Confused about mission...
In career mode, I've been given a mission to patrol South China Sea and now I'm getting a message that says (in addition) something like contact escorts shall take priority.
??? Take out the destroyers first?? |

Remember I got it when I report a convoy sighting. Good luck hope there's not too many of them! |

You will have to take out an escort , or 2 and then mission accomplished should flash in the top left corner,

Ok. thanks gents. Yes, it is stock game. I have been patrolling the S.China Sea and I came upon a large Task Force with 2 carriers, a Fuso Battleship and a Ise Battleship and a handful of cruisers and destroyers. It was dead of night and I have never taken out anything bigger than a large freighter before... so when the force altered course from 10 nm away directly toward me I didn't know what to think.
I thought I must have been detected, but then realized that even the computer AI wouldn't send everyone after a sub, they'd just send out a few cruisers or DDs. Sure enough, I was sitting right in the middle of the bathtub as the behemoths moved through (the escorts were fanned out far too wide to be of any real use) so I waited until they were almost on top of me before I blew my load. I sank one battleship and I think I nailed a few others with my "pray n' spray" spread... I mean they were all so tight I couldn't even miss if I wanted to. Their 70 degree turn towards me caused their formation to knit up so tightly that they couldn't even detect me I suppose. Anyways, I promptly got the hell outta there and radioed in the target and my status. HQ told me that it was a 'nice find' and that they would send resources to intercept and told me to continue or RTB. Having only two aft torpedos left, I am on my way back to base... but I still have the 'patrol' mission incomplete and now an additional one to consider escorts a priority. Actually it said 'contact escorts'... is that something specific? Having sunk the 34000 ton battleship, perhaps HQ thinks I'm wasting my skills on puny Large Modern Composites now? LOL Any other ideas about the contact escorts? Will the mission remain even if it takes me a week or two to RTB and back? |

Yes it will, so long as you only do a refit and head straight back out. You might get other objectives given you in the meantime, but the incomplete ones remain incomplete unless you do them.
But if you elect to "end patrol" you ought to get a nice big fat medal for what you've done anyway. Plus, more importantly, there might be an upgraded radar or something you should be able to afford with your earned reputation points. |
