View Full Version : [REQ] Better starting crew configurations

I won't even get started on how we can have unlimited petty officers and officers, as I've made my case known in other threads. What I would like to see corrected, in the meanwhile, is the starting crew configurations for each boat.

Now, going off the assumption there would be 2 petty officers for every 3 seamen, one can see the ratios we currently have are way off. In the Balao, for instance, we have all petty officers (and one officer ) stacked end to end in the engine rooms, while in the control room there are more POs on duty than there are seamen.

With that said, I'd like to see the crew configs adjusted to look something like this:

-Deck Watch: move officers from conning tower and engine rooms to here, with one per shift. No more than one petty officer per shift.

-Forward Torpedo Room: drop one PO per shift.

-Conning Tower (aka, sensors stations): remove all officers; 1 PO per shift.

-Control Room: 1 officer and on PO per shift.

-Engine Rooms: remove officers; 2 POs per shift.

-After Torpedo Room: 1 PO per shift.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Comments?

Hehe, that's a good question. I'm sure out there are lists out there of submarine crews at the time of the boat's commissioning.

In the meanwhile, I "edited" the starting crew for a 1944 Balao. The screenshot I took was just after I started the mission, so the efficiency bars will be just a slight bit higher:

Personally, I think these are more "real world" efficiency ratings that one could expect for a crew fresh out of training. Though, looking at it now, it'd probably be a good idea to move the CPO off the AA gun and add one with leadership qualifications to the control room. Not to mention, adding on PO to each forward torpedo shift would keep the roughly 2:3 balance. Again, comments?
