OLC"Gold" mkIIc & mkIId magnifying question

I know this might have already been gone over but I have the OLC"gold"mkIIc & mkIId update and my scope will not magnifying at all it just stays at normal setting.
Everything is working fine but I have to get closer to the target to get my solutions.

Hi. Well, OLC removed the magnification ability from both periscopes. Both periscopes have now a fixed zoom level. If i recall correctly, the observation periscope is fixed to a x16 zoom level and the attack periscope to a x3 zoom level. OLC's opinion was -as far as i can remember - that the observation periscope should be used only for... observation thus the x16 zoom level. As far as the attack periscope is concerned, he had said that the x3 zoom level is a fair choice, not too much and not too less: Not too much, so that the targetting won't be too easy ; not too less so that it won't be impossible for the player to make an attack following realistic procedures. Realistic procedures demand from the player to develop and adopt a realistic strategy for making attacks. This includes getting closer to the target/convoy.
If you don't want this kind of gameplay you can either mod the mod or play the game with another gui mod. For example, i know that makman's mod allows the player to use different (actually 3) zoom levels.

That is the way it was designed by OLC. He considered it neccessary because other magnification settings killed his wave rendering modifications. You'll have to get better at guestimating range yourself with the observation scope, learn to live with uncertain range measurements or rely more often on range/bearing reports of your watch officer.
