Default The head of the British Army “catastophic consequences for British society “

The head of the British Army warns of “catastophic consequences for British society”

He warns that a "moral and spiritual vacuum" has opened up in British society, which is allowing Muslim extremists to undermine "our accepted way of life."

The Chief of the General Staff believes that Christian values are under threat in Britain and that continuing to fight in Iraq will only make the situation worse.

"Our society has always been embedded in Christian values; once you have pulled the anchor up there is a danger that our society moves with the prevailing wind."

He was "outraged" by reports of injured soldiers recouperating in hospital alongside civilians being confronted by MUSLIM anti-war campaigners who told them to remove their uniforms.

He gave Defence Secretary Des Browne a dressing down about the "unaccepatble" treatment of injured soldiers, warning him that the government was in danger of breaking the "covenant" between a nation and its Army and should not "let the Army down."

Muslims in the UK, use our country as a launching pad for Mass murder plots around the world. It is only our Muslims active in creating mass murder on others. They divide our society and now, the top British General is informing us, what we all ready know. They are ripping our society apart.

Are we heading for Civil war ?

What Narcosis says, maybe is not so relevant, or it is. What that general says is what you should listen to. I found that article (linked at the end of the posting) very reasonable, and that general quite courageous - he is playing with his career, I could imagine.

I have no problem with the news story, I've been watching it on the news over here all evening. It'll be interesting to see the military/government reaction to it and how quickly they distance themselves from him. However, readers not from the UK should take articles from the Dail Mail with a pinch of salt, they're a standing joke over here for printing sensationalist stories.

sadly the British Public has never recovered from the defeat of the Miners..and i suspect just doesn't care anymore..the goverment of the time right or wrong broke the peoples spirit...it doesn't matter who was right it doesn't matter who was wrong..it doesn't matter that it was probably neccesary...it doesn't matter...and that's just it...it doesn't matter...if this was 1975 there would be riots in the streets...but this is 2006 and it doesn't matter anymore... no one cares...but sooner or later some one some where will start to care again...and when the people start to care all hell breaks loose...ye gawds i have absolutely no idea what i'm ranting on about..which is use-full..

I don't find that piece very interesting/courageous. The application of a religious dimension to an army and to a country bugs me.
Quote:
We are in a Muslim country and Muslims' views of foreigners in their country are quite clear. "As a foreigner, you can be welcomed by being invited into a country, but we weren't invited, certainly by those in Iraq at the time. Let's face it, the military campaign we fought in 2003 effectively kicked the door in.
Is his point here that Muslim countries do not like to be invaded? Why is it a Muslim trait, General?

"Let's face it" - listen General, no-one is pretending that the Iraq war was/is softly wrapped in pink tissues. The Mail doesnt help by framing the article with words such as "honesty", all in this "let's face it" vein. Saying that you are telling the truth does not equate to truth.

Quote:
"When I see the Islamist threat I hope it doesn't make undue progress because there is a moral and spiritual vacuum in this country. Our society has always been embedded in Christian values; once you have pulled the anchor up there is a danger that our society moves with the prevailing wind. "There is an element of the moral compass spinning. I am responsible for the Army, to make sure that its moral compass is well aligned and that we live by what we believe in.
This is weird thinking. The General feels there is a vacuum because the structure of an Army (very different to a society's structure) assumes that morals (orders?) come from the top. This is not the way a society works. Trying to inculcate morality and virtue in a society does not work, people are complex. Stupid, but complex.

Quote:
The General is a practising Christian and this informs his views on the Army's role and place in society. He believes our weak values have allowed the predatory Islamist vision to take hold.
What? Values that are weak to him. I imagine he uses words such as "bulwark" and "ramparts" when talking about morals

BBC covers it now, too: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6046332.stm

At the same time, this:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/5387168.stm

Quote:

The paper said: "The war in Iraq...has acted as a recruiting sergeant for extremists across the Muslim world.

"Iraq has served to radicalise an already disillusioned youth and al-Qaeda has given them the will, intent, purpose and ideology to act."

On Afghanistan, the paper said the UK went in "with its eyes closed". The report also reveals that a secret deal to extricate UK troops from Iraq so they could focus on Afghanistan failed when British military leaders were over-ruled.

Curious.

Is this Daily Mail story accurate or fiction? :hmm:

They tend to put a hell of a lot of spin on stories and put a lot of emphasis on the extreme or sensationalist aspects - 'House Prices set to plummet', 'Immigration on the increase', 'Bird flu found in UK' etc.

I can't comment on their accuracy - they're probably no worse than any other paper.

It would seem one of the General's soldiers does not paint the same picture as his former boss.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/e...et/4770954.stm

"They actually really like the British and it's just a handful of idiots making trouble. You are never going to get the whole country in support."

"The people are more angry about us leaving them in 1992. Nearly every person I met had lost someone to Saddam's regime and you could see the fear in their eyes about that time."

It was not all love and kisses tho. The Americans seem to be hated more than the Brits.

"The Iraqis I met liked the British but they do hate the Americans."

Well it's accurate but or so spiced up and if it wasn't for the national press showing up this PC Madness we would all except it as the norm.

Back on the article the teacher clearly over reacted or was obeying the guide lines they have to follow, never the less this should not had gone as far as calling the police out and locking up the girl in question for three hours. So even the police had over reacted or obeying there guide lines, anyway it was handled very badly by the school and the police.

You bore me.
For some one who to claims he works for the MOD (your Profile). You need to keep in touch with your masters.
It explains why i and others who actually serve in the military, are being led by failures who are not in touch with 90% of those serving abroad.

If you think the Head of the ARMY is making inflammatory remarks. As they are his remarks not mine.

Please resign from your job and save some ones life on the front life.

If i bore you, why visit my topics You silly little "Brown Hatter"
