Default [REL]Calibrated Gato class interior gauges for SH4 1.5 stock

Someone suggested that I should upload this to FF in case there are other players who use stock SH4 ver 1.5 that might be interested in installing it to their game:

Calibrated Gato class interior gauges for SH4 1.5 stock game with stock textures. Oak Groove's textures will also work. The stock textures are shown in the pdf.

With credit to:
S3D
Ducimus
Mikhayl

The Gato class interior is used by the T-class, Gar class, Gato class & Balao class boats.

Most interior gauges in the Control Room and Conning Tower are calibrated. The Aft Nav station gauges are changed; the Stbd telegraph is moved right to its position and the knotmeter has been placed where the Stbd telegraph was. The Compressed Air gauges work now.

As usual use Shift + F2 to free cam in the Control Room - also, if you pass through the aft wall near the passageway and up you can free cam in the Conning Tower.

Thanks to:
UBI, S3D, Ducimus & Mikhayl (and Mush Martin - for inspiring me to mod)

thank you for this

many players play stock or some type of their own modded versions of the game so stand alone fixes are always greatly appreciated.

does this fix the balao depth guage so it properly reads to 600?

Tough question to answer and explain. No, I decided against it. I really did think about it though:

I have seen interior Balao class pictures that had the 600' gauge and others that had the 450' gauge. At one time I thought they all had the 600' gauge and was surprised to see pictures of the 450' gauge in a Balao.

What complicates it is the other boats that also use the Gato interior - the Tambor class, Gar class & Gato class - could barely reach 450'...... so what to do? I had to make 'a call'.

As you know settings like the MaxDepth= in the NSS_Balao.cfg can be edited to go below 450' and the depths will magically be called out every 20'. Rarely in SH4 have I needed to 'go deep' much below 450' for ASW however.

I do wish the Balao class was a class of its own in SH4 rather than sharing interiors. In real life 'test depth' on the Balao class was 400' but they could reach 600' +. Maybe that's why some had the 450' gauge?

Anyway - that was my thinking.... lol

ok, so if you made the balao guage correctly read to 600 then it would cause the tambor, gar, and gato subs to incorrectly have the 600 guage in their interiors?

hmmm..... :hmm:

Yes, unfortunately they all share the Gato interior in stock SH4. I don't mind - it is a trade-off.

Somebody smarter than me might be able to make a separate Balao interior but I am really new to working with the S3D tool. (it is a fun 'learning experience' ;-)

trouble is, those with the needed talent are usually busy making new ships n things so it might be hard to get someone to make time for it considering its not a major issue for most players because they dont even know about it.

Well the generic Gato interior that the Balao uses now could be copied and the 600' gauge texture changed and calibrated easy enough... the problem would be to get the Balao in SH4 to ask for that new interior instead of the generic Gato interior that it asks for now. Fun ... lol

Edit: Hmmm. Aren't the interiors pointed at by the cfg files for each sub? You should be able to copy an interior fairly easily (famous lat words), they don't need to be unique IDs, as they are never loaded at the same time.

Nisgeis is right, the 4th entry in the Units-section is the pointer.

Thank You very much!

Just one stupid question, can I use it with TMO mod without problems?

Best Regards

Right. Now what about the sim file that calibrates the gauges? What calls NSS_Gato_CR.sim. Oh man, then if it is re-named there is the cam, dsd.... (other files too) .... This is basically cloning an entire submarine interior just to get the 600' gauge in the Balao.

I'm open for any and all ideas - help etc - however.... lol

TMO has this already - and more... (lighting effects and numerous other changes) This mod is for the stock SH4 1.5 only.

Happy Hunting!

The pointer to data/Interior/NSS_Gato/NSS_Gato will need to be changed to data/Interior/NSS_Balao/NSS_Balao and you'll need to copy the NSS_Gato directory and rename it NSS_Balao and all the files inside to Balao instead of Gato. Try that and see if it loads up (after making the change to the cfg file) and see if it crashes. If it doesn't then load the interior up in S3D (the file is will have CT for conning tower and CR for control room) Look for the gauge in 3D, click on the gauge itself, then get its ID and find that ID in the .sim file. That will have a rotary gauge attached to it, that will be set from value of 0 to 150 (as its in meters that's 450 feet) you will need to change it to 200.

I almost fell off my chair....... it worked.

Next is changing the dat to show the 600' dial textures rather than the 450' gauge. My problem with that is I don't have a mouse wheel or a 3rd mouse button to use with S3D. - I'm stuck using a 2 button trackball because of some medical issues that happened years ago.

Because of this trackball limitation, last time Mikhayl helped me move the Aft Nav station Stbd telegraph to the right and show the knotmeter where the Stbd telegraph was using 3dsmax.

In this thread
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=145011
specifically post #17 & #20

Then I imported "load .UVW files" into the Gato dat using S3D. I don't want to edit the dds (the easiest fix) because the dds is used in the Gato interior and the 450' gauge should be in the Tambor, Gar & Gato class boats.

So, anyone want to volunteer to change the 450' textures at the planesman station and Aft Nav station to the 600' gauge while keeping the Aft Nav station telegraph / knotmeter change Mikhayl did (in the above thread I linked)?

Then, editing the CR sim for the 600' gauges is the easy part.

Webster, your (our) wish for 600' gauges in the Balao class may happen yet !!
