Sorry for the thread, but Kpt. Lehmann's box has no more free space and that's the only way for me to contact him.

@Kpt. Lehmann:
Please send me your e-mail address on:
a.o at bk dotty ru
or send a PM. I'd like to present to you a proposal from a team of Polish players that work on Polish translation of GWX and wish to contribute it to the GWX mod. Thanks in advance.

I've got a mail from the Kpt. last night, he's PC is still out of bussiness, and he can't access his acount from work, you'll need to wait until things get normalized.
In any case the next patch will be only some fixes and will not add new features except the radars and DF antennas.
I've sent you PM with my email so if you want we can start discussing your proposal.

As ref said the Kpt is still without a computer

If you do a Polish translation for GWX you can try one for the next update of JSGME as well. Contact Jaesen if you're interested. I know he's looking for people to do a number of translations.

And as we're talking about GWX, one more thing: are the cities' names on the map to be in:
- German,
- English or
- original language?
Do they change as the boarders change? I noticed that there is some inconsistency. For example Kraków (Polish) is spelled IIRC Krakow on the map (Polish), but Warszawa (Polish) is called Warsaw (English; English for Krakow would be Cracow, and German accordingly Warschau and Krakau). I think it would be better to call them all in original languages OR call them in language of the current ruler (but that would be quite a bog work to do) OR call them all in English/German/French/and-soon-I-hope-Polish depended on the language versions.

I'll be happy to provide you with a comprehensive list of all the Polish city names present on the GWX maps in all these languages, I'd add some Russian too, as there are some minor misspellings there.

Yep Jaesen Jones is the same man as JScones and I know he is looking for translations for JSGME. I know he has Greek, German, French and Spanish ready, but obviously the more he has the better.

As far as the names on the map are concerned I think you might have trouble with the various fond types as languages like Russian or Greek don't use latin based characters. I'm not an expert on this so please don't quote me. I guess the devs will know better.

If you're interested, my world map mod does the original name/occupier name thing!

Though it might be too many cities on the map for somebody's taste...

They WERE all in English but somewhere between file changes some got switched again
The files will be redone in the spring update

I see quite many naming and spelling inconsistencies on the screenshots. An example: Rostov-on-Don. It's not a Russian name definitely, it's a half-English translation of it. Would be hard work to name them all properly, though, as you have a big bunch of cities there. :)

I won't try your mod, as it was widely commented as GWX noncompatible by GWX team members and I won't risk my GWX install. I'd like to have this reach map, but I also presume it could break my computer that allready has big troubles coping with the GWX demands. :)

Hmm, I understand, but it could be made simpler by omitting the 'strange' letters. I don't suppose any non-Polish speaker would be ever able to properly pronounce for example '£ód¼', so there's no need to keep it as much original. You can name it 'Lodz' and still it will be ok. As to Russian, there are widely used rules of writing Russian using Latin alphabet, so every name could be written in Latined Russian: Moskva (Moscow), Sankt-Peterburg (Saint Petersburg), Rostov-na-Donu (Rostov-on-Don) etc. The same applies to Arabic names: Al-Qahira (Cairo), Al-Quds (Jerusalem). And so on.

The most important thing is consistency. If it's English, it should be always English. If it's original, always keep the original spelling.

If you would be needing any assistance, you've got my hands to help. I could check spelling of every city name of Poland, Russia (and sattelites) and all the Arabic countries, to be sure they are all correct. These small details is what I love in GWX. :)

I totally agree with you. I like them in the same format as well. I guess the best solution (although I'm not sure if it is possible and practical) would be to have the two versions and enable whichever one we like via JSGME.

My view is ALL names should be in the same language - be it German, English, Welsh, I don't care. As long as EVERY name is in the same language.

For consistency though, by default I think the names should be in German. Why? Well:
- the nav map is in German
- the flotilla grids are in German
- German/Axis names are used for occupied cities like Batavia (Jakarta) and Singapore (Syonan-to).
- GWX has an English optional mod which turns the nav map and flotilla grids back into English - it would stand to reason that it could also turn German map names into English. Thus players can have either German OR English, and are not forced to use the current hybrid-English-leaning names.

BTW, as BBW said, we had actually turned *every* place name into English during GWX development...but somewhere along the way the changes were lost. Oh well, I'm sure BBW would like to do it again. :)
