I'm trying to learn the basics of modding Sh4 because like many others I want to add a playable pocket battleship and I want to try to do it myself. I've downloaded S3d and have 3dstudio Max and the required plugins. I've searched the forums for tutorials that walk through the basics of adding a new playable unit but I haven't found any.

If I've missed them,, could you point me to an existing tutorial that covers adding new playable units? If there isn't one - are there any docs that might be an approrpriate place to start?

Dont have the folder "UPCDataGE" Im using V1.4 if that is what the difference might be.

No matter, u can do this with 1.4 too, but u have to use UPCData (same configuration), and
for the [NEWSUB].upcge file u have to use the file extension .upc

I did that as that is what i was figureing. I have used his method yet. Still working on mine :rotfl: FIgured I'd use Mikhayl as a last shot deal.

So far I got it to where it now crashes at the end of loading up for quick missions and it is selectable in carerr and I can get crew and load the sub up but when i go to start and it starts loading up it crashes again. But it is fine with all other subs so I know its the files for the sub and not the game. :up:

Keltos created a Mk. 28 mod, but it takes the place of the Mk. 27 slot. I figured that this info might help him create a new slot, instead of taking up an existing one.

Can you detail what it does ? CTD ?
When you launch the game with the new sub enabled, does it show in the menu in quick missions ?

It doesnt load in the menu of either the quick mission or career mode. that is the crash that happened

might have to add a U.S heavy cruiser or light i dunno, won't have and historical accuracy, but it would give the 1.4 guys somthing to play with and a counter to the pocket battleship.

Hum I have no idea, the problem is that I bought SH4 with U-boot mission directly, maybe that kind of modification isn't possible in 1.4.
Could you upload your duplicate mod folder if you still have it ? I'll take a look and try to find out if it's due to a different file structure or what :hmm:

Thats what Im betting it is its the different file structures inbetween v1.4 and v1.5. I already deleted it all and reinstalled SH4.

Perhaps I have not said clearly, because my English is poor.

I mean that there is AA gun and and deck gun on the submarine, and can attack targets too.But nobody is at the emplacement .

Is it this file? =========SH4/Data/Library/Characters/MARINE.dat

I don't know where the crewmen models are located, but it doesn't affect the crew manning the guns.
I finally remember why the crewmen don't show on the guns in Tomi's VIIC, and probably on most SH3 .dat imported directly in SH4.

SH3 "uboat.dat" can work fine in SH4 but the SH3 "turm.dat" shouldn't be used IMO, because I think it's the cause of the "transparent conning tower underwater" bug :hmm:

Sorry I don't get it.... So I should put the Test Mission > SM13 Testmis into the Mod Folder and What about the NewSub folder ...:oops: I don't see any Test Mission in the Quick mission....should I ?
...Anyhow What should I do to see if my modding is correctly done ....

PS : I have DL a Russian Quick mission with 2 russian subs to choose the NewSub appears in the choice but if chosen , direct CTD

I 've got GenericModEnabler and I have put my NewSub folder inside the Mod folder + Test Mission ; I have enable them both .... (C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific\MODS)

By the way the mistake I think about is regarding the use of the S3ditor
Following the Tuto
There are 6 files to be edited dat *.sim *.cam *.val *.zon *.dsd in the Submarine folder and also 5 files (...) in the object folderif I Remap one ....I have to use the same "code" with the 5 others (for the submarine folder) and also the same operation , but with a different code (at start) with the 5 files in the Object folder
each time I click OK (no random choose) , SAVE ; Close ...
(note that the code is automaticaly written in the other files case)

if this is Correct ; than I really don't guess what I did wrong ; I'll try again tomorrow (I did it twice today:doh:)

The TutoTypeII you gave the adress in the very first post is working fine :p; but my New Sub :down:....I was wondering about a file you put inside your archive that I don't have inside mine in Data/Roster you have a Name.cfg (beside the American folder) . Do have I to put it in my folder also....

ps :SYMPTOMS
I have rechecked my files and one folder was out of place , ....so I though that's it and I tried it again and it almost download the game ; but at almost the end I had CTD .... Does that mean something that could lead me to a clue ? (before I had CTD as soon as downloading the Quick mission selection NewSub)

I've got the answer of my failiure ( I think) . It's because of the silent3ditor remaping

- When I remap one of the 6 files (OK->save->close) and do the same to a following
the N° in the Remap case is the same as the one I firstly choose, But when I click OK for the remaping the parent id is totaly different than the one I have saved .....so all my file have parents id different:damn: ...No matter what I do I can't have the parent id fitting as you show in the very first page of the Tuto.

Is there some setting to apply in the silent3ditor ? I have the beta0.8

I have enable the XXI mod (it's a Russian mod I took on a russian site ) so I I could play Quick mission else than with the American ; than I have enable the Newsub and did as you said = Remap freshly the files from the object and submarin folder
that's really weird isn't it ....it surely is a Russian Sub , not a German

One more question : If I create a 3dmodel with 3dsmax or else and export it under .Obj
Would It be able to load it with Silent3ditor and remap it and save it as a .Dat file to put into the game ?

couldn't you write down what you know, how you do it, we'll start from there.

The part I don't get is how to export the uv maps from 3dstudio.. I have a new tower, textured and all, but can't seem to get it right in an obj file and uv maps... could you take a look and maybe tell me what to do step by step in simple english ??;)

2 : let's say I make a cloned Jyunsen B type submarine out of a typ18, if I wanna make more sub clones : typix -> Type J1 sub, typ II -> small IJN sub, won't they conflict with one another if all are implemented ?

that'll need 6 modifers :
ballast, hull, cables, screws, ramp, deck each with a uv map to get a good result.

But the reason for the post:

Ok, first of all we create a new mod folder on the desktop, say "Newsub", with a "data" folder inside.

Now, let's say that we want a duplicate of the Type IX, here is the list of files and folder that we need to copy from the game to our "Newsub/Data/" folder :

- From "SH4\Data\Submarine\", copy the whole "NSS_Uboat9d2" folder.

Ok, you say to copy the NSS_Uboat9d2 to the data folder. Then later in the tut:

Open S3D, then go to "Newsub/data/submarine/NSS_uboat9d2" and open the 6 files present in there.

So am I assuming correctly that the Nss_uboat9d2 should go into a 'Submarine' folder just like it is in the game? Even though you didn't specifically say to create one. I am assuming that in order for Mod Enabler to work it would have to right?

I copy American Montana BB to the German side. But I have lost radar and sonar. They present in the ship, but in switch off condition and not switch on. In what there can be an error? How correctly to add equipment on ship? Simple copying equipment to sub.upcge file does not give results.

those are in the text files, namely the upc file and stuff, but Peabody better answer you that one cause I'm only the 3d guy ;)

To make the American ship from American it is simple. Problems arise at cloning American in German side. A radars, sonars has other names, and the simple cloning does them not by workers.

I MUST LEARN HOW USE SILENT 3DITOR, BLENDER3D, ETC
I NEED TO KNOW, WHAT FILE I MUST MODIFY FOR TRANSFORM THE IXD TYPE OF VANILLA GAME, INTO ANOTHER SUB?
