Default Random breakdowns and S boats

I devised some more rules to add spice to our SH4 patrols: In addition to rolling for breakdown after a set period of time, I also added breakdown probabilities for certain actions.

Let me know what you guys think.

After firing torpedoes: 5% chance of torpedo tube breakdown 8% for S boats.

After changing speed from Std to Full or Flank: 3% chance of diesel engine breakdown: 8% for S boats.

If doing a Crash dive: A 5% chance of an uncontrolled dive10% for S boats. : You must maintain the dive for a random amount of seconds. This is wavied if the boat did a trim dive that day.

A penalty for exceeding test depth. For S boats a penalty for exceeding periscope depth: ala War in the Boats.

S boats without air conditioning must leave crew at battlestations for 8 hours a day to simulate added fatigue from the heat.

Penalty for using full rudder.

Feedback welcome.

thanks

How would you implement that? A 5% chance is still a chance, not a surety.

You totally lost me, unless your just saying you would like random realistic breakdowns to happen as they would in real life. I'm afraid most stuff like that is hardwired.

It would be a nice addition to the next series...if one ever comes out.

I thought he meant you have a random number generator or something to make the call. Implementing it would be up to you to follow like time outs.

I think Captain Espo was blessing us with the full luxurious blossom and depth of his sarcastic wit.

LOL - am I right, Mike?

Hmmm. Did'nt mean to confuse. You would roll percentile dice: 2x D10s if an action calls for a random event: i.e. you increased speed from Std to Full. You would then roll the D10s and see if a breakdown occurs.

In a previous post I listed how to handle certain breakdowns.

What about the other subs why cant they have breakdowns?
I like the idea(If this was modded into the game not by me rolling dice and not having an RPG element) the only
thing to me is since the game dose not fully refelect all the things that could be
done with the engines or when you say you wont get the chance of loss of deapth control if you did a trim dive.
SH4 does not allow you to trully control ballasts anyway. I am not sure what your saying here are these game
mods you would like to make or are these things you are "RPGing" in yourself for lack of a better term?

"You would roll percentile dice: 2x D10s if an action calls for a random event" by this
statement I take you are wanting to add an RPG element to SH4 if that is the case
I am not so crazy about that. But maybe others like the idea I suppose we will see.

This is meant to be in addition to previous die-roll rules:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=152051

I like doing it, but most of the time I forget. Part of getting old, I guess.
