anyway. my first trouble have apeared...
sank the destroyer and 5 minutes later i struck a mine. i got heavy flooding and heavy dammage. sank to 45m and started repairs.
Whats the H.I? And Im halfway through the canal, sunk three more DDs, got only one DC run then PD try to get a stern shot at the last DD, got him.
H.I ? where ?
srry to say this but i got to abort my mission.
i have 1 minute left to certain death.
but dont worry. IL BE BACK
 Bye bye Kaluen Hubert Ammann and U-732 are no more. Well they left on January 17 from Brest, very slowly crawling to my grid in AK13 which they never reached. I swear the Brits are turning the Atlantic into a permanent airshow!!! :nope: Well on those long submerged periods I did some chores, cleaned my bathroom and toilet.
I actually found a lone tommie large cargo maybe a straggler who spotted me before I dove, called air support, and was weaving so much and caused us to waste two torpedoes. I loaded 2 TIs to replace which may have had consequences.
About 40 hours away from my grid, still diving constantly from RWR warnings, I got contact details of 2 !!!! outgoing convoys and I was smack on the path of one of them. I patiently waited, submerged to 40M silent running when we detected radar emissions from the escorts and slipped through the screen. Fired at 2 vessels, a liberty cargo and a medium tanker with my 2 TIs, and the TIII and TIII FAT. Let loose my Falke at one of the escorts (all Castle or Buckleys :damn:) who was actually too far :damn: .
I started to dive and got a hit....and then much later another hit (my FAT I suppose) but got into the death circle, I guess my TI wakes were spotted? This was early morning just before sunrise. To cut to the chase after 1/2 hour chase with 4 escorts I got serious flooding in the 2 forward compartments which filled with blue and the crew could not pump the water out. Used up all compressed air to no avail..it was really sickening to watch.
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/9251/sh3img15520070145250ig6.jpg
U-732 got to about 500 M before crushing !!! .. the escorts heard implosion sounds and noted a slick on the sea. Two ships in the convoy were damged but managed to keep up with the convoy and reach New York safely.
U-732 got 4 merchants and 1 warship for 39079 tons and 7 patrols.
I think I'll go to a smaller sea next career, Black Sea and be near the biggest land war ever, or the Med with its nice weather and good food and wine. :arrgh!:

Well, talk about fun in the Atlantic:
The Bismark sinking is coming up. I got my patrol grid for below the equator. So I burned rubber down there, and burned rubber back - refueling at a milk cow.
Now to just happen to be sitting in the right position to see some action maybe.

On the way to BF13 from Kiel. Not as crazy or as skilled as you guys but who knows, my crew are eager as I have locked up the beer untill they get their first kill, and issued everyone with a clean pair of underpants.
U-52, patrol 5, March '40 returning from mid Atlantic. Low on fuel, provisions. No ammo except for flak.
112,000 tons for the patrol. Started with with sinking an Aux. Cruiser at Scapa Flow (I was looking for the Illustrious, but intel screwed up). Happily sinking merchants as we headed south, we never reached our patrol area. Made contact with a large convoy, though only one forward and two aft torps left, decided to attack.:arrgh!:
The only escort turned out to be a poorly armed Aux. Cruiser at the back of the convoy. :nope: U-52 pentrated the convoy and waited for the Cruiser. Final forward torp directly into its forward magazine= unprotecteted convoy.
U-52 surfaced and using the deck gun, took out larger merchants and tankers working from the back, forward to avoid collisions. Seven ships downed before we ran out of useful Ammo.:damn:
Will call into our supply ship in Spain on the way north, have now opened orders and will attempted to assist in operations off Norway.:smug:

Headed to CF31, sighted a large tanker and a freighter. Two fish into the tanker plus deck gun for both ships. Sunk. Proceeding to Freetown, picked up a cargo/passenger liner in ET21, 3 torps and sunk. Running total at 11,762 (pathetic) tonnes and noticing a disturbingly large amount of Warship traffic heading to and from Freetown.

It is with a heavy heart, but a warm sense of nostalgia that I make my return to the icy seas of the Atlantic.
Waiting for a 1.3 patch for SHIV has got me longing for the days of my trusty Type IX and the fun I had as a Kaleun instead of a Skipper. I want to love SHIV, but the bugs just kill the immersion for me. Until the radar and convoy AI are fixed, I have to put it down. Too bad. It's a friggin beautiful game.

Heading closer to gibralter!
when in gibraltar dive to 150 or more and set your speed to 1 knot. be sure you dive not to soon else your crew will die. but not to late eather

U-52 returned to Wils after two months away. Patrol 6 started from Spain, and arrived to support the Norway Op. Just in time to sink HMS Nelson and shake the ten DD escorts. 82,000 tons for the patrol. Patrol 7 started poorly with the CE failing to return from leave, and an assigned patrol north of Aberdeen in 80m of water. Still. We have a job to do. Intercepted a heavily escorted convoy and hit 4 merchant, sinking 3. Could not shake one of the DDs. They finally ran out of DCs. But as the weather improved I could not loose it, at 80m I was easy to pick up. This was a good captain & crew. I came up and fired torps, but they were sooo easy to see in a calm sea, and they avoid all but one, which went under! Many hours later, and much fish-tailing, we lost him. 8600 tons to our credit, but two torps left. U-52 survives, but the enemy is improving! June 1940. No more shallow attacks for us, not mater what the orders...
congratz you made it, Firouz

This is a good patrol for me, I am making full use of my deck gun this patrol. As most of the ships I come across are just floating bathtubs with cargo. Some are just plain not worth a torpedo. So its good I get to use the guns.
shooting accurately in winds of 7 meters per second though is a little more challenging. lol
I wait till the boat is going down on the waves before I fire the gun, then use the upward ride on the waves to reload, then when down fire again. Much cheaper and easier than firing torpedoes. I also blast with my flak as well, just for more speed of sinking. I am really saving on torpedoes this patrol as normally I don't get much chance to use my deck gun.

The deckie can help a lot in getting good tonnage until late 1940. Then, the tubs begin to get guns of their own. I had a nasty surprise when a troop transport doing 17 knots opened up on me with several guns including flack on 07 October 1940. Got severely damaged.

You've got to love this game.
There is often a VERY fine line. U-52 has specialised since Sept 39 in long range attacks in shallow water. No problems, and big tonnage. :arrgh!: Then June 40 - I guess the game threw in a better quality escort with better technology. Even so, U-52 was still in the clear, until one tiny mistake on the part of Kapitanletnant Klos caused the tail end DD to take a look. Result - U-52 has to come up for air sometime - and those guns cause damage even at PD (as it turned out).
Been feeling happy to make it home with 40k tonnage.:|\\
That time we were just happy to make it home.:hmm:

Last night carried out an attack on a convoy just outside of Gibralter. Shadowed it by day, upon night we moved in on the surface. Used the Uzo to line up, then due to the presence of a black swan dived to PD to carry the attack, success.
took out a 13,000 ton large merchant, and a 10,500 ton Large Cargo. Bringing my patrol tonnage now up to 37,000.
Searchlight got our periscope, time to go deep fast, cutting a long story short after getting shook about like a rag doll we were able to slink away. Still need to go to our patrol area.

Clear through Gibraltar straight and into the Med! Must certainly come back here when there is more traffic about, is rather quiet in Jan 1940. Picked up 3 ships heading through, Small Freighter, Medium Cargo and a tramp steamer. 1 torp for the Freighter, 2 for the Cargo and deck gun fire to sink the tramp and wounded freighter. Not bad for a first night in the med. Picked up a Large Passenger/Cargo ship that I mis-identified as a troop ship. Fired 2 torps causing them to slowly sink, then I realised it was a Spanish Passenger ship....whoops. Headed further into the med, sunk a small merchant with one torp and a few rounds of the deck gun before heading to CO42 while reloading the torpedo tubes with the last of the eels.

On the way back to Willi shortly in my V11B, 66% Hull Int. May/June 1940. Patrol 6.
Spent a week east and north of Scapa, but the swordfish eventually came in packs of about 6 and a single 20mm was not enough to keep them at bay forever while I recharged batts. Sadly, lost my flak gunner (RIP Matey) after he downed about 9 of them, and a Hurri. Concentrated on the C2 and C3 with single torps and deckie to finsih, also a couple'a small merchs. Managed to get 7 cargos.
Went on to patrol of north-east Ireland (AM44 I think?) and clouted a few more smaller clankers, and a single V and W. On trip back with only 5 torps left ran straight into a big convoy just north of AM52, heading ESE about 5 knots !!! Only 3 neutrals at the back of convoy. Unfortunately the weather is lovely (clear, 5 m wind, no fog)
Only 1 DD escort, and thats now in Davy Jones Locker - but it took 2 eels, and he hit me also with 1 or 2 rounds from his guns. Was running on surface, very slow - and watch didn't see him until at 3km! Badly damaged topsides - but all repairable, with time, except flak gun.
But now have an unprotected CONVOY! Have 3 eels left and about 65 rounds of 88mm - so proceeeding to try and despatch the 2 T2's, 'cos they're usually 1 shot only, and as many of the C2's as I can manage before running out of ammo.
Will report in later..... if possible, as going back thru' the channel for fun!

Spilled my beer on my new "leederhosen" when the lookout reported a Warship contact on bearing 026, distance 2,5 NM - we just came out of the worst storm in the Med for centuries (15+ m/sec and heavy rain for 2 weeks!) so i forgive the look-outs for not spotting them earlier - the Warship is a Southampton class and it turns out that it's the rear-guard of a CUNARD LINER escort - I have only 3 eels left, one T4 (acoustic "homing" torpedoes) loaded in the bow tube, one regular in the stern tube and one spare in the aft reserve (could have used that fish I wasted on the Flower class) - I order flank speed and 20 degree port rudder to get out of range and then set a parallel course to intercept - the look-out reports another contact: a Swan class makes up the second ship of the escort - to make a long story short: I get in a reasonable firing position (~2300 yards) and fire 3 & 5 against the CUNARD - the T2 is a dud (explodes 1/2 way) and the T4 is not really moving, so I zoom in on the attack map, and to my horror I discover that it is indeed moving: it's turning around and heading home :) - a few minutes later I'm hit by my own torpedo followed by a couple of direct hits from the Southampton class or the DD ...LOL
Edit: I don't normally reload saves when things don't go my way, but this time I reloaded and tried again: nailed that CUNARD with one fish and got away to tell the tale ... 39,000 tons to add :)

U-52 docked for quick resupply after a long range Patrol 8 (34,000 tons), will set out for Wils tomorrow.
Report that torp issues experienced in April still not solved. Fired 2xT2 and 1xT2 from 6,000m at a 23,000 ton British Liner. Both T2's exploded prem. The T1 struck cleanly but impact pistol failed.
Suggest BDu arrest those responsible for shoddy development.
Thanks for the Golden Oak Leaves to my Knights Cross. The crew says it looks like the town Mayor's chain.
If the torps work, will return to Wils in triumph. Drinks on me!

Jan 6, -44. 30´th Flot. Constanza.
U-24, IId, returns to base after her 13´th patrol. At Jan 4´th we had a field day together with the Luftwaffe south of Kertch. In an six hour long battle the enemy lost 2 small tankers, 1 small passenger liner, 1 passenger/cargo, 1 tramp steamer and 1 coastal tanker:rock: We got awarded for 1 small tanker and the tramp, but had hits on the other small tanker and the pass/cargo too. In all it was four different convoys passing the same area in the afternoon. Several ships limped on burning while the escorts fired their AA guns and dropped Dc´s:rock: At least two Stukas was seen going down in flames, but thats a low price for that result. At least we got some back on the Ruskies:up:

5. October 1940, Tanker Alley
Just had my first successful large convoy attack and the most amazing spread.
In my previous convoy attacks I've been approaching from 45 degrees a beam, surfaced - increase to flank speed when near visul detection range - dive, kill the engine and drift into a distance of approx. 1 nm. This doesen't work for me in SHIII as the ASDIC picks me up every time.
This time I tried a different tactics and approached from close to 90 degrees a beam - expected to miss the convoy, but after having evaded the flank escort I found myself between the two nearest columns - a little too close for comfort! I had the weather in my favour and due to a few miserable convoy attacks I decided to take my time and get some proper firing solutions programmed instead of the rush jobs I've done earlier. I select a Medium Tanker and a Large Merchant (a C-2?) for my two spreads and down-periscope to do my calculus. When I'm ready I raise periscope with my finger on the trigger and sweaty palms - when moving the scope back to the Medium Tanker I spot the "HMS Nelson". This is the first time I have a Battleship in my sights, so I decide that it at least deserves a try, even though it's a poor AOB and almost 2500 meters. I fire a two torpedo spread at the Tanker, one fish at the Large Merchant and swing the periscope around to fire one T-II set for magnetic detonation at the Nelson. For good measure I fire tube 5 at an Ore Carrier directly on my 6 at 800 yards.
All my fish hits their targets except one - it passes the tanker and scores a one-shot kill on a Medium Merchant! The Nelson and the Tanker are also one-shot kills, the C-2 sinks later on and the ore carrier get's it in the rudder, but continues. I walk away with 50,000 tonnes for the costs of 5 torpedoes!

Been following and attacking large convoy for 3 days. Tonight, calm seas, full moon.
Got to intercept point after dark. Convoy approaching with some nice targets. Could not see any escorts. Was about to fire at a large merchant 1200 meters away.
Ping, ping, ping. Out of nowhere a destroyer barrelled toward us 500 meters away.
Full speed ahead, dive!. 20 Degree turn toward Destroyer.
While still with periscope above water the chart update still did not show the destroyer.
The first DC salvo barelly missed. Pretty soon, the destroyer had its buddies around me, dropping charges like unwanted garbage.
It took over 3 hours to shake off these buggers
Has anyone else had a similar experience with DD's not showing on the update on a clear night?:shifty:

In 4 mediterranean patrols I've sunk 4 passenger liners for a total of 170k tons or 1 whole British Army Division bound for North Africa, I just hope I'm not going to have to explain this at my trial after the war :-?
Have also seen a lot of our Italian Allies' ships get bombed to smithereens by RAF Coastal Command planes flying out of Malta, which is annoying because Malta really isn't big enough to store 2 whole wings of Wellington bombers, assorted hurricanes, loads of Catalinas and so many Sunderlands that I'm wondering whether the guys in the atlantic are seeing any planes at all :nope:
Oh well, on with the war....I just hope the italians decide to sortie en masse with all those nifty ships, I could use the backup

On 3rd day out of Lorient saw a Condor at dusk --Wow! A friendly airplane! Shortly after, received report of enemy convoy. 24 Hours later, we attacked shortly after dark. 2 large freighters sunk. Were depth charged for 4 hours. No damage. Huge convoy. Attempted attack before dawn. Bloody Tommies changed course while 8,000 meters from our position. Frustrating! Probably heading for the Med where Rommel has just landed. Will attempt another attack in the evening.:yep:
U96 - March 1941
Under heavy weather with low visibility for days we are holding on and hope for better hunt in the coming days. ship and crew are in perfect condition. As soon as weather clears "Werden wir den Tommys zeigen wo der Mops den Most holt!"
Huge convoy. Attempted attack before dawn. Bloody Tommies changed course while 8,000 meters from our position. Frustrating!
Yeah, that gets irrating. :yep: Happened to me last night. U-52 10th Patrol, Sept 1940, out of Lorient, in BF13 (560,000 tons career to date - whats a guy gotta do to get a desk job in this navy?). Except this convoy turned in front of us, stripping the escort from the outer edge of the wheel. Attacked on nightfall sinking 6 merchants for 56,000 tons in two attacks from 3,000m to 5,000m. Going back in again after midnight for a third attack:arrgh!:.
Good luck on getting the 1,000,000...

Sunk 53523 tons enemy shipping, including one Black Swan.
Sorry to hear that Brag. Oh so close! Good to to see that U123 is safe to sail again :D
U52's long range attacks have been a work in progress. I used to be an up-close sort of captain. This attack was on a calm, clear night. The enemy would likely spot us anything under 2km, and if I got too close the returning escort would be on the open side of my retreat. Long range shots - two to a ship and I was gone on the surface before the first strike ;)
Get your timing wrong and the first strike starts a zig-zag and the other target gets off lightly:88)
Can't have that:nope: :rotfl:

U-46 Fresh out of Subschool Leutnant z s Hans Brix in command
Decided to do a shakedown cruise in the Ostsee
went to see what was happening in Gdynia and Hel and Danzig
lots of Polish merchants and only 2 active warships, a good first training engagement for the crew. after torpedoing the warships I sank them all with the deckgun!
After that I went through the kattegat and Skagerrak in heavy storm, decided to hang out off Aberdeen and give patrol area AL36 a miss.
Lots of British shipping there, sunk lot off small steamers, a medium cargo, a tugboat and a schooner, by then it got a little hairy what with planes and destroyers and such.
Went a bit further north between Orkneys and Shetlands.
Sunk another 2 ships a tramp steamer and a large merchant
returned home to Kiel on 27 september 39
gave the crew quite a shakedown :D

Passed through Dover strait on the way to AM79, lots of torpedo boats, came through on the surface on a calm clear but moonless night, no real hassle if you stick to the French side about 6nm off Calais, did not engage shipping in Dover Channel.
Cut a path of destruction through merchant shipping all the way from Brighton to the Scilly Isles, have dived 6 times to avoid Hurricanes, have been fired upon only once, no damage. Proceeded west submerged during day, on surface at night
9 merchant vessels sunk so far
Have received report of large convoy heading west from st George's channel, have 5 eels left for forward tubes, intent is to acquire convoy and shadow until well outside allied air cover, then attack and return to base by sailing around Scotland
Good Work , useful info and good plan.

Heh,
U-46 reporting in
I missed that convoy...
I used my last eels on a Whaling Factory south of Ireland, but since the weather was nice and calm I decided to continue on to patrol area AM79, I still had 207 rounds for the deckgun after all.
continued northward after my 24hours in AM79 were up, sank a large merchant off the Hebrides with about 20 rounds, continued around scotland, got badly bombed (see screenshot thread) but soldiered on, sunk 2 more small ones with the Gun, went past Scapa on the way to Kiel
Sunk a medium cargo in AN43 then ran into another Large Merchant, this took the last 35 rounds and all the remaining AA ammo, it stopped dead but didn't sink so I decided to not wait it out, gave it a 17 knot bump with the bow, that didn't help or so I thought :nope:
was Barreling toward it again at 17knts when I get the she's going down, had to slam on the reverse and left full rudder so as to not damage the boat any further, that worked (barely)
returned to Kiel 1 november of 39 with 70k tons (mostly small merchants) one dead sailor and 68% hull (they didn't tell me that until I got home) got an Iron cross for my efforts (the crew got a lot more)
No dud torpedoes at all, one tramp steamer that wouldn't sink and had Elco's crawling all around it in der Kanal and one bad miss (speed setting stupidity on my part)
all in all a good patrol for this Gung-ho Kaleun
Good patrol, Crancky! Bur ramming scratched the paint:nope:. Drinks are on you! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

8-12-40
Engaged a slow northbound convoy west of Ireland sank their Southhampton Cruiser, a medium cargo, 2 large cargos a large merchant and a smal merchant in 3 successive attacks in one night not bad tonnage if I do say so myself, after that the weather turned nasty all the way to my patrol area AD88, got there, encountered a ship on the way in thick fog, heard it on hydrophone and intercepted, turned out to be a hospital ship. :damn:

0001 hrs. The day started perfectly. Torpedo treffer! Sank three ships with five torpedoes fired. Escorts did not bother us.
We left Lorient on 21 April did not have a single contact in transit and were stooging around 400 kms NW of Freetown hoping to intercept a convoy. Our position was almost perfect when we got report of large convoy, intercept point only 4.5 hours steaming at 10 knots.
We attacked at midnight then followed for an attack at dusk.
The second attack went even better. We attacked at dusk. Launched 4 torpedoes, sank 2 tankers and one large freighter. Tonnage for these 24 hours 78,000. Too bad can't catch convoy before midnight for a 100k day :-?
Also sent first report to BDU Conavaro.

spent nearly the whole trip back underwater because of heavy storms.

Got promoted to OBlt zs but no medals because we lost a crewman overboard while chipping ice off the hull just south of Reykjavik. observed and heard several small craft near Iceland sink in the terrible weather, 3 elco's and a rescue launch. was unable to pick up survivers due to storm and cold.

Spent all torpedoes on northbound convoy from Freetown. Wasted 5 torpedoes on a bothersome Black Swan that keept popping up and forcing me to dive. Nevertheless got 106K tons.
ETA Lorient 20 May.
I've become a bit on an anti-escort specialist in the last few weeks. Its 1943 and you can practically walk from Lands End to New York on the decks of corvettes, sloops and destroyers without getting your feet wet.
I have decided to perform a service for our comrades by removing as many of them from the surface of the Atlantic as possible. Picking off the escorts makes the convoy attack easier (and the escape afterwards) and the IXC has plenty of eels.
There is muttering in the messdecks about this change in strategy and my other tactic of staying on the surface to destroy any attacking aircraft but I've got a Luger to enforce disipline amongst the crew.
I don't expect we'll live for ever but we will die taking the fight to the enemy and not slinking away with our tails between our legs.

Ay, there were two refueling tankers there. The 'Brake' is still there, unfortunately, I'll never get there. It'll be gone on the 11th of March, it's the 27th of February '44 and I'm off the shoulder of Spain.
Trying to pick up a London - Sierra Leone convoy before refueling at U-488 (that'll be there until april - so if I try for Penang, I'll have max fuel, until the last drop).
I know everything about conserving fuel, I have a feeling I can just make it, but it's hard to include the submerged/battery kilometers into my plan. Ofcourse those do not consume diesel.
I can't upgrade, and there's no changing flotilla either ofcourse.

U46 oct 41
Completed 9 patrols. 50k on this one, the best we on the boat have ever done. The british are getting cunning, they have put guns on their merchants, and their DD's are getting cocky! Oh well only, 3 drinking days then back to keel busting:damn:

Warships cost a lot of money to run, they burn a lot of fuel and produce NOTHING. When you sink warships you bring relief to the enemy as they need less food, less fuel.
Be more agressive sinking merchants!

Jeesh it is!?! :o
you use a different bearing overlay, that's what got me confused.
and Brag, yes very true, but that's the Flagship, they've been showing that thing off all over the world since 1918
it may not be strictly strategically sound to sink it but the propaganda value shouldn't be underestimated, the Tommies think that thing is the bee's knees and nigh invincible.
sinking it with a puny uboat that's even cheaper to construct is a major coup.
nevertheless I still think Mohr is nuts, but the U-bootwaffe needs his special kind of lunacy, makes the rest of us look relatively sane:D

Mohr only sunk the hood like 3-4 times, I sunk him 22 times already.

Yeah, we need Mohr, I follow his adventures with great interest. His raid on Gibraltar was a classic.

Returned from 14th GWX patrol. Weather was awful. One one clear day, the Gulf of Cadiz was buzzing with Tommy aircraft. Was attacked by an Anson at night.
Good thing had Bernard on board, I can blame several wasted torpedoes on him.
Visibility was 400 meters most of the time. So my kills were mostly manual at 0 gyro angle. The moment the target appeared on the scope set 5 degrees off center
hit the fire button. :smug:
Now's time for some serious partying at chez Lulu's. Total tonnage for career: 1,182,859. I hope Hitler doesn't invite me again for more coffee slurping.

near gibraltar.
good weather.
no enemy aircrafts or DD's YET
Look out for those airplanes near Gib. The Ansons will attack at night, even in mid 1940!

Fourth patrol. Approaching Wilhelmshaben after a month of storms and fog, we return in clear, calm weather. One large cargo sunk off Trondheim, one large cargo and two escorts sunk in a large convoy NNW of Lowestoft, position called in and returned to base after wasting a lot of torpedoes to weather, duds, 400m visibility and extremely shallow water. Sonarmann Günther claims at least one torpedo must have hit the seafloor - like the V destroyer did a bit earlier.
Our first destroyer kill. Worth a measure of smuggled whisky, that.
