Default My ugly NVIDIA sun - any idea how to fix.....

I don't remember with my old Radeon 9700, but now I have
GeForce 7800 GTX, and..........first - I saw screenshots with
beautifull sun with blurry edges, my sun is very ugly, always with
hard edges, just like circle, and this is stock game sun.

I checked every important option in graphic card settings (I'm experienced user) - the same.
I have newest drivers of course......

- GeForce is reason ?

Best Regards

I believe this is related to anti-aliasing. Try turning it off on your video card settings and see what happens.

Yup.

yea, let there be jagged edges and all manner of repugnant fittings, that you be able to see the sun with no AA.

hehe, latest nvidia drivers (81.98 or somesuch) and still I get a button in the sky for a sun what would I rather have? nice AA on most of my textures or a propper sun glare effect?
I went for the 4xAA and the button in the sky... hey ho

I have a 6600GT card and have no problems with the sun not having its glare effect with AA on.

Ever since I started running in 1280x960 using the method found here..
http://www.communitymanuals.com/shii...lay_Resolution

I can run SH3 with 2x AA and still have the sun glare show up.Not sure what may have allowed the glare to be working but it is for me.

I was using diver version 81.89 but now am running beta 82.12's.

Thanks to all of You, I love this community!
I will check it (at home) without AA, but I like AA (x8)

Strange, I don't think this is bound with resolution, but,
nothing like the sun, everything is possible

Any other (than AA off) ideas are welcome :-)

Best Regards

Its s problem with the Nvidia drivers, ATI cards are fine so I hear. It's just Nvidia cards.

All you can do is keep trying different driver versions, older ones... roll them back and see if you get the sun glow to show up with an older set of drivers. Use Driver Cleaner Pro to remove you current Nvidia drivers and just keep trying different ones untill it works.

Make sure you have the bloom effect all the way down/off, use control page down to turn it off, while this is on, the sun probably won't shine.

There is no fix for this, apart from what I have said above.

The drivers I am using are 61.77 and I get a sun glow with them. Make sure Antialiasing is turned off in you Nvidia settings.

Thank You Nvidia very much

QUESTION FOR MODMAKERS

Just hope

It is possible to change sun "halo" effect in any .tga file
to fix "no sun glare/glow for Nvidia with Antialiasing ON" ?
Sky, water, clouds are now much better than in stock game
because of mods. Please modmaker, just try....

A beautifull for Nvidia users

That's shift page up for the bloom effect, not control. My mistake.

And I just tried the new 82.12 beta drivers and now the sun don't even shine when AA is off!!! A step backwards then. No sun glare at all, never ever, period! But thats just for me with my little Fx 55 :(

Yeah thanks Nvidia, you suck!

So, by the way:

ACHTUNG, ATTENTION, UWAGA !!!

Dear NVIDIA card user, PLEASE, ASK NVIDIA SUPPORT

about this issue. Tell about it.
We deserve sun glare with Antialiasing :-)

Do it for Silent Hunter 3, and for Silent Hunter 4 too (probably).

Yer, big shame for Nvidia here

I'm using 6800GT 256mb with 81.98 driver.
Sun glare was there for me with no AA.

What's this 'shift pageup/down' thing?

Seems like all of this driver install/rollback thing can get a bit tedious, especially since installing the latest drivers for my nvidia card I am now experiencing instability with my dual monitors and the 'nview options' right click function. I would seem that certain webpages opened using FireFox crash my second monitor (does it every time with this page: http://snipersparadise.com/index_hq.htm ) - the screen just goes black and I loose all access to programs/shortcuts displayed on that monitor and I can't even tell the window on the taskbar to send to primary display thingy with nview options; also my nview desktop manager seems to randomly disable itself on occasion when I remedie this by re-enabling it I end up with multiple nview options flyouts on my right click menu. This also causes high cpu usage 100% hanging my machine, but since my window$ task manager appears on my second monitor it's kind of difficult to see what's doing what in the process list.
Really annoying this... can only be fixed by a reboot
I'm fairly sure this is the new driver being screwy- I uininstalled the previous display drivers correctly- as I never had this trouble with my previous drivers: 77.30.
C'mon nvidia, don't fumble the ball...

Same here, I used SH3 in 1280x1024 on a TFT with a 6600GT, 6800Ultra and now with a 7800GTX and never had a problem with the sun glare, it's also visible with 2x,4x,8x AA hard settings in the driver.

But I always tweak the drivers with coolbits to gain access to the hidden functions of the ForceWare drivers
