[REL] Spax's German Speech Sound Fix

The other thread was nearing 100 posts, the link was getting buried so i started a new thread here...

German Speech Sound Fix for Silent Hunter IV U-Boat Add on V1.5

Version Eight
June 5 2008

Replaces v7 completely, beefed up to 178 meg.

This version includes all the changes in v7 but adds/adjusts...

- modified the "blow ballast" voice to exclude the nasty hissing sound but still includes the better 'air release sound' effect

- blow ballast voice tone now adjusted to meet the current tone of the active crew members under all conditions.

- reduced over-modulation of 'dive' sound effect

overall very minor adjustments but just a basic clean up. The blow ballast was really bugging me...

Credits included in read me. Special thanks to Spaxs and all contributors of this community this was truly a team fix.

Link below.

Thanks ATR! Really enjoy useing this mod. By the way; how's the fishing been so far in Jersey? We've been enjoying a good shot of quality Stripers as of late here in NY! I'm entered in a local Striper tourney out of Mamaroneck as a matter of fact! Thanks again, and tight lines buddy

"Bow tubes ready, Sir" is still in English and not German.

Reckon all the sounds in the 1,2,3,etc folders are the ones of a German install of SH4? If so, it's easy to fix myself, just thought I'd mention it.

In SH4 the speech sounds are located in Data\Sound\Speech and a couple folders named numerically from 1 to 9 - in Data\Sound are also a couple speech files.

Reckon the folder structure is the same in both, haven't checked the file names - worth a try in SH3 me thinks.

In other words, I don't know

I'm just wondering if there has been any progress with v9 of this mod?

I have a problem with filefront links. It redirects me to the hompage (filefront.com). Any other download link available?

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply. It's probably just me who's bad at locating files at FF but the only user I can find is ATR42 (http://hosted.filefront.com/Atr42/) and the only file available is a iPhone app called TideApp.ipa?

ATR, for the next version of this pack you could use the trick found out by Captain von Keldunk, which allows the US and german crews to actually use different voices without any need to switch voice packs with JGSME. It works by splitting the number of voices in two, making one set be german voices and the other american voices. Then, the text file for the voices is edited making german crewmen only use the german voices, and american crewmen use only the american ones.

IT reduces the number of different voices available to half (And also the download size, obviously), but in my humble opinion it is worth it for those who switch theaters frequently.

A guide to that fix can be found here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...3&postcount=54

Cheers

That would be great if that little fix could be implemented! That has always been my biggest gripe with UBM. I never play one side exclusively. I might do a little bit of a patrol with one side or a mission with another. Switching back and forth between English and German drove me nuts. That's one of the reasons I reinstalled SH3.

im trying to follow whats exactly involved in that post but im not exactly sure, how in depth it is... im reading it some more now... it would certainly make sense.

the post regarding the more streamlined way of doing things seems to make sense but im not sure i understand it fully enough to impliment it just yet. if anyone has further, more exacting details please email or PM me.

in the meantime, i re uploaded the speech fix to FF and im uploading to Subsims now!
