Did not found anything on the Net. Could anyone help me?!?

I agree, the GWX moon is huuuuge, especially with the new camera.

Ail's hi res moon mod has a small moon option. It's not JSGME compatible, you need to rename the file and put it in the texture folder manually like it says in the readme.

Here ya go: http://s19.quicksharing.com/v/7247302/ail_hi_res_moon_v2.5_mod.rar.html (http://s19.quicksharing.com/v/7247302/ail_hi_res_moon_v2.5_mod.rar.html)

Apropos the moon...

I noticed a star inside the crescent of the moon the other day, which is of course a physical impossibility. I'm going to see if it's possible to make the moon opaque.

I hate the enormous moon as well, I used to have ails smaller moon and it's great, but when the 16k atmospheric mod was first released I came under the impression that this moon wasn't compatible with it. Does anyone know for sure?

You mean to say you don't have plans for the moon to be viewable through the middle of your ballons  :damn:

Just open scene.dat with minitweaker, and select SkyObjRadius in the pulldown menu, and change the moon radius there.

I guess that this approach isn't correct Ref. That radius refer to the sky radius position for each astro not the astro radius itself: the moon comes first , then the sun and for last the stars. The size of the moon (or the sun) is really related with it's tga.;)

Where is the Moon.tga located?:hmm:

And I assume you could place any graphic there and have it replace the moon?;)

That's no moon that's a .........:rotfl:

Well if its the tga, the small moon in the link I posted above works fine.

You're right, I've misinterpreted the data

The correct size is the same that the sun. :yep:

both have the same radius in astronomy, about 30 minutes .

which is why eclipses happen to work so nicely.

Have anyone gotten this to work? There are no textures at all in the tex folder, and putting the new moon.tga in there doesn't seem to replace the GWX moon.

Yes, I agree, the moon is bigger in GWX than it should be. However, I have a more serious problem with it: in my game I noticed that the moon doesn't change its phase! It has been reversed "D" shape (so in theory it's waning) for a week or so. What's more the last time I checked it rose just about the same time as the sun set and it still had this reversed "D" shape while it should have been a full moon then.

Anyone else has this issue too?

I have GWX installed with some other minorl mods (but none of these have nothing to do with the moon).

I actually like the moon in GWX, and I am wondering if I could put the GWX moon in WAC 2.0. And if so, what files are they so I could put them in JSGME. So far, the GWX moon is the most realistic moon I've seen so far.

The moon TGA file resides within the scene.dat itself. All you need to do to change it is to extract it and replace it with your desired moon tga from elsewhere.

IF you replace the entire scene dat file with one from elsewhere... you will probably inadvertantly remove the reflection of the moon on the water and other undesireable effects.

AIL's Small Moon should work in the Tex.normal folder. I don't know why it isn't working now.

I was going to recommend U-boot.Realsimulation, but it seems they no longer have all the older mods. I won't be recommending them for anything again.

If I ever get my computer back I'll be glad to put up all that stuff, but it doesn't look like that's happening anytime soon. Too bad, because AILAntic made some of the best early mods.

And yes, the small moon mod works great with 16km visibility.

Please mark another vote for the GWX team to fix this.

Everytime I see that giant moon I wonder what planet I'm on...

Do you use GWX? Like Lehmann said apparently the moon.tga is now in the scene.dat file, and I guess the game reads from that file before the texture folder, but if it works for you then I dunno what's wrong.

Lehmann, how would I go about extracting and replacing the moon.tga file?

I used to have the Dat Extract tool a while back, before I thought I could ever use it. Now that I want to use it, I cannot find it. I think there is one at UBRS, but of course UBRS no longer has Download Central for the time being.

Does anybody have a link to it ?

No, I haven't played anything at all since last July.

Ok that would explain it then. Now if someone with a dat extractor tool who also wants ails small moon could put his scene.dat up for download somewhere i'd be extremely grateful!

And did anyone actually measure the radius of the GWX moon? It can seem to be too large, but if the radius is 30', it's correct. :) I cannot measure it right now, but I'm sure somebody has his game launched and could do that.

Remember, that when staring at moon through binoculars or periscope it should appear much, much bigger than 'normally', when you don't use optics to look at it.

Well, mesure the moon in sh3 could be difficult withouh some reference in the sky.

one good point of comparation is the pleiades open cluster, near Taurus. is a little group of stars

WTF :o .....:hmm: ...I thought we were trying to emulate submarine warfare....not astrology :nope:

Take no mind of me I'm just an overrated/overaged/stressed out submariner trying to help with my countries war effort

Well it's the same thing as if the sun covered the whole horizon, or the sky was green instead of blue. The world around me needs to feel real in order to immerse myself into the game.

Timetraveler made an excellent "smaller moon" mod back when people first started modding for sh3. I still have alot of the older stuff pre-RUB 1.45.

SH3 Moon Mod is a more detailed, colorful, and realistic moon for Silent Hunter
III.

INSTALLING SH3 MOON MOD
--------------------------
Unzip the downloaded file. Copy the Moon.tga file to the
SilentHunterIII\data\Textures\TNormal\tex folder. Run the game.

I hope you have fun with it.

It looks like this:

You can download it here (I set it up to be enabled with JSGME):

Just a quick question Tikigod.....will this affect the reflection on the water surface ? :hmm:

Tikigod
01-27-07, 11:34 AM
Not sure. You will have to ask the "skipper of the month". It doesn't alter replace or change the GWX scene.dat it only places a new texture in your "data\Textures\TNormal\tex" directory which makes the tga a higher priority than the texture with the same name in your .dat file. This only changes the one moon texture. It should not effect whatever is causing the reflection.

How about measuring it with your scope, the same way you do measure the ships radius?
