I would just like to say wow.
I have just left Kiel in 1939 October to be exact and just wow, from the harbour traffic to the dry docks very very nice. The sea plane that buzzes you was a little unnerving but my last career was in 1944 so I was a little jumpy to plane sound
Well done team
Just quick ? to enable the auto nav plot for the Kiel canal where does one need to be to enable as I get a pattern that would put me on land(yes I am clicking on the kiel out icon)
Thanks to all who have worked on this
Vader
GREAT question!
I too have heard or read somewhere about a mod that sets a course out the canal automatically?
Anybody???
von Zelda

In GWX 1.03, you set the "leaving Kiel by Canal" course while you were stationary at the dock. I'd assume it would be the same for GWX 2.0 but I haven't begun a mission yet.

From the Manual.
;)
To “use a canal pilot” if you are starting a mission at Kiel:
1. Dock your U-boat in its starting dock location or plot a course to that exact location.
2. Select the Navigator, then the “Kiel Canal OUT” Search Pattern, and follow the selected course.

Please be more explicit...set it...how or where?
You Gotta be kidding me?? That choice is really there?? I've plotted waypoints thru that darn thing sooooo many times! LOL
I can't WAIT to look for that now!!!
von Zelda

Select the Navigator icon and then select the Kiel Out search pattern. It is one of three patterns that pops up. The other two are Kiel In and the final one is a real search pattern. The stock game had 3 real search patterns but to make a course for the canal, they used 2 of original buttons.
Exactly where do you have to be to start the inbound path?

Well I have to say starting a new carrier with all that eye candy in keil wow. Totally cool. Buzzing aircraft, seeing mobile ship docks working. Graf zeppelin docked. soo much to see soo much details.
Going back now. Don't know when I'll see subsim for the next few days. Later all GWX 2.0 is in the house!

The question is...coming BACK from out in the open Sea...where must you be to select an "automatic" set of waypoints back up thru the Kiel Canal ...back to Kiel?
SleazeyWombat
12-09-07, 11:35 PM
For the outbound course (leaving Kiel), you must be in the dock when you plot the course. Do it before you even start the engines.
For the inbound course (returning to Keil), you must navigate to a little point marked on the map.
I forget the name of the point, because it's been a while since I was based in Keil. However, it's fairly obvious; it's right there at the western entrance to the Keil canal, at the spot where the canal widens and joins some estuary. The estuary or bay is part of the North Sea.
Mein Gott! I think I know the exact spot you mean....zoomed in...it says something like "entrance" to the keil Canal...and its just a black dot?
So...I should be facing into the canal...at that point...and again...selecting the navigator...the choice will be there for an automatic set of waypoints back to Keil?

Nice to see that you are enjoying it Vader1. Just wait until you see some of the cool stuff the team has put together for later in the war!
Don't forget to visit Hamburg on your way out of the Kiel canal! :D

It's not necesary to be at the exact spot , just south and to the west of it (in the map to the left and lower), then plot a course to that point (zoom in) the most accurate the better, and then click on the inbound button.

I really like the new sounds like when a merchant is on fire very nice indeed.
The whole game looks like a picture, I just cant stop taking screen shots:rock:
For me its just perfect,
Thought I will install some Mods of my own taste
I will give 3 or 4 Patrols to see what this team have
made and changed on this 2.0 version...
The Manual is superb, I love a good read and the
amout of Historical facts and tech info is brilliant,
any Manual should be like this, at least with this one
you have info and Acuracy ...
The Mod its soon to talk about it, but as first
imprecions, I just say congrats to what was achieved
here...
My sujecstion goes to everyone and myself included !
Don't install or change anything in the first patrols,
so that this way you can evaluate what worke has been
done by this superb GWX team...
I said it allready but will say it again,
my U-boat 1.2 Mod will only get out in the previouse
days of 25 December, around 23 /24, so that this way people
get the idea of what was changed and worked over
This GWX version...
I specialy think that this Mod deserves a huge
amout of respect and also haves the right to be
as untouchable as possible for the longest time as possible,
not only cause the effort and counteless hours of work
on it countained, but For respect and Honor that
this team deserves...
They gave everything in exchange for nothing !
Superb outstanding work guys !
PS: I see the hand of Ref in a lot of this Mod
building ! :yep:
Mate you are the best !

First of all "GUT GEPAUKT, GWX"!
Thank you.
I only had time to finish some training missions, and here are my first impressions:
1. I miss the "tail" of the objects on the map. Not even my boat has one, and it's hard to tell where I'm heading. Same for the ships. Especially frustrating when navigating under compressed time. Any way to have it as it was?
2. AA training mission: couldn't finish it, ammo runs out before taking out the 5 planes even with concentrated firing (close targets only). In real missions its not of concern, as airplanes rarely come at you in such a number. Did you change AA gun settings like the...
3. ...Deck Gun? As far as I know you lowered ammo efficiency by 50% and the effects are obvious.
4. What's that new big bulky thing in the VIIB Zentrale, on the way to the aft quarters?
I can hardly wait to discover more... shame I have to work (theoretically at least... )

There's sooooo much to "look at" I haven't been able to play yet!!
From the new interiors, fantastic planes and ships, my eyes are overloading. The night in the 18km mod looks perfect. Great job, well worth the wait. I can hardly wait to find some merchants to try out the new effects.

good thing you brought that up Samwolf. Let's see I introduce an SH4 effects for SH3 mod that changes the smoke, fire, adds new effects and sounds, and some other items and all of a sudden GWX 2.0 has new effects....coincidence? I think not! I find a way to make the lightning audible underwater (for the hydrophone) and now all of a sudden GWX has it also along with new underwater sounds....coincidence again?? I think not! Someone has some explaining to do :stare:
Well, I doubt very much they stole your work. Doing the same or similar things is well within any modders right.

Do you really think that you now everything about sh3 structures or you're the first to play with effects (btw, the only thing you've done so far is to copy some values from the sh4 files), or sounds?, I've added sounds to sh3 before you've started playing it, please give everyone a favor and stop trolling and hijacking GW threads, because we don't start a new thread every time we found or try to do something it doesn't mean that we're not aware of it.

Upset that you're not in the limelight now?
Feeling inadequate?
This is the second thread you have attacked GWX.

Ref,
I respect you as a modder with talent. I don't know everything about SH3 structures, I doubt anyone does. Maybe you should look again at my SH4 effects for SH3 mod as I did not just copy some values from the SH4 files. You're still opening your mouth without knowing, long before you appeared in this comunity, a modder (Gouldj) released Hollywood effects, the most respected Fx mod for sh3, he also was member of GW, most of the effects you see in GW where tweaked by him....

That's not the solution, just hiding your head in the sand, If RB has a big enough mouth to accuse as of plagiarism, the least he can do is present evidence, if not then swallow his jelouwsy and shut up, I've not been working like a mule for the last two years making a mod for everyone to enjoy to be accused by a noob of copying his work.

It's very sad to see an impression thread turning into a depression one. :damn:
There are many instances through out the history when important scientific discoveries have been made at the same time and thousand of miles apart. Thus, it is never a good thing to accuse someone publicly without a proof. And it's very sad to see such a thing upon the release of an eagerly awaited mod.
RB, please do not spoil this moment for this community and the authors. You should have asked them politely over a private message. I guess too late. The can of worms is opened now and I understand the fury of GWX members. Based on their previous reputation, GWX members would even credit my grand mother in their super manual if she ever touched one of the included files.
Anyway, thank you GWX team for your masterpiece!!!

Off Topic: I agree with Von Manteuffel in this thread is not about casting stones at one another, it is about your "First Impressions of GWX2.0" - so those that want to start such talk please talk about it in another thread!
On Topic: I completed training and started my first patrol last night and just explored the harbor of Kiel. My first impression of the changes made is jaw dropping. Just the extra air/sea traffic and objects in port alone greatly improve the look and feel of the game. Excellent job! My hats off to the entire GWX2.0 team for the improvements I have seen so far. The last time I had SHIII installed I used just the vanilla install so this is my first big mod installed and I am impressed. I will be heading out to sea on my first patrol tonight after work and look forward to experiencing more of the improvements made with GWX2.0!
Cheers!

I'm not suggesting that the GWX Team ignore such thinly-veiled accusations. What I am asking is that a group of people whom I have never met, but whom I have come to respect for their work, abilities and selfless dedication (to a freakin' computer-game for heaven's sake! ) do not descend into name-calling. This is a special day for many of us, but especially for you and the GWX Team. If someone wants to spoil it, just don't contribute to their efforts.
Mkubani's post says it all. No right-minded member of this community - and I like to believe we're a vast majority - will give a moment's credence to anyone who suggests that the GWX Team have used other people's work without giving due credit. A look into the archives and the great "Modding Etiquette" debate will more than ably illustrate the attitude of the GWX Team members and especially the Kpt.
I can fully understand your frustration and outrage. We all know there's no way that RB can provide evidence of what has never happened. He's been asked to do so. Let his silence speak louder than any words.

RacerBoy,
I have told this ons, and will tell again,
I respect you and your work a lot mate,
as it brings something new and Bright,
however let me remind you of some points that
you are forgeting and that are ecencial on
this Modding things !
When you started modding you must realise that most of the things
you Mod or try to Mod, were allready made in the past by other
very skilled Modders, I myself know of that, the fact that you see
in GWX some stuff similar to what you've made doesn't mean they
are copys or your works in use, there are a lot of people that
are as skilled as you in this community and some even more.
Most of us that Mod have however a thing that is called
pacience, it is needed for moding and for our walkings thru
this forums...
It's not a very bright and certanly not inteligent thing, to do
and say what you're saying without proving and suporte what
you are trying to say !
I know most of this guys from the GWX team, I know what they are
capable of doing and Moding, and I can resume them as The most
skilled group of modders I ever saw working toghether in a Mod
for any game in any Community !
Another thing is ( And no Offence mented ) Do not let you feelings
turn into Arrogance and spoile the great work you have been doing...:yep:

With all due respect to the good people who is saying to calm down, they are right 100% but... try to realise the boys as you could imagine... are narked because GWX is not even fully released to the donated people yet, and already somebody wants to pull it apart.... and as Ref said... two years is a LONG time to invest in anything. Never mind a PC game.
Its difficult to ignore such a thing. They are top notch people and well... I couldn't ask for better friends esepcially on the internet!

Please don't take me quoting you as anything personal, It's just that after almost 4 years beeing member of this forum, I've seen a lot of times threads like this one closed without fixing the underlaying problem, what I really would like to see is that this kind of issues beeing resolved with a more severity, if we (the GW team) are guilty of copying RBs work a public appologie and a mention on the manual credits section is deserved, in the other hand if we are not, we deserve anything less than that, if this is not complied then a more severe sanctions is in order.
BTW, thanks for the support, and I know it's just a game, but after two years of hard labour you start seeing this as "part of the family", there have been countless hours working on something we love and with no expectations of profit.
We don't want everyone to agree with us, like us, or play our mod, but what we wan't (and I think we've earn it) is some respect.

The problem is, that this 'problem' isn't going to go away because Racerboy doesn't know when to lay off. He's taking a dump on GWX threads as fast as he can.
He'll keep opening the same can of worms as he's done on other occasions... and it is time for him to stop.
You are right. This should be a cool day. Unfortunately it is now otherwise and the blame rests with Racerboy.
We have tried like hell to build a good reputation and to stand up straight and take it like men when we are wrong.
People like Racerboy shouldn't be tolerated in a place (Subsim) that prides itself in having a community atmosphere.
When Racerboy first came here... we helped him in private. We expected nothing in return.
When he began trashing members of our team in public and became insistant regarding help with modding issues SIMULTANEOUSLY in private, we decided to let him find his own way... and he's had an axe to grind ever since.
Racerboy is the ONLY person we have ever denied permissions to regarding the use of our work.. and this was a direct result of his rudeness to our team.
He and his buddy 'MONOLITH' have already TWISTED private messages and posted them quoting me after we discussed matters as a team and responded to his rudeness in private.
The bridge was his to burn.
I am prepared to prove my statements to the appropriate people.
We will not stand for this crap from him any longer.

I cannot provide said proof you are looking for their Kpt. I did not accuse you all of stealing any of my work, I said it was rather odd how I released an effects mod and all of a sudden you all have one also. Put yourself in my shoes and tell me how you would perceive that??
I sifted through file after file, mod after mod, looking for anyone who added an underwater sound for the lightning and couldn't find any. I added it to my effects mod after finally figuring out how to make it work correctly. I check your files and it's there, an underwater sound for the lightning. Once again, put yourself in my shoes and tell me how you would feel?? Is it possible Ref or someone could've figured this out also? Yes, but you do have to say it's quite odd how it has happened.
Now go on, rally your troops and fire away at me. You all do it everytime. I'm big enough that I can take it though.

@ Ref
Never doubt the respect in which you and the rest of the GW Team are held by me and, I'm sure, everyone in this Community.
I'll never understand what drives you and the Team to spend so much time and effort on what you do - but I'm immensely grateful that you do.

GWX 2.0 modifies more than 7500 files, with TENS of THOUSANDS of changes.... and you want to piss and moan that we modified the fraggin particles .dat?
You trash our team's integrity and trash our release...
You've gone too far... and there needs to be consequences for it.

I trash nothing! I am a user of your mod and enjoy every minute that I get to play with it.
Instead of making your own .dat and placing your new effects there you chose to put them in the particles.dat file knowing darn well that I also modified that file. And as you stated earlier you have denied me 'permission' to use GWX files. I feel you did this a slap in the face! So tell me when is this ever going to end? Why is it that we have to be enemies? Do you see me as a threat or something? This forum is about modding games, it should be a place where ideas grow and knowledge is shared. You all harbor tools and all and don't make them public to anyone. Where is the community feeling in that?
What do we have to do to find a middle ground we all can work from?
