Quite rude to leech on someones else internet.

reason my router's WiFi is encrypted so only the PC's in the house can use it.

A techie from my ISP not so long ago offered me an 'illegal' connection to get me faster connection without paying.

Is that even possible?! I mean they monitor every connection right?

I refused flatout of course.\ but wonder am I being cheated by these illegal users indirectly?

If they offered you an illegal connection then its time to change ISP and I don't mean move to the illegal one. Probably where your connection problems are coming from, they're not telling you the full story.

Bets on whether or not the owners of that AP learned their lesson?

[EDIT]

Open APs are best avoided anyway. Security risk.

Anyone whom leaves their router unsecured is pretty much saying 'take advantage of me'.

There is one here in my neighborhood and I shake my head every time I see it is wide open

That, or in some cases taking advantage of oblivious leeches. I don't even know if public hotspots are safe from the latter.

My neighbour was using someone else's wireless for a long time. He really doesn't know anything about PC's so he just though that he had free internet on his laptop.

Yeah the problem of corrupt employees. The problem is on the paper none offers better package than this one.

I'll see if I can find a better if not as good alternative. I always prefer cable than wireless connection and the only other viable internet providers are through wireless phone company. The problem is I don't trust them even worse as internet is not their primary business. Sure the connection would probably be great as long as the users remain low enough but I'm questioning the companies commitment as an ISP in general.

I've seen some of what I would call bastardly internet service in which the customers pay twice the amount I'm paying atm but getting lower than a dial up connection in RL or that the wireless 3G connection that would stop working after a few months subscribing. The company is huge too one of the prime telecommunication company in the country(Telekom). I would rather wait until Christ second coming than to subscribe to this kind of ISP.

Anyway I woke up at 3 this morning and Youtubing is smooth and it was smooth too beyond 5PM yesterday. Getting 1.5Mbps downloading a 200Mb ArmA 2 ACE mod update around 4 this morning. I'll see if it will hold up beyond 10AM .

That's worth a polite chuckle. Reminds me of my first laptop, which was preloaded with Netscape, and all the hours I spent plugging the phone line into it and trying to connect to the internet through the browser. It hadn't occurred to me yet then that internet browsers were not magical things and that I would need an ISP account to surf the web.
