Did you ever notice that you CANNOT hear the flak guns when they are shooting (from the interior) although you can hear the planes?

Ummm we fixed it.

All i can say is, im bored. Im sooo ready for SH4.

Either that or maybe i need to give up campaign games and just play single missioins.

Lately im getting impatient and looking for more action and less waiting around for a ship to blow up that will go down just like the last one, and the one before that, and the one before that and the one before that. You should see the effect of my subs zone.cfg file settings and the DC settings. Equipment damage and flood city. U505 mission is a rollercoaster ride for me now. Up down up down up down. I think the odds of surviving are at least 10 to 1. Its a shame campaign games arent normally that exciting.

We also gave the dolphins sound(s) that you can hear either on hydrophone... or you can hear if you are cheating with the F12 freecam when you get closer to them.

On the same day we corrected their 3D model... no more transparent gaps during movement/animation.

:arrgh!:

Catherine and Katee had a lot of fun with the dolphins.:sunny:

BTW - Love the sig line. I'm assuming you've read the Wilfred Owen poem by the same name.
But of course. Pretty much the only good thing to come out of WW1.

Well, there was "All Quiet on the Western Front." ;)

That Wilfred Owen poem has to be one of the all-time best war poems. Though I also like "Death of the Ball Turrent Gunner" by Randall Jarrell.

Kudos!

Regarding the whole GWX release: I have a very good reason for wanting to see GWX come out ASAP. You see, the missus and I have a second child due December 24th. Our first child, however, came exactly a month early, so we may be looking at a Thanksgiving baby as opposed to a Christmas baby.

It suuuurrrre would be nice to be able to play GWX before the baby arrives (and months of sleep deprivation ensue!).... nudge, nudge... wink, wink.... ;)

You know, I *still* remember studying Dulce et Decorum Est in primary school near 30 years ago. It is perhaps my favourite poem.

Just thinking of it now reminds me of Siegfried Sassoon, Anthem for Doomed Youth and, d'oh, iambic pentameter...

Same here only it was about... oh lemme think... 2 and a half years ago? Maybe? Grade 12 Literature class. I love war poetry just for the very simple, sober approach and the very jagged real imagery. Terrible irony how beautiful poetry comes from the most terrible of wars.

Thanks! No periscopes on either of the offspring. My 2 1/2 year old loves the foam cutlasses I bought her though. If you can imagine a very pretty (not that I'm biased) little girl of about 27 pounds, 34 inches tall brandishing a cutlass almost as long as she is tall, striking a dramatic pose and yelling at the top of her lungs "TA HA!!!" before smacking her old man repeatedly with said weapon, you can imagine why I'm just tickled to have another girl.

In other news... and to tell you how deep much of our research goes into the GWX campaign... a little quote snippet from our documentarian....

"I am also in a process of accessing some data about the movements of the ship in WWII. I have to get permission from the office of Public Relations of the Pentagon. Technically. the ship is still on active status...

Here's a pic. You already have permission. It's from me. If you want to make an appendix with additional pics of ships that cannot fit into the main chapters, here's one."

Whatever the case. We gave some good people something good to look at... a little distraction in all the stress and mess.

We do what we do... for free... and are happy to share every ounce of it with the community when we've knocked it into shape... In so doing, we get to determine our own destiny... Right wrong or indifferent. We mean well.

Whether we are loved or hated... GWX will be remembered. Some flames and arrows will always come your way... simply because you stand there and will not move.

I want everyone to know this too... We had hoped to release GWX two months ago... but we encountered problem after problem... from stone walls in the code... unexpected CTD's, PC hardware breakdowns, theft, and real life illnesses and emergencies.

More than once we had to stop and say, "What were we thinking?"

We never meant to drag things out... It just happens that way with something this big. It RUNS and then it crawls... It RUNS and then it crawls.

Its a good thing in some ways that we are so stubborn... or we'd have made ourselves into the biggest laughing stock at Subsim and have no credibility.

We HATE it as much as you do that you've had to wait so long.

Barring any last-minute disasters... I am uploading the Beta for emplacement into the installer this weekend. After the GWX team has a couple of days to download it... I will open the doors to those I've invited to the beta session. The latter will occur Tuesday or Wednesday... again barring any unforseen problems.

To all who have offered their support and encouragement in public and in private.

Thank you from the entire GWX dev team. You rock!

Damn.... I remember when Kpt started making mods to SHIII. IIRC, he was making them ALOT. Almost everyday he had some new mod released. Then one day (IIRC) he asked what he should do, continue or quit. Modding takes time away from him. I remember quoting that phrase to him as I replied. Heck... it feels like eternity, yet itīs only 1― years from that.

I tried to find that topic one day but didnt find it. Kudos to you sir, itīs been a long walk and look what you are now. The project manager of one of the most anticipated mods released for SHIII.

I just have to add that .. yup, im getting impatient too. Im a bit tired of playing a game where i know how everything works. This is one of the biggest traps of modding your own game. YOU KNOW what to expect, where to expect it, and what you can get away with. With GWX, i dont really know too much on what to expect.

As an aside, i think there should be GWX gaming league similar to WaW. Not as much fun bragging about tonnage (something i never do ) when everyones not on the same page :D

Hey Ducimus
If you are intrested in GWX gaming league?
Check this thread as this something we are trying to sort out. Any imput/help on this would be great.

If you like Medeval TW then you should try the more 'ancient' version of it. Rome Total War (I think the name speaks for itself;) ). There is especially a free mod out there called Rome Total Realism (RTR 6.2) that transforms the game. The level of transformation is (I'm telling my opinion here but I think most people agree) greater than GW and stock SH3:up: . If you like these sort of games it's brilliant.

Obviously now that GWX is comming out I'll hide the swords and look for my spare binoculars:D :D

Now, actually posting a picture of a goat and a young maiden in compromising positions might be against a rule or three, but the word isn't. ;)

From memory, I think the beta testers will only be able to talk about their positive experience with GWX. I'll assume that the Kpt & Dev team won't want all the 'secrets' given away before the 'general public' has a chance to discover them for themselves.

Ummm right... sort of... We want a chance to address negative issues before testers come here to talk about it as if it were a problem... when the whole point is to take GWX for a shake-down cruise.

Certain things that we don't want to show everybody... we will list in the tester forum.

so after all the post's and reading the fourms..gwx will only come with a exe install?...with no way to examine the files before actually installing?..i mean i love gw1.1a ...so this is a take it or leave it and i'm not starting a rant.by no means...hell half the fun of the gw release was building the file to ones own taste..yes i still use the 6 part to reinstall after rebuilds......so ok go ahead and flame me now...it's just my thoughts ..:hmm:

You can always edit it after installation. Shouldn't be too hard. Except, of course, GWX files seem to be heavily inter-dependant, so that editing one might have harmful effects on other files.

I was inder the impression you could simply install the GW mod to the JSGME 'mods' folder and 'install' it that way using the mod enabler... :-?

You can with GW1.1A. Apparently with GWX, you will not be able to. I must say, JSGME is a great little utility, which makes mod activation/deactivation a breeze. I will definitely miss useing it.

Just a thought here: If I deactivate all my mods, includeing GW1.1A via the JSGME, then I should actually end up with the stock version of SH3 correct? Do you think it would be "safe" to install GWX over this, or should I do a comlplete uninstall/reinstall of the game?

You will still be able to use JGSME over the top of GWX.

When GWX is released it should be installed onto a brand new installation of SH3 patched to 1.4b. Our installer will perform several checks to verify that this is the case when you use it. If GWX is not installed over a brand new installation of SH3 patched to 1.4b... it will fail to install and will alert the user.

As usual, the Cosmos conspired to slow things down a bit. Tonight (U.S. Central time) I upload the beta for emplacement into the auto-installer. When that is completed it will be re-uploaded for everybody.

I hope you understand too that I need to give the dev team a couple of days to grab it first so that we are all on the same page when the testing starts.

This last set of problems took about four days total to resolve... which translated into four more days of delay.

Uuugh.. I feel like I haven't slept in two weeks!

Feel free to throw eggs and tomatoes at me again.

Its all okay... because its almost testin' time!!! :smug: :smug: :smug:

Seriously though... I hate it every second that you guys don't have the beta... Time is data!

Hats off to the GWX dev teamers though. Sleep has been scarce for most of them these days. Every last one of them is a wolfpack of total awesomeness!!!

Just a thought here: If I deactivate all my mods, includeing GW1.1A via the JSGME, then I should actually end up with the stock version of SH3 correct? Do you think it would be "safe" to install GWX over this, or should I do a comlplete uninstall/reinstall of the game?
The installer doesn't care how the installation becomes "clean and unmodified". If rolling back SH3Cmdr or disabling mods via JSGME achieves this, then as long as the installation folder passes the installer verification, it doesn't matter.

If verification fails, then the installer has done its job by alerting you *before* you tried to sail to sea. I know I'd rather get an error message when installing GWX than after waiting 5+ minutes for a patrol to load only to then be greeted by my desktop because of some random CTD...

Now having said this, we strongly recommend that players install GWX over a brand new, fresh and patched installation. This way players can be assured of no "leftover" modded files and hence will be providing the most stable platform in which to overlay GWX.

And let's be frank here - it's all about getting GWX to play.

Don't get me wrong, I like JSGME - it was obviously developed by a wonderful, talented and seemingly handsome guy, but using it WILL NOT GET GWX INSTALLED TO A PLAYABLE LEVEL. GWX just makes too many changes to SH3 which even JSGME can't cater for - to support enabling GWX via JSGME would mean manual post-installer installation instructions, which will simply equate to player frustration followed by the inevitable "GWX sux" or "GWX doesn't work" threads. No thanks!

I consider Cdre Gibs to be a friend.

He and I have not agreed on all things ourselves.

I will not help anyone hang him... nor will I stand in the middle of any conflict between Subsim administration or moderatorship and Cdre Gibs.

Pants, and all who think the moderator is at fault,

What kind of forum would you like to have here? One where people constantly troll, snipe, insult and fight with each other? Because without Gizzmoe and the other moderators trying to address these issues, that's the kind of forum this place would be. When someone trolls GW or Kpt Lehmann, how many of you would like Gizz to look the other way? When some people trolled GW recently, you know who was the first person to contact me and mention it? Gizz.

If Gibbs no longer wishes to participate in discussions here, that's his perogative. I'll remove his account. Any posts he has not already screwed up will be left intact. He's not the only person who uses the forum. When a thread involves dozens of people discussing a subject, it really handicaps people reading the thread later when there are gaps in the discussion. It's really hard to understand why a grown man would sit at a keyboard and spend the time to delete his posts, because he has been suspended for a few days. It's too bad there isn't a maturity filter in the forum registration process.
