Official Ubi-Soft Silent Hunter II v1.1 Interop patch
Official Ubi-Soft Destroyer Command v1.1 Interop patchLIKE WHAT WE ARE DOING? SAY YES HERE.
Instructions: We strongly suggest a clean install of Silent Hunter II and Destroyer Command and application of the official Ubi-Soft Interop patches before applying these upgrades.
Uninstall existing versions of SH2/DC
Install new versions of SH2/DC
Apply Official Interop patch v1.1: SH2 v1.1 | Destroyer Command v1.1
Apply Projekt Messerwetzer upgrade
Test and play the games.
After PM performance is found satisfactory, apply other mods and add-ons as desired
The reason is we have tested and found the PM upgrades work as expected with fresh installs and the v1.1 patched games; due to the many and differing mods and add-ons, we cannot provide quality tech support unless you are running the game in the same environment as we built Projekt Messerwetzer in.
Once you have installed PM on a fresh copy of SH2/DC with only the Interop patch v1.1 and only after you are satisfied with the performance do we recommend adding other mods and upgrades. This way you know the PM upgrade worked in an original configuration. If you install a mod that will not work with PM, let us know in the SUBSIM.COM Radio Room SH2 forum.
When you select the MP Mission as host, you MUST DOUBLE CLICK the mission or you will only see one side (axis or allies). If you forgot to double click on it, back up a couple of screens and try it again...it should work just fine.
This version of Projekt Messerwetzer contains all the feature mods (silent running, resupply, manual dive plane control, etc.) of the earlier versions of PM. This is the ONLY version you need. Be sure to use the English version for the English version of the game, and the German version for the European German version of the game. Be sure to read the README files carefully before asking for help.
Known Issues:
Sonar station not active; hit F11 then F7
Subs sometimes don't hear nearby DD's active pinging; will be addressed in future release.

Silent Hunter II and Destroyer Command are very ambitious simulations that many players find enjoyable. Due to corporate mergers, time and budget constraints, and other external factors (rTime), the multiplayer aspect does not provide a stable game environment for routine battles. Subsim Review and Ubi-Soft are working to convert SH2/DC from the original MP engine (rTime) to Microsoft DirectPlay.
From Carl Norman, Ubi-soft:
Silent Hunter II/Destroyer Command To Receive Multiplayer Modification
Upgrade
Subsim.com has been authorized by Ubi Soft Entertainment to modify the Silent
Hunter II and Destroyer Command (SH2/DC) naval warfare simulation products. The
modifications include the substitution of the current RTime multiplayer engine
with the Microsoft DirectPlay engine.
Duane Doutel of Doutel Software Services, LLC, a consultant with 25 years experience in programming and a specialist in Microsoft Windows development, has begun building a DirectPlay engine to be integrated into the SH/DC code. The goal is to provide an 8 player setting providing for more stability and reliability. The secondary goal is to add tampered-file detection and anti-cheat elements to ensure fair play between participants.
In keeping with the German flavor of Silent Hunter II, the upgrade has been titled "Projekt Messerwetzer". A Messerwetzer's job is to sharpen knives. Subsim.com believes Silent Hunter II is a strong, capable simulation that requires a modified multiplayer engine to provide for a more stable and reliable multiplayer environment. Increasing the multiplayer capability will rekindle player interest in both products.
Although not an official patch,
this project has been sanctioned by Ubi Soft Entertainment and is being
coordinated with staff members of Ubi Soft Entertainment’s development group.
While supportive of this modification project, Ubi Soft Entertainment is not
responsible for providing technical or customer support services to modified
versions of the products. Projekt Messerwetzer art by Torplexed Return to SUBSIM
