Go to

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Submarine

and open up the boat folder of your choice

Open the cfg file

Look for
[Properties]
PeriscopeDepth=12;meters
SnorkelDepth=12;meters
CrashDepth=70;meters
MaxDepth=200;meters
SurfaceDepth=8;meters

Change the SurfaceDepth to around 8 m as above and save

That means your boat can run at 8m depth and still be classed as surfaced

Hmm, but I suppose that doesn't make u less visible to AI enemy, right?

It should do as you will leave a smaller " footprint "
That is you will show less of a visible surface area and a lower silhouette

"Decks Awash" would be better if we had the option to run on electrics when surfaced. They usually did it that way; it's quieter and there's less chance of water washing into the intakes.

Yeah would be
You can run decks awash on electric but then the sub is techniacally submerged so no deck crew
All or nothing in this game

IIRC, Hemisent did extensive testing and found out that deck awash do indeed have an effect in detection ranges by the AI.

kewl, it seems to work well enough anyways. with any luck that DD won't spot me until its too late.

Using GW, I run at 6 1/2 - 7m all the time, get decks awash without losing lookouts and without any change to the submarine files. Could not do this in the stock game.

Thank you for this fix.

would it be possible (I think it's not) to add another default position of the sub ?

example :

[Properties]
PeriscopeDepth=12;meters
SnorkelDepth=12;meters
CrashDepth=70;meters
MaxDepth=200;meters
DeckAwashDepth=8;meters
SurfaceDepth=5;meters

Other files should have to be modified:hmm:

my 9b was already set at 8, what gives?

Depends on any mods you have installed whether its already done

I can't say I've done extensive testing, but it does seem to me that, depending upon my approach angle relative to the target's position, that I can get quite a bit closer running deck awash than I can running on the surface.

Another advantage I've found to running deck awash is that it greatly decreases the time it takes to dive. With the IX, instead of taking over 30 seconds I can be submerged in about 10 or so seconds.

The disadvantages to running deck awash, alas, is that it's both a fuel hog, and it decreases your speed. In rough weather and deck awash I've had my flank speed (which is normally around 18 knots or better) drop down as low as 3 -4 knots as I plow through the swells.

Wot AVH said. I've done a bit of testing as well and Decks Awash makes it easy under the right conditions to get as close as 300m before the target spots you. Running under the same conditions (silent, 2kts) on the surface, they will spot you at between 1200 and 900m.

In the IX you can get as much as a 4-6 second head start on your dive times by running decks awash.
