A visual map showing sea lanes would be the greatest. So far, I have identified 3. Will check out a tanker route during my present patrol. (04 Aug. 1940) GWX 1.03

Gotta make sure that info provided by Kaleuns states what version of game they are using.

That is exactly what I have in mind.

Can you confirm that GWX and the other supermods change shipping routes and frequencies (talking about merchants).

We set sail to the AM52 promise land in our new Type III to see all this "Tonnage". All the way there we were forced under by air patrol, dogged by DD's and armed trawlers. Finally make it, setup patrol and surface to attack sound contacts only to find fishing boats. The crew's morale is down from the long journey, repeated air bombardments and boat repairs. I'm cursing the "faulty" radio reports about this area. We submerge and wait for darkness to cover our retreat. Four hours before nightfall, Warship, long range, moving slow and closing. One hour later half the hydrophone dial is nothing but slow spinning screws. Five completed patrols and NO convoys… Whatever is heading are way is massive.

Here’s the rub, the sea is calm, sun is up, visibility is high, there is no chance of surfacing to gain distance on the convoy (Air Patrols are relentless). Can’t waste the batteries, they will be needed for the escape. I’m leaning towards a strategy of putting one fish on each large freighter/tanker, going deep, reload and come back at after DD’s have left to finish of the wounded. Or would it be best to salvo two large ones and assure the kill?

Johan_d, sounds interesting, but what excactly would this look like?
How to make this visual with a database?
See my ideas some posts before. I'm planning on working out a visual map.
In fact, I've already started.
I dont think it is easy with a map, with so much ships sailing around it may be cluttered like hell.
Maybe a simple database, where one enters a grid name, like BE, and a year and month. Once can then see what ships are reported that month in that sector. Like this:

Query: BE 1942 04

Result:
BE10 merchant
BE25 destroyer
BE45 convoy

Possibly with comments of the Kaleun who entered it in the database.
Also, a date can also be used, so that when one enters a date, yy/mm/dd the database gives results for a week after the date too.
It could be presented on a map, in one knows how.. must be doable.

I think we could do both!
We practically need the same contact info from the community.

I would need:

Type: Single merchant
Grid: BE342
Year: 1941
Mod: GWX
Heading: SSW

don't forget speed estimate slow/medium/fast and if actually encountered and attacked (or spotted and left alone) type and more specific speed

pasting those onto a map, to eventually form clear shipping lanes would definitely work and noting the mod(s) involved seems fairly important since I do suspect changes made in convoy routes by GWX at least, I'm encountering convoys where i never saw 'em before using RUB and/or stock sh3

Yes every supermod gets its own map, and the years 39-45 will be in 7 colors from white to red.

Don't know about speed and attack info, I don't think that is relevant here. We want to know if and what we will likely encounter when we go to a certain spot, not how fast they go imo.
Historically that would have been vital info, but not in this project imo.

I'm already working on it now.
The biggest challenge is to keep the graphic file size as low as possible. I work with gif's, it's working out alright.
Soon we will have a community contact collection map.
Hey that sounds good..

Apparently the Happy Hunting Grounds research ship's role is not limited to research. Nice tonnage!

Hey that sounds good..

Sounds great! This will save weeks of stooging around empty seas and will yield a dramatic rise in tonnage.

Giving this a bump to keep it active!

Will have to go and check my grids tonight afterwork to find where I located the 3 convoys within 100km's of each other.

Panic!

Thanks for the contact reports, Kaleuns!
I'll use these for testing. These will also be the first to appear on the live map.

Machen Sie weiter so.
