Default [REL] Start at Sea v1.0

From the readme:

Octobe 25, 2007
Start at Sea V1.0 for GWX 1.03
==============================

After more than 2 years ago I started the Harbour Traffic mod series that was adapted for almost all the big mods since then. Harbour Traffic was intend to bring life to all Sh3 harbours, mainly the departure ports, with a historical traffic when possible.

I guess that HT mod series followed its purpose very well, just limited by the Sh3 engine itself.

But now, more than 2 years have past and after we play the game a lot, frequently we should like to have a more quick departure to go more directly to our patrol. SH4 already have this option on the stock game but SH3 don´t.

Well, the best way to do this, observing some SH3 limitations, is to use this new mod - Start at Sea - which will put your patrol start point more or less 25km away from your base, into the sea - and you can easily revert to start docked again when you want!

This 25km have a sense: this is the maximum distance where Sh3 allows to you to dock at any base. This means that even starting at sea you yet can finish your patrol docked into your base - if you wish to.

I also tried to put all these "at sea departure point" near where your escort ship will bring you safely into your base (if you wish to "use" this feature).

That is all, the mod works 100% - we need now to claim JScones to make this absolutelly automatic putting it as a SH3 Comm feature.

(JSGME ready)
=================================================

Usage and Installation:

The mod can be installed without quit the game. So, when you want to start at sea just Alt Tab from SH3, install the mod using JSGME, then return to Sh3 and you are ready to go.

At the other side, to return to "start docked", just make the inverse action, uninstalling the mod using JSGME and so on.

Notice that the mod was designed to work only with (all) the standard German flotilla bases- from Trondheim to Jakarta - and just install/uninstall when you will start a new patrol, so don´t install/uninstall it mid patrol.
=================================================

Other comments about some Sh3 limitations:

- Sh3 only accept the first entry on LND file with the correct base name as the correct base/place to use to start missions. So, you will see (as an example) a "Brest" name blue point more or less 25km away from the real Brest harbour location. I then provide another "Bresthafen" name that will be now point to the exact Brest harbour location (neutral colors to avoid others save/reload problems). The first mark can be seing as the "Brest port Entrance" and the other as the "Brest docks itself".

- Because the max distance needs to be 25km from the harbour itself, Brest, La Rochelle, Bordeaux and Trondheim "sea start points" are yet inside of the respective harbour canal, and not at the escort ship max point, but in its path anyway.

- Flensburg was an exception; I put it in the end of the canal (because the 25km rule allows), a bit away from it´s escort ship max point, to meet some better gameplay functionality.

- When you start a patrol your crew will be just stand (as they do in the dock) and your uboat is stopped. Just run ahead and after you pass 450m from the start point your crew will start to look at the horizon.
=================================================

Hopes that you like it!
Rubini.

Will give it a try; sometimes leaving Lorient is boring...
But what about "Start in pen" mod? Is it possible?

Well, the idea is exactly to have choices. I made it because sometimes I´m also boring and want a more quick departure. The beautiful is that it is possible to start at dock at any time again if you wish.

About Subpens...GWX and others mod (since HT mod in truth) already have some places where you start at a subpen when historically correct. Lorient is an exception because the subpen localization isn´t good.

As I am an impatient little git, this is an ideal workaround to by-passing the Harbour ; will give it a try sometime in the future

I seem to be having trouble DLing it from mediafire.

It's only a tiny file though, would someone be willing to email it to me?

I just received a good number of PMs asking me to email the mod...you are right ...media fire is really with some problem, i also can't downlod anything from there now. As I said, I'm at my work. Later when i come back to my house I will then upload also do rapidshare and will also reply the PMs by email (with the mod -it's a tiny 40kb file!), ok?

And thanks to try the mod!

The idea and some others tweaks are always at hand for next GWX update if you want it. Anyhow, I guess that the perfect place for this feature is Sh3 Comm.
