Default Straight Razors, the best shave you can buy

I got a straight razor today when I visited the local antique shop, being the traditionalist I am.
I just got out of the shower, and just got done shaving my pretty face (mainly just a trim, I like my goatee) and WOW!
considering I got this thing for a couple bucks, thats one amazing shave!

I'm going to take to our little barbershop, with any lucky he wont be busy and maybe he can sharpen it further for me.
Its truly amazing the quality you get from one of these things,
mines made by
Dixie Manufacturing Company
in Union City, GA.
wonderful buy!

theres tutorials online so you don't slit your throat while youre shaving.
which is always a plus

Screw shaving, I prefer the close cut of a flamethrower.

This post got me looking here:

http://www.shopwiki.com/Straight+Razors

I don't think I could trust myself or anyone else for that matter using one

I'm happy with this cowardly implement

I'm way too chicken for a straight razor, plus way too time crunched most mornings.

But I did buy a Merkur safety razor:

Plus a nice badger bristle brush and real save soap...not that drugstore stuff out of a can. The difference is amazing. I pay pennies for replacement blades and no more razor burn! Of course there is a little learning curve, and the first time you use it you'll probably end up looking like you shaved with a chainsaw, but after a couple days you get the hang of it.

I wouldn't go back to shaving any other way!

I love how they keep adding blades to the damn things, I'm waiting for the 10 blade razor that takes most of your face off on the first pass. Personally i prefer single or double edge blades. Any more then that and it will tend to irritate my face.

This was my thought at first a "Gimmic" at best. But I asssure you the mach 3 delivers on its promise. Yes it's that good.

I believe what is good about the Mach 3 has more to do with the design than the three blades

1. The head pivots at one end and not the center. This helps put just the right amount of pressure on the skin to shave the hairs but not shave the skin.

2. The blade component is totally open at the back and this makes cleaning/rinsing of the blades very easy and fast.

In any case, I liked the Mach 3 back when I was beardless.

I have one of this: http://www.smallflower.com/dovo/blac...nch-razor.html

Xmas gift from my mother, since I allways wanted to shave with one of those. Took me a wyle to get used to, but yes, It is (possibly, imo) the best way to have a good shave!

I keep one of these for collection purposes

I just hope I'm never drunk or senile enough to give it a go one day

That's why I prefer disposable razors. That way I can be a cheapskate and a sissy at the same time Just don't buy the very cheapest ones.

I do too, a pack of 10 high quality disposables is less then an 8 pack of replacement blades for a Gillette. I like the Wilkinson ones, they have the little thingy that cleans between the blades for you

I hope that 'little thingy' isn't what some guys often jokingly refer to as something that is so small your wife could pick her teeth with it
