[REQ] Custom Emblems

Remember the SH III emblems? Is there a way to add one's own to these boats? :hmm:

Not sure on how to add them, but it has been done as part of an overall skin.

Both by Captain Cox

Some other skins in the mod section, havn't seen stand alone emblems yet, just a matter of time though.

There is some thoughts as to if the feature from SH3 can be ported over to SH4...long shot but would be DAM SWEET!

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=115324

The only way now is to do it on your own, using for example Photoshop or an equivalent image software. Find your "Insignia" and place it on to the skin directly.

Or ask if some of the guys would like to do a custom one for you if you provide the "Insignia" graphics...of course

I've already got some I threw together for SH III, just wondering how to get them on the SH IV subs, which would be the files to open in photoshop etc...

Ok you need a .DDS plugin for PS.

Get it here:
http://developer.nvidia.com/object/p...s_plugins.html

The conning files are here in the game:
Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Textures\TNormal\tex (there is also a LRes folder with the same stuff, but who uses LO-res nowdays )

Do a search for "NSS" in that folder and you will see all the conning towers.

The files you want to work with are called xxxxT01.dds (early towers 1941-43) or xxxxT02.dds (later towers 1943-45)

There are some files in there called xxxxxO01.dds, these are occlusion or light-maps and is used only to render reflections and stuff in game, no need to touch these if you only want to apply some graphics.

2nd, you have to find the location for the Insignia, i recommend to use the "Checkerboard" technique for this, explained here.
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...t=checkerboard

Happy painting

Something i forgot to ask(but asumed i did right);
I can make the emblems in two sizes as shown below
If someone wants an emblem add the type as well

Default first go

Ok here is my first go at an emblem, as the_belgian says, size matters, I guess that single coloured emblems resize better than multi-coloured ones. I've tried to fade the image and two of the kills a bit, to give it a weathered look, and added a fresh kill.

and second, using mirror letters and numbers on a Sargo class sub

Well well, once you have the hang of it you can't stop.
Remember three things;1)the right side is front
2)avoid text or numbers(mirror on one side)or do like me in the 4 examples uss trout,ss-202 with the capital t and mirrored 2
3)smaler picture=lesser pixels
