of the game on w7 64bit, and it seems to be crashing randomly on the campaign.
And by randomly I really do mean it's completely random. I've tried to reproduce a ctd in repetition and it just seems to have no pattern. I have no crashes for vanilla sh4 nor the u-boat exp missions and I was running for hours on the "submarine school" trying to learn the aobf wheel.

You know I play OM with OMEGU enabled, and I notice that with all my mods I'll sometimes get glitches in the text and textures. I notice that it doesn't happen as often when I turn down gamma, and when it does happen I just ALT+Tab to minimize the game to desktop, then maximize the game and that seems to solve the issue. What I don't like about OM is that SH4 was hardcoded to be in English, so the immersion factor is junk compared to SH3 with GWX3 enabled. Hope this helps!

No question is a dumb question. That's what the forum is here for. Operation Monsun is a mod for SH4 patched to version 1.5 which is the U Boat missions add on. You must purchase this separately from Ubisoft and download it over vanilla version 1.4 In case you're wondering, here is a link with many great mods on it. CTD depends on the case. It's not easy to explain how to lower the frequency of CTD in several words. For example, Bad configurations of Zones.cfg file make some ships sunk and hydrophone freeze as well, although one change the un- (one thought so) related parameters in Zones.cfg. It's just like memory leaks in PC programming...
I appreciate you trying to help me fix the issues. I'm back to playing sh3 w/ GWX for the time being but, I'd be lying to say im not a little bit sad I can't fire up some OM.
I had finally got the whole attack wheel thing all sorted out and was going to start a brand new 1939 campaign going for the full realism. :wah:
With the random crashing it's pretty tough to really get into it and not worrying about stability or saving.
It's pretty strange considering it's such a newer platform, one would think it wouldn't have many problems.
Just wanted to say that Karamazov's KiUB targeting wheel works amazing;
does anybody knows the formulas involved to convert stadimeter degrees into range (meters)?
the reason I am asking is because I would like to build a table of ranges at different stadia degrees (if that is the right term) for the most common ship heights (which for merchants are are 27m, 29m ... I still need to find a good average for destroyers) to have it on hand for quick reference
Something like:
Stadia degrees / Range@27M / Range@29M
1 / 10,000 / 8,000
1.5 / 8,000 / 7,500
2.5 / 5,500 / 4,000
..
..
..
18 / 600 / 400
Two main reasons to doing so:
first, KiUB wheel cannot be used while at "paused". sometimes I am in a hurry and I simply don't have the time to get a clear range through the use of the wheel
second, I would like to guess ranges when at very long ranges; and only when close enough, ask the crew to identify the target

Yeah kstanb all those figures are pretty subjective for every boat because each one has its respective length and mast height. You'd have to make a pretty big table :cool:
As long as you select no more than 10 "typical" mast heights, the table will be manageable; and this is very easy in OM, because most of the "MMFM" ships have very standard heights; close to 27/ 30 meters
and for finding range, only mast height is important; length is not needed

No radar in 1941 and find it very difficult to set up a plot because my crew is blind.I can see ships off in the distance but they cant, really messed up a chance at an attack on a convoy at night since had no plot do to their lack of visual ability.

Hey Admiral, I just settled with turning on map contact updates and go from there. I see it as my Chief helping me with plotting the targets. Sometimes you gotta just use a little imagination with this game.

In GWX i used my watchman's range estimation and after taking 3-4 measurements,i could estimate the ship's course.So i could easily intercept it perpendicularly and make the shot.I use manual targeting only!

Well in SH4 I don't believe the watch crew can give you approximate distance estimate, just like in real life. You have to find a method of gathering a couple range/bearing readings to figure course and speed. Use whatever is available to you, or just turn on map contacts. The map tools do have a margin of error to them so you can't generate perfect firing solutions with them. If that was the case you might as well play with 0% realism. SH4 is a whole different animal than SH3. Welcome aboard and welcome to a new world of underwater combat!:salute:

Hallo und willkommen zu subsim! Since this is an English thread I will respond in English. Operation Monsun will assign you newer U-Boats as you progress through the campaign and earn more renown. Unlike SH3, you cannot "purchase" newer U-Boats with your renown, you can only be offered command of newer ones. This is something that is hard-coded into the SH4 game engine and cannot be changed (along with English-speaking U-boat crewman, there is nothing you can do to change that to German, as it is also hard-coded). If you have any other questions, feel free to ask on this thread or post a new thread under the Silent Hunter 4 Threads.

Ok, sunk 650 000BRT so far and renown is about 90000, realism is 59 - and this is seemingly not enough? Is it just a feeling I have to stick with type IX until 1945 :) or is there any way to find out how much renown I need or what are the timepoints to get an "offer" for a new boat?
Btw, these modding things are great! Hats off to the guys making this happen.

650,000 BRT!? :o I think that's amazing even at 59% realism! 90,000 renown points are way more than enough for just about anything in the SH4 world, except for subs. You should be offered command of a new sub as soon as one is available according to historical timelines, especially for that kind of renown. I would imagine you've been promoted quite a few times by now.

My actual rank is Korvettenkapitän. It's June 1941 and enemy air activity is quite hot. Having a type IXB/C would be very nice because of increased Flak. Hope that will be possible some day:)

I have an other Problem
Many of the Ships are to tough or the Torps to weak
Today i had 10000t Tankers that catches 3 Torps and did not sink.
Only a few Degrees side slope an cruising away.
A Tanker is no Battleship or Carrier that takes 4 or more Torps !!
Than some 5000t Merchants take 2 Torps an sailng away..
Thats not good

I play with 100% realism, but it's very tough especially when using something like TMO 2.5 when the escorts are deadly, and the ships never travel on predictable course for very long. I'm still wondering what's most realistic, TMO 2.5 or RFB 2.0
