I was trying to solve a graphics problem in sh4 1.5 using a .dll dependancy checker to solve what I thought was a .dll version issue... SH4 has a HUGE number of .dll dependancies... and THIS popped up...

SecuROM™ has determined that a debugging tool is running in the background. Please close this program before you start the application.

If the application won't start although you have already closed/deactivated all debugging tools, please send a SecuROM™ analysis file to support@securom.com (see Support Info (http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=analysis&l=en) section on how to prepare and send an analysis file).

Quoted from this thread: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=132167&highlight=sony

The add-on uses one part of SecuRom.
SecuRom has one component for online activation.
The add-on makes use of this component and only for the download version (which seems to be the only version of the add-on that is being sold at the moment).
When activating, SecuRom accesses a server to check if the activation is correct.
After the activation, the SecuRom module will not access any server, ever.
SecuRom has one component for disk checking when starting the game. The add-on doesn't use this component. So much for "we just used a part of SecuROM to validate your installation"... If that is true, and the SecuROM code integrated into sh4 is non-intrusive, why did this happen?

It also explains why, in part, the sh4.exe file went from 1.95G to 6.64G in size. A large portion of the new code is for SecuROM...

Everyone around here who is in charge thinks this is no big deal. I'm starting to feel like Ducimus.:arrgh!: At what point did we stop being valued customers and become punching bags for Sony. @#$@!#$% now you've done it. I'll have to sink something before I feel human again. See the Sony thread in the U-Boat Missions add-on forum.

In the meantime, enjoy totalitarianism. Obey!!!!!!!!:rotfl:You are a worm and a potential criminal.:rotfl:But you are safely in prison so you should be grateful.

Have no fear. These things can be circumvented.

I suggest you start your program AFTER you start SH4. You'll find that it runs just fine and does its job without hindrance by a paper tiger named SecuROM, which won't even know your program is there. Ubi bought a bucket of fake promises and lies from Sony. SH4UBM was distributed for free without SecuROM included before the night of release was over. When will game companies ever learn that their best defense is happy loyal paying customers?

I'm going to go sink a T3 Tanker so I can feel better.

RR, hey, I know what you mean. I did follow the Sony thread so you can imagine how surprised I was when this occurred... Sorry to get your ire up... but you're right.

I have no intention of reverse engineering sh4, I just wanted to fix a problem...

Hope you got your tanker...;)
