I also liked that violin piece from "Last of the Mohicans" that you used at the beginning. I first heard it used in a Battle of Britain mod for IL-2, and I always wondered where it was from.

Thanks for the mod! i loaded teh scapa flow mission and was half-submerged...i could still go to ahead flank while submerged! i ordered blow ballast and the sub went to surface...

@Jim : it will have to wait for GWX 2.1 to be quite "full" so you guys better press the attack :stare: :lol:
Anyway if it's ready before 2.1 I will upload an "intermediate" version so that everyone can finally enjoy all the new visual stuff.
By the way, last time I played I got really annoyed by the pesky aircrafts and I'm thinking of removing them. That sounds a bit extreme I know, but that would allow you to concentrate on the real thing : hunting/escaping ships.
I think I could keep the level bombers and just delete the fighters and light bombers.
What do you guys think ? Since now, with the increased roll&pitch, hitting an aircraft with a single round is quite a miracle, it would be nice to sent down a fighter plane with a single,well placed round. The GWX 2.0 damage model makes things too hot for poor schnellbootmen. The elimination of the aircraft would make the game a bit boring:roll: . In my opinion, changing destroyer AI would be more significant. In my view obviously

Looks great... but what happened to Latemail's new GUI?
I kinda changed my mind :oops: Actually at first I wanted the torpedo controls on the general layout because the UZO view was too small and I fired my torps from the deck view. But now with OLC's new version it's way easier to steer the boat from the large UZO view when attacking so the torp controls became redundant.
For the panel position, I liked the previous one but when switching to the navmap or damage screen it got too much in the way.
Anyway even if the 2 GUI seem to have nothing common, Latemail's work helped me a lot to understand how things work in menu.ini and how to add/keep some features, all that a lot faster than before (I made a first attempt 2 weeks ago, it took me 3 days to have a crappy gui that didn't work right...).

I really agree with you... the gui of OLC has all we need, to steer the boat and fire torpedos in one time - and it's not necessary to change stations. But I think the chronometer of the U-Jagd tool is not needed for an attack with the s-boat ? We don't have the full tool, because we don't need the Attack Periscope. Maybe the stock notepad will be enough - there we're having all datas we're needing to attack a ship: Type of Ship and distance! The normal Stop-Watch in combination with the notepad will be enough ! The rest of the OLC Gui is great! What do you think Mikhayl ?
Edit: @Mikhayl: If there is still help needed to bring the great S-Boat Mod forward - Maybe you need help to modify the messages in campaign data, the menu.cfg etc. and change them for S-Boat Commanding?

@Lord : I won't modify the GUI any further, main reason is that I don't play much SH3 these days and I suddenly feel lazy when I think about changing things :lol: Besides I don't need the stopwatch nor the notepad, when I attack I just repeatedly ask the WO for the distance until I fire.
Also thanks for the offering, I included a list of the part that need to be translated to german in the new release for anyone who wants to give it a go. However it's still far from definitive so it may not be worth spending time on it.

- Does the smoke generator (fog cans) working yet in V.0.9? In a further post you said, that the "deploy decoy" Button ("J") now is ready to switch on the smoke generator ? I gave a Bold to my S-Boat before leaving harbor. But "J" doesn't work. :huh:
I keep an eye on the translation list for the german datas! Hopefully you'll have email soon as possible.

I disabled the smoke gen because the result wasn't good enough and caused a major FPS hit especially when using OLCE. I will see to put it back in the next release but no guarantee on that. And now that you point this out, I forgot to make it unavailable in the upgrades, scheisse :-?
I hope that's the only thing I overlooked :lol:

I'm affraid it won't work, I binded the command on the C key I think (don't remember) and it's still active. I deleted the "physical" launcher/generator, I just forgot to delete the menu line in the upgrade screen :-?

Loving the new version... I finally got my first destroyer kill on my first patrol with 0.9 :rock:
Was late at night, no moon, barely spotted the destroyer and charged in at flank. At about 1500m, launched both torpedos in a salvo. The first torpedo passed harmlessly behind the destroyer, but the second detonated directly underneath their screws :D
Needless to say, after the torpedo blew away the aft of their ship, they were angry...VERY angry. Got their spotlights on me and started firing with their dual cannon turrets, their first barrage hit the aft section of my boat, before I was able to take evasive action. Then I fully realized how bad the situation was... I spotted another destroyer that was following behind the one I torpedo'ed. That one started firing too, and with its third volley it hit the crew quarters. After that volley the spotlight finally lost it's fix on me...might have had something to do with the aft of their ship starting to disappear under the water!! :hmm:
Still wasn't out of the woods yet though, I was low on fuel and had flooding that I knew I wouldn't be able to stop. I kept the engine at flank as long as I could, trying to get my battered S-100 back to Cherbourg before the flooding overwhelmed the crew compartment. About 40km from port I reduced throttle to 1/3 and literally entered Cherbourg just as my chief let me know that we were out of fuel. :arrgh!:
Only a 3800t patrol, but man was that fun...wish I was capturing video :rotfl:

Graphics are beautiful ,, very smooth and runs very very well.
two small notes,
crew skill level bar does not show up in f-7 positions. so you never know quite how good they really are, I can live with that,
when in this mode (f-7) went to silent running (z) two out of 4 trys the program crashed, only once in 4 trys on main screen did it crash on this command. not sure why, so FYI,
still testing other parts ,
seems to want to crash on death screen too,
overall, a beauty of a project. learning a lot by looking at your files.

Only one S-Boat has survived... The Mod is working well... the possible Bug with the spare Torpedos on deck - I've sent you an email for that, with screen!
The new sounds are phantastic... wow - still yet I'm hearing the belling sound of my flak guns...:rock:

encountered an anson aircraft on my first patrol,but for some odd reason;only the middle flackgun fired on him(all flackguns were manned BTW).And i'm running GWX 2.0 with the 16 km. atmosphere enabled.Any thoughts?:-?
no, thats a stock bug. You can fix it by going to each AA position in turn and then returing to the bridge. One at a time.

If so:down: , I think this is not really a good idea, because "our" S-Boat does not have any armor. Every machine gun (not heavy guns!) makes swiss cheese out of our proud vessel.:yep:
Until the armor level is much increased, it is suicide to increase the repair times.
This words a results of heavy and bloody lessons:damn: , i have learned during my last journeys.

I think reloading should be done far way from any threats.
Also I have read that Schnellboote often only carried 2 torpedoes on mission, because the spare torpedoes on deck apparently messed up the boats performance too much.
So you may have to make the most of two eels ;)
And thanks to Mikhayl for this mod. I am having a great time with this and I think it has great potential :up:

@Intruder : if you didn't notice that the repair times are longer until now then I guess it's not that bad eh ? :) (they were the same in beta 0.2)
I was not sure about that. I blamed it on my untrained crew. I point it out again. Please increase armorlevel. On every return, if i return, my S-Boar is a wreck :-? only from turret-fire of aircrafts, and i am not talking about Hurricanes or Mosquitos etc.

Mikhayl, I'll give this a try with the new damage model once I've finished my current u-boat patrol provided I can figure out the steps I need to remove some mods to add the S-boot.
You have done a fantastic job on this mod, Mikhayl! People like you, OLC, Thomsen, and AvH are continuing to impress and amaze me. Maybe the day will come when you have time to document your work for others to learn how to do such things.
Maybe the troubles people are having with the current damage model have more to do with their expecting a fast, light attack craft to be more durable than a u-boat.
These things were little more than PT boats, AFAIK. Armor was either negligible or not even fitted. These boats relied on speed and their small size to avoid enemy attacks. It may have had armor to offer some protection against light armaments, like machine guns, but there is no way it could survive for long against anything as heavy as a deck gun.
It's supposed to be a sim, not an arcade shooter, folks! :roll:
One of these days I need to make a seperate install for just playing the S-boot but my hard drive is a mess.
I'm missing out on too much fun!

Tried the new .9 beta. Excellent. Love the opening torpedo tube doors. Spend some time on my first mission just opening and shutting them.
The boat looks better as well, especially now the railings go all the way and the ensign position seems more natural.
Damage model; Even running from all the DDs, I still get knocked about by aircraft so I'll download and try your new damage model.
Very impressive mod. I have it running in NYGM as it seems to force IIA boats in ALL flotillas and this leaves GW2 as original.

I just had a sudden thought...
Since there was only about six IIA u-boats that served as frontboots, making it very unlikely a kaleun would even command one of these, why not add the S-boot as a standard optional mod in GWX?
It might be that the changes you made would require too much overhaul to make it 100% compatible with the GWX damage modeling and effects, Mikhayl, but it sure would be an eye-popping adddition!

"SH3 Modding and Particle Effects for Dummies" would be a most welcome addition to my library! It would probably wind up as worn and dog-eared from use as my old "MS-DOS 6.22 Reference Manual"! :yep:
I understand your concerns about incorporating S-boot into GWX as a standard option. I just wish it were practical because S-boot is as dazzling and revolutionary as GWX, in its own way. Ah well, dare to dream. :roll:
With some of the mods I have installed, including OLC Environment merged with GWX Enhanced Damage Effects, it would be more practical to have S-Boot with a seperate, clean GWX installation. Having to enable/disable so many mods every time I played as a u-boat kaleun or s-boot kommandant would inevitably lead to screw-ups. I'm just not a multi-tasker. :lol:
The damage model is obviously still a WIP, but not for the reasons cited by some S-Boot players.
The construction of the S-Boot ought to be a big clue to anyone that these things aren't Panzers with boat motors.
Plywood is not a good material for stopping bullets and shells! :eek:
You've already established yourself as the father of surface warfare in SH3, Mikhayl. I can hardly wait to see what you'll add to the fleet next! :D
This mod is really fun to play.
But I think it would be good to change one little thing:
When using the CE-maneuvers like 'Turn 90° to starboard', this will play the diving sound and make the whole crew disappear off the the bridge, because they are scripted to are performed only submerged.
It also prevents you from entering the bridge afterwards.
So everything is as if you were diving, but in fact you aren't.
But you also cannot reverse this because the funtions like when pressing [s] and [b] are disabled too.
So in the end, using the predefined maneuvers from your CE will mess up the whole cruise/mission/patrol with the Schnellboot.
I haven't tested it very carefully though, and also didn't read anything about it yet. So just ignore this post if I missed anything.

For someone who works by trial-and-error you've certainly managed to mistake you way into some very excellent results!
As for myself, I'd dearly love to make a playable VIID minelayer with the launch tubes mounted behind the conning tower that actually work!
But... I just draw u-boat emblems and have no idea where to begin such an ambitious mod since written material to learn from is so rare. *sigh*:roll:

Hello Mate,For all I know, the s-boote were more advanced technically than their US/UK counterparts and bigger, but they were just as vulnerable. The things are mostly made of wood. The armored parts would do their job against small calibre guns like 7,92, but I'm pretty sure that a 12.7 round hitting with a 90° angle would go through. In any case they're not made to resist naval shells, and moreover you're not supposed to be hit.

I managed to confuse the system enough to get Cherbourg as my base -don't ask how - for a while I thought I'd misnamed Brest by mistake!), ran the last 4 of my 13 patrols out of there. Felt funny sitting just off the coast at the start of each patrol. I was going to ask if anyone could tell me how to put a harbour there but just got killed instead.
All the other patrols, I just went out and prowled. Unfortunately most patrols started in the morning so once I was in the channel, I hung back until dark then hunted. Averaged one ship per patrol, each patrol only lasted about 16 hours, except when I was working out of Brest and prowling Tanker Alley. With the distances out of Brest, I ran with unlimited fuel. Once I got into the Channel, I could use the proper fuel ranges.
Big problem is them there hurricane fighter/bombers, breed like flies, swatted a total of 12 before they got me.
On the last patrol, I realised I'd been allocated a patrol area BF31, right across the channel from Cherbourg! Decided to patrol it properly. Bad decision. Got on station at dusk, by dawn the Hurricanes had spotted me, attack after attack, finally ran out of ammunition, Ran flat out for home, dodging and weaving but got a direct hit about 50k from base.
Still - 13 patrols, 13 ships/60k tonnage and 12 planes - not bad for one little S-Boot!
Not yet tried the new damage model neither!
The channel area north of Cherbourg is hot work. Anything up to 5 DDs and even more aircraft. But fun, in a 'oh dear!' kind of way. Should be incredible If all these harbours are done.
One perculiar thing, After switching to the 0.9 beta. I couldn't go to the Bridge properly. F4 sent me there but the cursor controls operated similar to F12. I seemed to have free movement, but once I moved from the bridge out away from the boat, it seems to lock the boat in the middle ofAfter several re the frame and all I could do was make it bigger or smaller. Very weird. This happened for the last 3 or 4 patrols, each started as a fresh load.
Made it very difficult to try to fight aircraft as I could never see them. In the end I had to use F12 and pan right back.
Any ideas?

Cherbourg explained! I had started 1st Flotilla in 1940.
missing harbour - I just wanted to add it - NYGM has much less harbours than GWX. I didn't want to use a copy of GW2 with S-Boot. On my machine GW2/GWX takes ages to load, Stock or NYGM only takes a few minutes and NYGM has NEARLY as much extras as GWX.
Free Cam on the Bridge - at least that explains it. My problem was that I usually work from the bridge if aircraft or ships involved. With the free cam, it's difficult to look up and around while tracking aircraft. you just end up being moved.

Yeah actually I chose to get rid of the attack map icon and shortcuts because I really fail to see the use of said attack map in a boat running at 42 knots in attack situation :)

I bought the addon immediately after its release..at the beginning I was a bit disappointed by the incredible (and unrealistic:-? ) amount of enemy traffic...( i suggest using RSRDC mod ), but the new models are excellents and the gameplay is wonderful:up: .
Maybe the officer problem could be solved turning the 4 officers into something like Chief Pettyofficers, with tthe same parameters, and then, let the other things as they are now. Maybe Venatore might help you modifying the appearance of the modified officers.

One of these s-boats was commanded by a pettyofficer because the commander was indisposed cause illness. But these boats were of S-36 class,so little smaller than the S-100s ones.
My book states that on a mediterranean S-36 there were:

6 petty officer

Well actually what I was thinking that there might be a way to make the gunners think that certain ships(ex. the elco and the mtb)are aircraft and treat them as such(by shooting 'em fulla holes:cool:).BTW thanks for the reply.

It is really simple: Just D O N`T :nope: start a singe Mission under water. Just play missions who start on surface.:yep:

Anyway be aware that starting this kind of mission where the boat is supposed to be submerged on startup can cause a CTD. A good workaround would be to open the mission with the editor and set your starting depth to 0.
I loaded 3 missions where boat is under water without any CTD.

Hi mate, that's weird, you're sure you didn't mix some files ? In theory the boat has no longer any means of submerging : no dive planes, and the ballast can not flood at all.
Well actually I just and there was some remnants of dive planes in the last version but it shouldn't have any effect :hmm: How is it going by the way ? :D

Mikhayl, am I correct in my understanding, based on comments you've made in other threads, that you have ceased modding for SH3 since your recent acquisition of SH4+U-boat Missions?

You still have to finish the S-boot for SH3! :stare:
There are some of us who do not intend to purchase SH4 for a variety of reasons, old hardware and tight budgets among them.
It's your choice, of course, but it would be deeply appreciated by many of the S-boot fans here.
I suppose I'll be the last one to still be playing SH3 in another year or so. :roll:

what a great mod. had alot of fun with it tonight. making an attack run on an enemy ship is quite a rush!
quick question. I used the GWX enhanced dmg effects. I read the readme file but am still a little confused. I had the original dmg effects mod loaded. when i loaded the main S-boat mod it had an error. So i took off the GWX dmg effects mod and just installed the main mod again and it ran great. So if I want the dmg effects i install in this order?
1)Main S-boat mod
2)GWX Dmg effects mod
3)S-boat smg effects mod
Just want to make sure i am doing it right because it gives an error message.

I have not had such a giggle in ages! I think I really can see myself running your S-Boat mod along side GWX quite proudly!
I do have one question though, what is the S-Boat's most fuel efficient speed?
I'm guessing flank is not it. lol

As far as I know it's about 20-24 knots. Not been able to prove this as I have been using 'unlimited fuel' as I work out of Wiliamshaven and I need every drop of fuel to get to the English coast.
:arrgh!: roll on the extra flotilla / base mods now that GWX 2.1 is out.
p.s. I run S-Boote using NYGM - works fine but it's a little short on harbours!

Yeah, as the grid is actually irrelevent it prolly doesn't matter. Personally, I'd go for some text as you have 8 characters to play with and it may just be a bit better than simply 0. For starters, as you know the regions, you could go with stuff like "CHANNEL", "N.SEA" etc.

Just tried the latest version for the first time (I'm having a play with BBW's career addition).
Wow! It is so much more advanced than when I last played it (v0.2 or something). Absolutely brilliant. :up: :rock:
BTW, works well with SH3Cmdr R3.0/1. Only a few setting changes recommended:
- turn OFF simulate a realistic career length (could be a very short career otherwise, as it's possible to do six patrols in a month or two)
- turn OFF historic U-boat availability (well, atm there is only one boat type, LOL)
- turn ON set days in base and set to 5 or so (not necessary, but I doubt S-boats were docked for the same period of time as U-boats were, players can also modify SH3 options.cfg if they still want some form of randomisation)
- turn OFF model effects (this makes no difference, but just for certainty, at least until someone adds S-boat specific malfunctions)
- turn OFF randomise crush depth (for compatibility)
The rest should be safe to set at whatever the player wants.
Other considerations:
- must be using SH3Cmdr R3.0 or greater
- Menu variable_**.txt will need changing, likewise SH3Cmdr_**.txt (these files just need text changes, not much work at all)
- Might want to replace the U-boat Badge image in the SH3Cmdr Personnel Files folder with the S-boat Badge. This will ensure that Personnel Files show the correct badge image. The SH3Cmdr Crew Manager interface will still show the U-boat Badge and will still follow its award conditions, but that will not be a problem after SH3Cmdr_**.txt is updated (suggestion #1 and #7). Likewise the U-Boat Front Clasp with the Naval Combat Clasp (which should very rarely, if ever, be awarded considering the conditions). I guess I could fix the conditions aspect by moving the hardcoded dates to a data file that was user editable.

Sorry but it's not JSGME ready so should really be packed with the mod rather than as a standalone DL unless you are experienced with where these files go.
BTW if anyone has some better shots of the individual boat emblems from the 3rd Flotilla I'll have a crack at cleaning them up as well.

So does anyone know what the average patrol length was in one of these things? I started a new career today and am averaging around 2-3 days, which I think is too long, but I'll be darned if I'm gonna do a patrol every day, LOL.

I can see some long periods spent in base on R&R, LOL.
Fortunately though, a patrol only takes 30 or so mins, so it's a nice quick way to have some fun. Also, with patrols being so short you don't need to exit SH3 after every one, even when using SH3Cmdr, so you can go out again straight away.
Though it might be a different story when I'm moved to France where the action is... :hmm:

One thing though... I noted when starting a new career through commander, it wouldn't let you start in August.

Did you follow instructions as per my release thread
- turn OFF simulate a realistic career length
- turn OFF historic U-boat availability
- turn ON set days in base and set to 5 <or some other small number>
- turn OFF model effects
- turn OFF randomise crush depth
- don't use SH3Cmdr's realistic crew option when starting new careers
Also make sure you have version 5
And August starts are out
What are you gonna do for a month in an S boot

All 8 patrols listed were started via SH3Cmdr.
Assuming that you made a dedicated copy of SH3Cmdr for your S-boot install, did you repoint it to your S-boot SH3 install?

Both are already features of SH3Cmdr; have been since R2.0 (Sep 2005).
SH3 Commander works for my S-Boot career. What a great mod for some quick, fun action!
Have you guys tried with realistic vulnerability? Does it make much of a difference with the S-Boot??
Also anyone here try the Med yet? Might head there next. So far the channel has been ALOT of fun.:rock:

Oh, another thing, despite being awarded a Naval Combat Clasp (titled S-Boat Front Clasp in game), it doesn't appear in my medal box. Is this a known problem?

Can it be removed altogether? As you posted and as I posted in #1163, it was rarely awarded and even then not until 1944. I know setting "SunkInPatrol" to some rediculously high value will remove it from the crew, but I can't remember what to change to remove it from the player. I *think* IIRC (it's been a while), it's one of the MedalsSettings* entries. :hmm:

I suppose it could be rendered impossible to earn, in basic.cfg the clasp is the "MedalSettings1" if I remember right. Setting it to 1 as the german cross would make it more difficult to win, but I don't know if values higher than 1 would have any effect ? I still don't know how these "medalsettings" are calculated, I don't know why they didn't make it like the other medals with a tonnage score :hmm:
I might have to start a new career with it set to 100 or something. Might even bump up the German Cross because I have it but no Iron Crosses (because of my measly 1,500 tonnage).
My SH3 is acting strangly.
This is not a bug with SBoat mod, because I dont have it installed atm.
So why am I posting here?
Well, the bug means I can not acsess the interior of my VIIC U-boat, when I try to, it
just puts the camera a few feet above the conning tower out side the boat. Perhaps
this would be useful for the SBoat mod.
Unfortuantly, I do not know what causes this bug, so perhaps it can't help.
is everyone having a special install of SH3 with this mod? I have one install of SH3 with GWX and am just using JSGME to switch back and forth between s-boot and u-boats. I am using the same SH3 Commander as well. So far no problems at all.:hmm:
I have four installs of SH3 at present each with it's own SH3CMDR.
These are : vanilla (my grand daughter uses this, also with S-Boote,
NYGM which I use with S-Boote
GWX keep around - used to use for Uber-Boot mod.
GW2.1 use as standard game.
I use NYGM for S-Boote as it loads very quickly on my machine which is minimum specs for SH3.
GWX 2.1 doesn't get used very often as it takes foooooor eeeever to load.
When I drop GWX, I might set up another GW2.1 dedicated to S-Boote when all the changes for flotillas etc are released.
The only problem I have with S-Boote is not able to load emblems (now solved - see JScones comment and Smoke generators - I can't get them to smoke! using key J (as per decoys).
anyone getting some strange aircraft behavior? I was jumped by 6 Hurricanes and they buzzed me for hours but never attacked. I ended up shooting them all down. It was odd as they would just fly over then maybe do a few attack runs but not release any bombs. :hmm:

Kept telling me 'not enough crew for flak guns!' at first I could only operate the 3.7 (my favourite anyway) but later in the patrol, I ordered guns crew and it only allowed me to operate the two 20mm!. Not nice especially as I was tangling with another C2 and I'd missed it with my last torpedo - too cocky! :down:
Any idea about the flak crew? I'd filled all four places, admittedly with raw crew (1st patrol). But that's never been a problem before :-?:cry:

I say - give it a go. I use NYGM mod again becuase I'm running an old machine and GWX 2.1 really makes it graft.
Only thing to remember - don't try to run S-Boote mod and expect to use the sam SHIII installation for normal gaming. Best pan is to have an extra copy of SHIII (with whatever flavour of MOD you use solely for S-Boote. Otherwise you get odd funnies because of changes having been made by the mod.
The mod itself is great fun - so I'd say - go for it. The worst that can happen is it won't work, and if your using an extra installation all you need to do is delete it.
has anyone noticed any problems caused by the S-boot mod the the main (uboat) game?
I have been using JSGME to install and uninstall the mod several times and I have not noticed any problems when I go back to my subs. Just want to check to see what these problems are just in case. :hmm:

sorry, my mistake. I was refering to running a u-boat career WITHOUT uninstalling the S-Boote mod.
Apart from that, as Mikhay says, it's easier to have two installations and then you can 'tune' your mod selections to either S-Boote or U-Boat.

Yes, I've had that problem, but the difficulty I was having with 'not enough crew for flak guns!' was that I had got 4 crew members manning them. At first they were sailors - non-qualified but later I had a qualified flak gunner. The only thing I could thionk of was that unqualified crew didn't provide enough manning (i.e the old green strip - which doesn't show in the mod). I also found that by moving my qualified man into a differant slot meant I could man the 37mm and not the 20mms guns and vice versa. Most odd.

The most surprising thing is that my boat was perfectly OK...no one shell hit me:o !

Just wanted to say that I tried 0,9 version last night, didn't get 1.0 yet, IT'S ON MY DL LIST ASAP!! ok im new at this, but i installed everything, when i start sh3 with the mod, the load screen displays schnellboote, the progress bar moves all the the way to the right but the game doesnt go on to the next screen, and the game freezes up? does anyone know any possible explanation for this behavior? thank you very much

anyone else find when they start in the 6th Flotilla in March 41 that the boat is sideways in the berth and there is a ship climbing out of the water? hehe. i have noticed this with a few of the ports now. The only ones where this doesnt happen is Cherbourg and Caligari so far. I will check the others as well. hehe.:o

run the .exe file in the Holland folder. It will ask you to point it towards the SH3/Data/Terrain folder. The file you need to find is listed in the readme file. When you get to the folder hit ok and it will install everything.

However, it seems that I always crash to desktop whenever I load the game
System: Windows Vista with hardware strong enough to play vanilla SH3 (I tried a single mission and it loads fine, and everythings works well)
Yet, when I tried loading the modded SH3, it crashes to desktop when the loading bar is about 9/10 full (it is from the campaign interface, ie the one which you get a briefing about the mission to the mission itself). Any idea? Thanks
p.s. this is the way how I install the files. Maybe I got something wrong which screwed up the important files and triggered the crash
(1) Use the repack program to install the Holland files
(2) Use JSGME program to install the mod followed by North Sea addon
p.s.s. I've disabled UAC (user account control) before any installation

Some times ago I discussed the possibility of having another S-boot model, like the S-14/S-25 class.

Mike at the moment is very busy, also on the SH4 side , with the panzerschiff mod...so I was thinking if someone other might be able to realize that.
Note: Mikhail explained me that the upgrade option cannot work, so it have to be installed as substitute boat-via JSME

Iīm totally thrilled about your s-boot mod, fascinating whatīs possible with sh iii.
Maybe somebody can add one of these points.....(or complete)
a) I guess fuel consumption is too high @ low speeds and too low at speed above 15 knots.
b) boat acceleration is too good, the boat speeds up to 35 knots in no time, s-100 class is about 100tons, so thatīs a point.
c) Due to the fact that only one or two engines (not sure, guess only one) were in use at cruising speeds it would be perfect turning only one prop @ low speeds and the three are only in use @ speeds over 25-42 knots.....
Unfortunately I not a professional in shiii modding but maybe an expert here in the forum or the author of this perfect mod itself?

Hi guys...first let me thank Mikhayl and all the guys for all their hard work ..its a new game..its AWESOME!!! I am loving it..getting my arse kicked on a regular basis due to my poor tactics...but its great !
A couple of questions though.
(1) I keep asking for my boat to be equipped with the four barrel flakvierling, which appears to be available..but I always end up with a single barrel 3.7CM...is this normal, or is it because of a glitch with my install ?
(2). I know that this has been asked before...but is there any way at all to get the flak guns to open fire on enemy ship rather than man them one by one...it would be awesome to have them all open up at once on a designated target.

:hmm: i dont think u can get the 4-barrel in this mod. just the single. the only gun u can upgrade is the front, from a single to a double.

It seems to stay the same on all patrols, no matter how long they have been ( up to 4 days ). Its not a big issue, but I wouldnt mind a bit more waves and rain.. or would that stop me manning the flak guns ? If bad weather does stop you manning the guns, can you work around the same as you do in SH3 by reducing wind speeds ?
Weather 2 : On my last patrol with 16KM viz enabled...I was confronted with a monochrome sky !..and very strange foggy effects...it happened twice and then I disabled the 16KM... after that it was ok... is this due to a known glitch ? ( I have all my SH3 and S-Boot mods on JGSM and enable/disable them depending on which game I want to play )
Single Missions : Is it possible to enter single missions with an S-Boot ? I tried ( loaded the S-Boot mods via JGSM then used SH3 Commander to load ) Up came the S-Boot loading screen but in the two different missions I tried I ended up in a U-boat underwater..same as if you played a single mission on stock SH3). Is there a way around this ?..I'd just love to escort the Scharnhorst through the Channel !
Weapons Officer : After getting my arse kicked many times I decided I was trying to do too much at once ..manual targetting, evasive action, firing guns etc.. So I enabled the weapons officer ... Is it best to set the target speed and torpedo depth manually and let him do the rest ( and does he get better at this if he is given a torpedo mans qualification ? ).

I tried ( loaded the S-Boot mods via JGSM then used SH3 Commander to load ) Up came the S-Boot loading screen but in the two different missions I tried I ended up in a U-boat underwater..same as if you played a single mission on stock SH3). Is there a way around this ?..I'd just love to escort the Scharnhorst through the Channel !
Weapons Officer : After getting my arse kicked many times I decided I was trying to do too much at once ..manual targetting, evasive action, firing guns etc.. So I enabled the weapons officer ... Is it best to set the target speed and torpedo depth manually and let him do the rest ( and does he get better at this if he is given a torpedo mans qualification ? ).

etc.

Hello Mate, Unzip the Schnelboat_Mod_v1.0.zip in a folder
and put the Holland canals in the SH3 root folder then start the SH3repacker
the right place is Data?Terrain/Data
place all the other mods in the Mod folder and enable with JSGME .

Great, attempting to install this mod has apparently rendered my base install unstable. I get a CTD halfway through the load screen, both when I tried to activate this mod (along with the "Holland" files), and then, rolling all that back (including reinstalling back the original terraindata files and SH3 Commander files, and reinstalling all my original mods that I had for my default XXI career). The culprit (or scapegoat) is our good old friend simdata.dll, and I have the current mods installed (after I took all the Schnellboot mods off):

Could I ever. I instantly came under heavy fire from Destroyers, which attracted the attention of more than half a dozen fighter bombers, and I was chased to my death by a corvette, destroyer and cruiser:nope:.
I was also picked up by a Light Cruiser (or whatever it was) when I tried to sneak up on a convoy. I went to flank speed and had the thing chase me for 50 kilometers until I finally shook him off come nightfall:rotfl:.
Again, this mod is awesome. It's a totally different experience to have no ability to dive, lots of AA weaponry, and only four torpedoes.
My only two gripes right now are that there is no way to make AI AA guns target surface vessels (or is there?), and that I've got only one s-boat to choose from. But it's still an awesome project.

Bump-nobody has a clue, including the mod maker? If have to do 2 clean reinstalls I will I guess (one for my regular career and one for the SB mod). If the problem then reoccurs tho...

I've got only one s-boat to choose from.Mikhayl explained me some times ago that the stock game limitations don't allows the "buy-a-new-model" option, so if someone will make a new s-boot model in future we will have to put it into the game via JSGME as a substitute boat....

Okay got my 2nd install working fine-went out and sunk two enemy torpedo boats, but took heavy damage from a trawler and had to skedaddle back to base with 9% hull integrity. That was pretty intense-now I need to run into a coastal convoy. :|\\

And I again tried to tangle with a trawler, but he and his little friend (Elco boat) got me. I was hoping for a lucky hit on the big gun but no luck.
Odd thing: I have SH3 Commander set for 7 days in base. When I reloaded my save, dated from the 2nd of July, I sailed out on October 3rd! I know about the line in basic.cfg, but that was set to 31 days, not 90. Gonna start a new career and see if it happens again, with the line in .cfg also set to 7. And perhaps instead of patrolling the coastline (which seems devoid of the coastal merchant traffic which I'd assume should be there), I'll head out south of Ireland and try to intercept incoming single merchants.

Every 1% of hull integrity repair cost 1 day. You lose 91% hull integrity, so must spend in base 91 days for repairs plus 7 days.

Another small complaint: clicking off the UZO invariably results in the torpedo depth meter being reset, so now I've had to train myself to F-key myself to another screen instead.
Did nail a small lone merchant last night as it was going E up the Channel.

They used to repair them if humanly possible and you're right, it didn't take months to get them back in service.
Example: In 1940, S-33 got run over by two British destroyers in a heavy fog. A 30 ft section of the bow was completely cut off.
The back end of the boat made it back to port and it was back in service in a few weeks.
This happened to another one ( can't find the number at the moment ) which got back home(reportedly at 20 knots) with the bow missing.
Edit: Have just been looking at a picture of a sorry looking specimen being taken back for repair. This also has the complete bow smashed to matchwood right up to the bridge by mine damage.
It took quite a bit to total an S-Boot. Being made mostly of wood, fire would have been the major cause of total destruction.
I think the damage model needs some serious reappraisal!!

Sorry for being late to the party here, but I now have a 6 patrol career, and it's a total blast. Have over 30k in tonnage now in Oct 1940. Some comments:
1. You can make use of some "choke points" in the channel to better your chances of finding a target. There is a peninsula east of Portsmouth which juts south into the Channel, and I just set up a 30km N/S 8km E/W patrol pattern and I'll usually have a lone merchant come along sooner or later.
2. I've sunk about half-a-dozen of my opposite numbers (PT boats). I can't hit squat at medium ranges but point blank the 37mm is deadly. Once their deck guns are blasted away it's easy pickings as they keep weaving back and forth until you sink them. Guess "run away!" is not in their vocabulary. I did get knocked down to 9% hull integrity once but usually they get the worst of it.
I don't mess with armed trawlers because that 3 inch gun is deadly at the close range I need to shoot them, and they're too small to shoot a torp at.
3. Also had a cool running battle with a convoy-had a DE and a Flower class corvette as escorts, was very intense making a flank run to launch my last remaining torp at 6,000 m, and got a lucky hit on a Empire freighter. My idiocy however led to me losing the slowing merchant when I exceeded the 32 km limit running from the escorts, and when I relocated the convoy the big hole in his side was gone. :-?
4. Limitations of the AI I know, but it is amusing to see one of those AI warships depth charging my last known position. :doh:
5. Saving the best for last. I came across a Type IX, so decided to cruise with him for awhile north of the Channel islands because the Brits often have a few trawlers and PT boats milling around there. Well what do you know but we came across a trawler, and when I started firing on him the sub really let him have it. I don't even mind him getting the credit for the sinking as I was laughing too hard with glee to care. :rock:
6. On that thought, I'd like to see a mod where all nearby (300 km) friendly warship traffic is regularly updated, so that you can go out and find one and cruise with him. I haven't seen a single fellow S-boot running around out there tho (which is odd, given the dozen+ enemy torpedo boats I've seen), so perhaps some of those could be put into the campaign too.

Sadly I know very little about inputting new groups into the campaigns and the potential pitfalls. I do know you could put a 6 hour update timer on them (100% chance of a contact report), allowing you to find them and sail around with them. Perhaps somebody else who has more know-how when it comes to such things?

:up: Hi, a good way to have packs of schnellboote sailing along would be to use scripted groups starting from harbours as the patrol starts, like the escorts do in GWX. I was thinking of using this method : http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=111893
with multiple alternate routes, so when you start your patrol you can either go alone or follow the group. With multiple alternate/random paths you would rarely have the exact same patrol, could be interesting :up:
For the start location being in concrete docks, sorry I must have screwed up when adding the reworked campaign layers, this could be corrected in campaign_LND.mis (with the mission editor).

and chance all the navalbase icons who are on the SB pens to the harbour
mayby this solve the problem for now

I have just transfered from Flot 1 to Flot 4 (Le Havre) in Jan 1941.
When it starts, my boat is trapped BEHIND the harbour. I tried to sail around but end up being destroyed. Further complicated by parts of the harbour which appear to 'float' at bridge level.

May be this is an old issue, but in some single mission (like cerberus) the mission starts with the boat under water, then going full ahead she surface but not enough for the crew to go on deck, and there is no way to do anything except navigate :
no uzo, no flak gun ecc. ecc.
Do you now why?

Is there any way to play single missions (not campaign) as an S-Boat? I've read that someone managed to play the "Happy Times" mission as a torpedo boat, which I can't seem to do.
EDIT: Never mind, I think I found my answer two pages back. Funny how you start underwater, of course, but hey, small price to pay.

Hi there
Ive done 6 patrols in 1941 have now been transferred to kristiansand Ive sunk 1 merchant ship when I was transferred to west africa and was returning to cherbourg
The north sea and english channel is empty of ships and planes, there are shore batteries but no targets
Ive now been given patrol area DR33 of the west coast of africa again ?

Hi I'm totally new at this game and want to load this mod as it looks great, but I havn't a clue what to do with the files. I have JSGME and think I know what to do with the SB01 Schnellboot mod v0.1 file, but it is the 'holland canals' I'm not sure on. The read me says "Install "Holland canals" :
Launch "SH3Repacker.exe" and point it to "Terraindata.BFI" SH3/data/terrain/data"
Where do I install it and do I just copy/paste from the expanded zip file to where its meant to go?

Well i have done all that i needed to do to make the install and stuff and then i started the game, everything went wel but when i got in the game i was inside a sub and outside i can see how the people stand like on the schnellboot ( so they are standing of the boat :p)
Can you help me out here ? :(

I will reinstall everything and make a picture of it tomorrow when i got spare time :)
It's really weird because i looked at other pictures and everything was like it should be except the boat which is a type 2A :-?
Another noob entering the forum thread.
Have finally got soms time to look at the S-Boot mod. => Looks fantaboulus!!!!:rock:
I have many separate installs of SHIII & SHIV.
Made one clean GWX2.1 + patch for 2.1 to use with SB1.0. Installation went well and game starts. => Beautiful!!!
My problem comes when loading a single mission OR starting a new career. I get the boat and crew but when loading it comes to say 95% and then CTD:s!:cry:
What can I have done wrong.
Not using Commander for this mod yet.
Installed the Holland canals first and then added SB1.0 via JSGME.
Thankful for tips and tricks.;)

That's strange, I never had anything like that. Can you try to disable the mod, go into SH3/mods/sboot/data/ and delete the campaign folder, then re-enable the mod ?
I will do it the hard way.
I will remove the whole install and begin from scratch. + following your tips as well.
I also guess the campaign bit as well.;)

WORKS LIKE A DREAM!!!!!:up:
Went to Dover in broad daylight and got shot to bits:lol: .
Embarrassing enough, I found out that the install I had to mod SB1.0 on, was only GWX2.0 (read zero).:oops: :oops: :oops:
After doing a full cleanup + creating a fresh GWX2.1 (read one) all is working.
Did not even remove the "campaign" folder.

Hi well cool Mod. Something I've wanted to play for years. Started playing and my graphics card died. typical !! I have a new one now so started again. Still miss alot of torp shots, sometimes its a case of "how close am I ? Oh crap that close !! panic panic. Lol
I have built a couple of easy single missions to practice with but I cannot find the Type 11A sub to place as my own only the Type 11B, is it not available in the mission builder ?
Also is there any way to add a button press that would make her zig zag, like 'hard to port wait 2-3 secs, hard starboard wait 2-3 secs hard port etc etc for a certain amount of time ?
Ooor is there any way to use the knuckle commands without submerging ?

Guys, I fully intend to read this whole thread but I had just a super-quick question:
How do you go out with a wolfpack of these little beauties? I'm dying to do an attack that way, since just 1 Schnellboot does not seem to be the correct historical method (?).
Do you have to set up a custom mission using the editor, or are there other possibilities?
Oh, and great news about the possible transfer to SH4! I would pay $30+ for this if it were commercial. You really should set up a PayPal donation if you haven't already, Mikhayl. You deserve compensation for this level of excellence. :up:
Also, I thought maybe you guys would enjoy this from my copy of Schnellboot in Action (hopefully OK just to post this snippet).:

Megaupload says that it is not possible to get any files at the moment.
BBW: I have also GWX 2.0. If the above camo skin for the Schnellboot is included, is there a way to convert the texture for the HighRes Texture folder?
