German submarine fleet complete
U36, a Type-212, has been named today in a ceremony at HDW shipyard. It's the sixth and last boat of this type planned for the German navy.
Only English link so far: http://www.noodls.com/view/7714F4733...1593F4B6DE887F Meanwhile, the German defense ministry made fools of itself - at the cost of the tax payer - by having to stop the planned Euro Hawk project. The drone, an earlier US design beefed up with European onboard electronics and recce equipment, would not be certified for unlimited flight operation by European authorities due to lacking documentation, amongst others. One had pushed the project nevertheless and wasted money in hope of that documentation materialising all by itself, out of nowhere, despite the known fact that US defense contractors are extremely hesitent to share technical data and blueprints for their systems that nevertheless would have been needed for the certification process, German media report. The amount of money being lost, varies widely, according to the newspaper report you look into: from 250 million to 1 billion I have seen everything mentioned in the past two days. This is just one English link. http://www.thelocal.de/national/20130515-49719.html It is expected that a follow-up order now would be given to EADS/Cassidian.

So you guys finally get your full u-boot fleet completely built. Kinda late isn't it? I mean Donitz put the work order in 1935ish .
....but only six boats? I think Donitz needs a few more boats than that.

So do we need to tap the US for some destroyers?

I don't know what you mean. In other news Dover and the Channel are closed with everything diverted to Liverpool. I wonder what that is about?

We could probably find a few Clemson Class for you. Actually, you'll probably have to buy them from Russia, as they don't throw anything away. A little duct tape and coat of paint! viola! good as new!

Okay. We take them for breakfast, or a small snack in-between. Tankers for lunch, and then the merchants for dinner.

Fleet of six? No wonder you guys can afford to keep bailing out those slacker euro welfare states.

It has a range of 8,000 nautical miles (14,800 km, or 9,196 miles). 3 weeks without snorkelling, 12 weeks overall. More than capable to reach New York (for example). Distance from Berlin to New York is 3978 miles or 3457 nautical mile. Plenty of juice to make it there and back. |
