I received such a useful response to my previous question I will test my luck with another.

When I add other subs (computer controlled) to missions I am building they will move a short distance and then stop as if someone had killed the throttle. It makes no difference if allied or Japanese. I made sure they have waypoints and speed > 0. In the simulator they work just fine. In game play, however, they drift to a stop after a few minutes. Even the crews look dead. They just sit there and if it's a Japanese sub they will not even fire back if you start pounding 'em with the deck gun. No problems whatsoever with any surface craft in the same missions. Has anyone else had this experience and, if so, is there an explanation or a fix? A possible clue is that while still moving during the opening minutes, these subs have no wake.

Had the same problem in SHIII and never did solve it.

best wishes,

AI subs have to be created. the ones in mission will only really work
as static units when you put the sub in you havent changed the
speed to zero so it drifts to a stop from whatever speed you have
it set at. (ish)

In SH4, like SH3, the AI subs had no AI to operate them. Only after the
modders got involved did we see any kind of operational structure to their
movement or participation but then it was only very basic at best....
