Default OT: U.S. SUbmarine decoys

I posted this awhile back, but due to many sstill not believing that U.S. Subs had decoys I will repost.
I remember a while back people were saying that American subs did not have decoys, well that is just not true, after spending my summer volunteering at the U.S.S. Batfish I learned that American subs used alka seltzer and shot it out the signal flare ejectorin the aft torp. room, and they also used a fake periscope that was metal and it floated on the surface it was about 3 feet long and was fired the same way as the alka seltzers. The alka seltzer was meant to sound like a propeller swishing in the water, this is what is modeled in the game.

the first paragraph in this link lists the decoy capabilities: http://www.usscod.org/ator.html

The site doesn't actually say when they actually started using those decoys, however.

Some subs used home made decoys, by ejecting rubbish and odds and ends from a torpedo tube as well as some oil. This would give subs a chance to escape. There is at least one recorded instance of this happening. I can't give a name for the sub (the book that has it is in storage at the moment!), but it was later sunk on a different mssion.

Dates I have seen have been very late 1944. November/December at the earliest.

Correct.

Capt. Eugene Flukey had his own brand of decoys. On his second patrol, he asked for a empty milk can to be filled up with oil and thrown overboard to give the DD's something to depth charge. On his third patrol, he did something similar, except he fired it out one of the stern torpedo tubes.

Does this mean that the button labeled "Launch decoys" actually does nothing ?

And on his 5th patrol he actuly used bold style decoys.
