Default The best Silent Hunter for mods.

I vote Silent Hunter 4 to be the best out of the silent hunter series for mods.

Why?

1. You can play as either side with the uboat expansion.
2. The graphics are far better than SH3 and comparable to SH5.
3. Instant death screen from compartment destruction is removed.
4. Torpedo bombers work.
5. Controllable AI units. Currently only as Axis.
6. Sailor abilities not implemented in SH3.
7. Missions such as dropping off cargo and doing reconnaissance.

Remember, I'm mentioning the games stock features for ease of modifications.

Tell me your favorite Silent Hunter engine and list why.

Silent Hunter 4,

1. Familiar system from SH3
2. UPC system makes it easier to make new playable units, and campaigns, and all sorts of other things that makes it really accessible to modders like me
3. shorter loading times

short list but 2 and 3 really are the biggest for me, I once waited almost an hour to try something new in SH3 and it ctd'd, it's much faster for SH4, and I can test my mods before I release them.

Hmmm, interesting, if not provocative poll.

I abstain.

Shorter loading times. Yeah I forgot to add that one. SH4 loads faster than SH5 too by far. SH3 took obnoxiously long to load. Even with a computer that dominates the required specs.

All of the above. They are all moddable so one is not better than another.

There are restrictions in each game engine. Such as the 20km atmosphere of SH4, Slow load times and "Instant death" by compartment destruction in SH3. They all have their weaknesses. But which one is most tolerable to you?

Makes no difference except that for several reasons I won't touch SH5. It doesn't deserve my help.

I'm not to picky.
I slum around all of them.

But I don't play any of them.
Just quick test Missions.

I like both SH3, and SH4. Still play both games with the uber mods. At the moment, because of a dodgy internet service, I have to fore-go SH5.

I think SHIII is a better simulator, the level of detail in gameplay is superior to SHIV. However SHIV crew management, load times, graphics and theater options push it in SHIVs favour for me. I think some levels of crudeness in SHIII make it inferior, but this is doubtlessly flavoured by my playing SHIV first so no getting used to these flaws or time to appreciate virtues.

Try modding SH3 or SH5 to be able to play as the US or UK. Good luck! SH5 it's possible but it will take you ages.

Try giving SH4 a atmosphere higher than 20km.

If you were to achieve these they would be considered .exe hacks and therefore banned from the forum. So no... "They're all moddable" does not apply.
