Started my career with the Porpoise-Class USS Pike, was offered a new boat, the Gato-Class USS Gato, and now, June 16, 1943, was again offered a new boat, the Balao-Class.... you guessed it, USS Balao.
How come I always get the lead ship of a boat class? ![]() I want it to be different, so where can I change the name of the boat? There's one file I suspect got something to do with it, it's the ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc, but this one still shows SS-212 Gato (I am currently in port), do I have to complete one patrol to change the name?

There is a way,but having been on shore leave for 6 Mo. all I can recall is it must be done in port. I did it once so that I could keep my tower logo correct. Perhaps searching the tower art tread, would give you a clue.LOL mate

go to C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\My Documents\SH4\data\cfg\SaveGames\ find the save game you wish to edit
theres 2 files you need to edit one is Careertrack.upc just open it up with notepad do searches for you boats original name, then change it to you new boats name, the other is ActiveUserPlayerUnits.UPC ActiveUserPlayerUnits.UPC looks alittle like this [UserPlayerUnit 1] ID=Porpoise NameDisplayable=Porpoise UnitName=USS Perch <<< rename the sub here. ex: USS SupremeSubwithcheese theres another folder called UPCInitial open this and you'll find files of the same name change these also if you dont have a UPCInitial folder in the saved game folder don't worry about it your done I recommend setting these files to read-only because SH4 has a habbit of undoing your changes. once you save ingame you don't have to worry about renaming it again. unless you make a new career. Thanks Matilda (btw I didn't know of the other forum you linked to), works great, all shows the new boat name, except on the received radio messages, top reads Cabrilla, bottom still Balao, but I can live with this minor glitch.

I know that this info was listed on this forum, however this was the most complete explanation I had seen on how to do a sub name change. And since I didn't come up with the info originally, but read it in a forum ,I wanted to ref the link I got the info from. Glad I could help. I've been able to make my gameplay an enjoyable experience mostly because of info I found on this forum. I look forward to espeaking with you again in the future.
