SILENT HUNTER III
The latest, greatest subsim & stuff to make it
even better!
UPDATE 4/22/05
The increased forum traffic generated by the popularity of SH3 and the growing collection of downloads brought the server to capacity earlier this week. The datacenter is staging an additional server to host the downloads and we expect that to be online shortly. Once it is running, Downloads will resume normally. Thanks for your patience.
The SH3 section has been disabled;
currently Subsim has reached its 1000 GB limit for Downloads for
the month of April 2005.

Patches
SH3 v1.2 US DVD Patch
This US DVD patch is for those people who have installed Silent
Hunter III from a US purchased DVD. Please ensure you install the
relevant patch for your version of the game. For other
versions, visit the
Official SH3 downloads page.
New patches modify game data and in some cases, the saves that are
made while in missions will not load properly. We highly
recommend, before installing a patch, that “all the Captains
should return to bases” or to load a previous in base save (after
install) in order to avoid possible problems.
The version of the multiplayer game has been labeled as 1.2 and it
is incompatible with previous versions (i.e. 1.0 or 1.1). Please
ensure you only play against people who have the same version of
game as you, as this will stop any problems or getting the message
"Wrong game version" when attempting to play multiplayer games.
As
with any patch, it is very likely to overwrite any mods you have
installed. If you have made changes to any config files, you will
most likely need to uninstall SH3 and reinstall before applying the
v1.2 patch. Saved games are retained, screenshots are not. Decide
for yourself what and how to back up.

PACIFIC
ACES FOR SILENT HUNTER 2
The total conversion from
U-boats in the Atlantic to US Silent Service in the Pacific
The Sub models have
been meticulously reskinned to represent the American fleet class subs,
including the Tambor, Gato, Balao, and Perch models. Visually, the hulls and
conning tower structures are quite a departure from Doenitz’s German subs. It’s
funny but when you think about it, the only difference between a German sub and
a US sub on a computer screen is few more pixels here, a few less there.
However, seeing is believing and when you see the Pacific Aces artwork, you
believe you’re at sea with the US Navy. And the differences are more than skin
deep; each sub class has its own diving and sailing characteristics and weapons
loadouts. To top it off, the PA conversion includes the rain and water mod so
your new subs sail in superior seas. Random patrol zones. Random convoys. Even
random weather!

KAMPAIGN FOR SILENT HUNTER 2 v1
by Hitman, installer by McBeck
A new campaign for SH2 with emphasis on randomly generated elements!
1) Random patrol zone
assignment: Each time you start a mission, the game will tell you a different
area to patrol. Due to the game's engine limitation, it will choose only from
three different.
2) Random convoys composition: All the convoys programmed to appear will not
always be the same. The game will randomly choose between three different on
each mission, and sometimes even more. For each year of the War the possible
convoys are different, ( And accurate to the period ) though sometimes the ones
from the stock game's mission generator are used, so that those may be familiar
to you. All in all, there are 50 different, so I hope you will get enough
variation. Doing different convoys for each programmed group would mean a total
of 180! So if you would like to see some more of the already existing ones, just
begin programming. I would love to see people in the community create a patch
for this campaign ;^)
3) Random convoy routes: The convoys will not always start at the same place,
nor take the same routes, They will instead sail all around randomly, more or
less near you ( The more advanced the war, the less possibilities of finding
them you'll have )
4) Random merchants and columns: Same as airplanes do appear in the game, lone
merchants and small columns of a maximum three ships may appear near you,
randomly. Of course, in late periods they will not longer be there, because
ships grouped historically in convoys, leaving the old method of sailing
independently.
5) Carrier Air cover: Carriers in the campaign have in later periods airbases
attached to them. If you get close to the carrier and are detected, an aircraft
will spawn to attack you.

Fletcher's Enhancement Mod v2.1
This mod changes hundreds of files in Silent Hunter
2. The following lists just a few of these changes:
* All of the game's default single Scenarios and all
Campaign scenarios have been improved by adding RoE (Rules of Engagement) for
all ships, submarines, aircraft, and gun turrets. Included are the two fixed
campaign scenarios: "2BSubhunt" and "8Bfestung".
* Added random elements to all of the default campaign missions. This involved
adding random merchant, warship, and aircraft encounters to each scenario. Some
objectives were also changed, or additional objectives were added, to a few
campaign scenarios.
* Added all NEW changing weather fronts for all campaign scenarios and single
scenarios.
* The player will now have the opportunity to sail
in 9 different U-boats as he progresses throughout the course of the campaign.
The new U-boat types have been added to the mission briefings.
* The version 2.0 campaign and single scenarios are now compatible with
Seeadler's graphic mods: Sun, Sky, and Land mods.
* Created a campaign mission saved game feature. Now you will be able to save
your campaign missions at any time you wish and then play them again when you
want.
* New Contact ID Mod. When a surface or air contact becomes visible on the map,
you will only see a generic grey icon. No other information will be available to
you. Greater emphasis has been placed on your sound man, as it was historically.
This will incorporate changed icons, changed sound files, changed messages (for
several stations), etc and should provide for more realistic gameplay and
challenge.

SH2-DC INTEROP v1.1 PATCH
- by Ubi-Soft/Ultimation. Adds multiplayer, mods
ship characteristics, and improves AI. Also makes SH2 compatible with
Windows XP.
-
MULTIPLAYER SUPPORT
The primary purpose of this patch is to introduce multiplayer support to
Silent Hunter II. This includes the following features:
- Added support for multiplayer with other SH2 users.
- Added support for multiplayer with DC users.
- Added support for the ubi.com matchmaking service.
- Clients that lose connection will now automatically attempt to
reconnect to the server. Note that if the server has to recreate the unit
for a reconnected client, it may pause the game momentarily.
- FIXES
- Fixed problem with interface file corruption on some Windows 2000 and
XP systems.
- Fixed intermittent crash in damage control station on Windows 2000 and
XP systems
- Fixed problem involving the "spawning" of surface ships in scenarios.
This fixes a crash in the "Fortress Europe" mission.
- Moved storage of interface textures from system memory to video
memory. This fixes an occasional game slowdown or crash on certain
combinations of Windows 95/98/ME systems and Nvidia video cards.
- Fixed a crash that occurred when many simultaneous sound effects were
played on certain Win98/ME systems with Soundblaster Live! or Audigy
soundcards.
- Fixed intermittent crash caused when aircraft targeted while the AI is
manning the deck gun. Additionally, the deck gun will now no longer fire
at aircraft when "Man the deck gun" is selected.
- Fixed a bug in the Vehicle Viewer that caused a crash on exit on some
systems.
- ENHANCEMENTS AND CHANGES
- AI ships will now undertake strenuous efforts to avoid running
aground.

collide, they will work to extricate themselves.
- AI ships are better about returning to their normal waypoints after
engaging in a fight.
- Sonar contacts are now more difficult for enemy ships to re-acquire
after they lose initial contact.
- Enemy depth charge attacks are now somewhat less accurate.
- Enemy aircraft will now initiate attacks against submarines spotted at
periscope depth.
- AI task forces and convoys will now detach the closest (instead of the
next group in order) ASW subgroup to chase subs.
- If a pursuing ASW subgroup is destroyed, another ASW subgroup will be
detached.
- The water's surface is now displayed with both animated "chop" and an
additional subsurface layer.
- The depth gauge's gradations have been recalibrated and the artwork
refined.
- The Red/Green halves of TDC dials denoting port and starboard were
reversed (they are now correct).
- Spelling of "Tiefenmesser" corrected on sliding navigation panel.
- "Spawned" surface ships now emit smoke from their stacks.
- German 1936 type destroyers now emit smoke from their stacks.
- Auxiliary cruisers now use a more appropriate 3D model.
- "Man AA guns" sound effect is now more appropriate.
- Sped up diving times for subs (30%-60%)
- Reduced threshold speed below which compressed air is consumed for
normal depth changes (~2kts vs ~4kts)
- If a pursuing ASW subgroup is destroyed, another ASW subgroup will be
detached.
- Air-dropped depth charges explode at 25ft vs 50ft depth (be careful).
- Updated crush depth and AA gun descriptions info for U-boats in the
Vehicle viewer to reflect what is modeled in the game and to be consistent
with Destroyer Command.
- Numerous (generally minor) changes to data files and 3D models to make
SH2 and DC have matching data.
- SCENARIO-SPECIFIC CHANGES
- "Matchlight" mission now contains enough enemy merchant shipping to
make its secondary objective completable.
- "Auxiliary Cruiser" mission has had significant changes made to unit
dispositions, and had its briefing updated.
- "Western Approaches" no longer has a British task force running
aground on a small island.
- "Fortress Europe" now features extensive enemy air cover.
- In "Drumbeat," "Blitzkrieg," and "Fortress Europe," tonnage credit for
sunk merchants will no longer disappear after several days of playing.
SUBSIM Review SH2
Second Kampagne
PART I consists of 14 missions, from the North Sea, to the Atlantic, to
the Caribbean. The Second Kampagne is designed to take advantage of some
of the wonderful features Ultimation built into SHII, such as U-boat pens,
varying levels of ship inclusion probability, and shadowing objectives.
Missions begin closer to port than any WWII subsim you ever played, with
specific tasking orders and an assigned patrol zones. You will often be
escorted to sea by a German patrol craft and you may catch
Thomsen
returning from patrol. Player will encounter a variety of foes and not all
are correctly identified on the map. Includes variable ship routines,
historical accuracy, multiple patrol zones, blistering radio traffic, and
tenacious foes. Great convoy battles. 20 day patrols.

Silent Hunter II Realism
Pack v1.4 - Many of the
Subsim 1.3 Realism Pack features were added to the Ubisoft OFFICIAL SH2 v1.1
patch, tested exclusively by Subsim.com. The new Subsim Realism Pack v1.4
leaves the patch improvements "as is" and tweaks a few elements that the
v1.1 patch
intentionally left out.
Upgrades to enhance SHII realism: - Turn rates
for Destroyer Escorts have been modified so that the Flower class DE's not
longer outturn the u-boats. Although the Type IX and Type XXI boats now turn
a little faster than the smaller DE's, the turn rates are very similar. All
Type VII and Type IX boats equipped with snorkel will not have a deck gun
any more. This was common practice from 1943 till the end of the war. Only
few commanders were allowed to keep the deck gun. On occasion the removal of
the gun resulted in better streamlining properties making the boats a little
faster. Therefore all boats with snorkel can go up 0.6kn faster than their
counterparts with deck gun. Also the endurance of the E-motors has been
slightly elevated. [The deck gun will still be visible in external view but
you will not be able to access it.]

Convoy Mod
2.0 - This project focuses on the convoy
missions that can be created in the single mission section. So far even the
"large" convoys have been pretty small, and very heavily escorted. In addition
they all use about the same two types of ships. So we created two special ship
sets, one for fast and one for slow convoys, that feature all major types of
cargo ships. Then we adjusted the convoy size for medium and large convoys,
and reduced the convoy escorts early in the war. In addition I added an escort
carrier to the late war large convoy scenario that may even feature aircraft
in future releases. Beware of clear skies. The escorts still have a
pretty good eye-sight. This version only adapts the add on units of version
1.0 to make them identical to the ones in the Silent Hunter patch. Due to
Ultimation's SH2 v1.1 patch the convoy ships now behave a little better. Some
still break formation when attacked, but return faster to their formation, and
don't collide that much anymore. By Woof for Subsim.com.

Silent Hunter 2 Ship Identification Mod
- by Alan Jenkins for Subsim.com.
This modifcation stops the AI crew members
completely identifying other vessels. The
effect of applying this mod is to modify
the 'Visual Sighting' message and the unit
markers on the Chart display. Instead of
displaying the Nationality and Class of a
vessel in these locations, the text will
now show Nationality as 'Un' (for unknown)
and class as 'Vessel' regardless of the
actual parameters. For aircraft, again the
nationality will show 'Un' while the class
will be displayed as 'Air'. In effect this
will mean it is necessary for the player to
identify other vessels and aircraft
manually.
Improved Rain Mod - (13kb) The mod adds a dark, grey rain to the

Mission Generator Convoy Mod 1.0 - Focuses on the convoy missions
that can be created in the single mission generator section of Silent Hunter II.
So far even the "large" convoys have been pretty small and very heavily
escorted. In addition they all use about the same two types of ships. So I
created two special ship sets, one for fast and one for slow convoys, that
feature all major types of cargo ships. Then I adjusted the convoy size for
medium and large convoys, and reduced the convoy escorts early in the war. By
Andreas Feilner (Woof1701) for Subsim.com.
German Text correction kit -
Fixed the translation
errors in the German version for SH2. If a depth charge hits you it says usually
"... von Wasserbomben versenkt" which means "sunk by depth charges" and it
should mean "... von Wasserbomben beschädigt", "damaged by depth charges".
Several other things have been fixed, too, the speed dial texts for example and
some spelling errors.
Rain Effect - by UA. Simply go to SIM\SCENARIOS, open
WEATHER.ini and look at [FRONT8] to [FRONT10]. There is a point called
PRECIPITATION, which is actually removed by a ;. Remove the ; and you will see
rain if you choose STORM in the mission-generator (for example).
Vicker's 37mm reticle mod -
removes the green target circle from the 37mm sight. Included in SHII
Realism Pack above
for Subsim.com..
Ship is Breaking up, German file
In the
German translation of the crew comments in Silent Hunter II (USversion)
is an contextual error: The English file FIRST048.WAV ("Ship is sinking,
it's breaking off") should be translated as "Das Schiff geht unter, es
bricht auseinander".Ultimation's actual translation is: "Wir gehen unter,
wir brechenauseinander!" It means: "We are sinking, we're breaking off".
Very confusing for german gamers. Target destroyed and our submarine is
sinking? So I edited some existing WAV files and got a new (and more or
less correctly translated) german FIRST048.WAV now: "Ziel geht unter!"
(It means: "Target is sinking").

ABDA command DC Mission Pack
- Early in 1942 Allied commanders decided to form a unified command
structure for combining allied resistance efforts in the south west pacific.
The command was called ABDA (for American-British-Dutch-Australian). The
short life of ABDA ended when Dutch general Helferich had to surrender to
Japan after the invasion of Java. In the meantime, however, several surface
engagements under ABDA command took place with the 'Battle of Java Sea' as
the most prominent one. All in all, it can be said, that the ABDA campaign
was a disaster. The Allies lost nearly their complete fleet in the south
west pacific without being able to inflict any substantial damage to the
Japanese. The greatest loss to the Japanese occured when a Japanese cruiser
fired a spread of torpedos against the Houston, which all missed but sank 4
Japanese transports instead. There are many reasons for the failure: Poor
communication between the different ABDA nationalities, poor communication
between ABDAfloat and ABDAir, Japanese air supermacy, the superior Japanese
weapon technology at this time and the poor morale of the ABDA troups which
knew that they were in a hopeless position. By Timm Baumeister

SUB COMMAND
Patch 1.08
(English) DOWNLOAD
This setup will update any previous version of Sub Command to 1.08)
Installation: Double-click(Run) the self-extracting patch
executable. Verify and correct the extract path if it is not
correct. Click the Unzip button.
Modifications for Build 1.08
Broadband: Fixed
crash if a tracker was assigned to the Hull array in Narrowband
and then the user switched to Broadband on subs without Hull array
(ssn21, 688i).
- Sound: Cleaned up various sound card related issues
- Sound: Fixed the platform sound distortion that occurred
when panning around a hooked platform in the 3D window.
- Sound: The Options/Sound screen now displays an error
message if Sub Command detects the absence of hardware 3D sound
support in the sound card.
One of two messages may display if there is a problem with the
hardware 3D sound support
1) "Attempt to detect 3D Hardware Sound Buffers failed."
2) "Attempt to support 3D Sound in hardware failed."
If either message appears, the problem may be the sound card does
not have support for hardware-only 3D sound.
If the sound card does have hardware 3D sound support, then verify
that the sound card drivers are up to date.
Sub Command will default to software-only 3D sound in either case
and overall game performance may degrade as a result.
- Fire Control: Fixed UUV not correctly using OS Depth
preset
- Fire Control: Fixed Narrow/Wide preset issue
- TMA: Tracking multiple TMA contacts can be accomplished by
pressing the "Enter Solution" button before selecting another
track from the contact list box. If you leave the TMA screen,
current tracking data for the displayed contact will be available
when the TMA screen is revisited.
- TMA: Fixed crash that involved this screen and usually TMA
autocrew being ON.
- Mission Editor: Wrong entities were being given the Sonobouy
tactic
(Bear J vs. Bear F bug)
- Game: Fixed crash that pertains to missions containing aircraft
with set launch times.
- Game: Towed array now deploys correctly at start of mission
based on scenario file
- Game: Show Linked 3D land objects melting into landscape bug
fixed
- Game: Added a keyboard shortcut to center the Rudder. The
default key is: <'> (single quote character).
It can be reassigned in the Options screen.
- Database: increased max depth of 65 cm torpedo to 1000 ft
- AI: Firing missiles now provokes better response from AI units
- AI: Torpedo evasion for AI platforms is improved
- AI: Contact mines/Influence mines now behave correctly
- Sonar: background noise for masts corrected
- Replay: Added the ability to save a replay to a different
filename

Sub Command Doctrine Language Guide
- The Sub Command Mission Editor contains a powerful feature which is not
documented in the original SC manual: the Doctrine Language. - By TimmyG00
Sub Command Custom Mission Guide for Multiplay Scenarios
When you
join up for a multiplayer game, you don't want to start with the knowledge of
events clearly outlined for you. You don't want to begin a battle knowing
George is north of you and Al is west, the noisy contact is a trawler, and the
Russian DDG will come along in ten minutes. You want to begin with all the
uncertainties of real life preserved in your head. Sonalysts did a great job
engineering a marvelous Mission Editor and program procedures for Sub Command.
With random start boxes, password-protected mission locks, varying degrees of
probability of inclusion, and a myriad of units and environment conditions,
you can script missions that never play the same way twice with relative ease.
The following guidelines will enhance the random elements and fog of
war in Sub Command multiplay missions. They will also assist in ease
of mission creation. The basic concept advocated here is to create a
basic mission, then clone it several times, changing a few things in
each version. They will have identical titles and briefings and
binary file names, so most players will not readily recognize the
mission before it starts. Indeed, if done according to this
guideline, there is a very low recognition factor involved other
than the general area of operations.

Jane's Fleet Command Patch
Win2000 Installer Patch(English)
README This version of the
Windows NT Install Patch is designed to be used with the Classic version
(version 1.2) of Jane's Fleet Command ONLY. It will NOT work properly with the
original retail version of Fleet Command (version 1.0).
Much of the AI is determined by
the language coding in the "DOCTRINES" files in the Fleet Command folder. Many
slick players have begun experimenting with the doctrines files to make planes
engage enemy ships after identifying, prod own ships to fire against incoming
SAMs in self-defense, and other improvements to make the game much more

Fighting Steel in the North
Atlantic
Fighting Steel in the
North Atlantic (FSNA) is a strategic campaign for Fighting Steel.
Similar to the campaign mode of GNBNA, it will
allow to control task forces in the North Atlantic to either attack allied
convoys or to prevent the German task forces to do so.
It is a separate program that will
generate a scenario file for Fighting Steel when two task forces engage for a
battle and launch Fighting Steel to play the battle.
When the battle has ended and Fighting
Steel has been left, FSNA will continue the campaign.

GREAT NAVAL
BATTLES 4 Custom Mission -
Operation Reinubung - Hunt for the Bismarck.
By May 1941, the Kriegsmarine was nearly starving Britain. But yet, Raeder
was right. He had already lost the Panzerschiffe Graf Spee, the cruisers
Blucher, Konigsburg, and Karlshrue, several destroyers, and his only two
Battlecruisers were pinned in at Brest. Thus left only The Hipper, Prinz
Eugen, Lutzow, Scheer, Nuremburg, Koln, Emden, and Leipzig as the heavy
ships, Excluding the turn-of-the-century predreadnoughts Schleiswig Holstein
and Schleisen. But on May 20, the brand new Battleship Bismark set sail for
the Atlantic. The British had no choice but to...Sink the Bismarck!
- Die Andere Z Plan Alternative
By 1935 the German Navy, had worked out a Plan to build a huge Fleet of Battle
ships, Aircraft Carriers, Cruisers and Destroyers. This Plan was Top Secret
and where called the Z Plan. The Z Plan should to be completed until 1948, but
by 1939 the German Army attacked Poland............ the rest is history.
