uh, what the?

Anyway, RO is pretty much the most realistic fps there is. Haven't been able to play COD or CS at all since I discovered it.
I usually go by the name of Volksdeutscher.

I play a few rounds every now and then, if not I'm playing Day of Defeat.

Heck ya!

Actually, it's the only FPS I play (I'm keeping an eye on ArmA as well). Regardless, RO is an excellent game.

It would be cool if we could form a kind of casual clan from here. The game really is all about cooridnation, only very few people do it. Just meet on a TS server with a few guys.

One of my favorites for sure. You'll see me as "3rd Reich Mike"...various servers.

What exactly is great about Red Orchestra? From what I have seen the gameplay looks alot like the original BF1942.

I think Operation Flashpoint, VBS, and Arma are the best tactical FPS you can play to experience an actual battlefield environment. I'm just curious what exactly people like about Red Orchestra and what makes it realistic.

I think it's more in line with the titles you mentioned rather than BF1942.

It plays nothing like the Battlefield series. BF is all about action and explosions. RO is even more realistic then any of the bohemia interactive stuff you mentioned.

There is no crosshair on any of the weapons and a very minimal hud. You can only aim properly by looking through the iron sights. When looking through the iron sites, the view doesn't zoom in at all, like you get in other WW2 fps.
Bolt action rifles must be cocked after every shot.
Magazines keep their bullets. If you take off a mag with three rounds left, you'll get it again later. No consolidating of rounds bullcrap.
Machine guns get hot and require barrel changes.
Realistic trajectory of rounds, ricochets etc.
You tire quickly when you run.
If you're being suppressed or fired at, you'll know about it!
Shots are more stable according to your stance. You can rest your weapon on objects to steady it.

Tank combat is not as realistic as infantry combat (flashpoint may be just a little better in this regard), due to the intricacies of it... but
Unlike Battlefield, Tanks can be crewed by three.
There is no third person crap, The view is from inside the tank.
There are a number of positions, hatch open/closed etc.

Only drawback, most of the maps are relatively small. But there are some huge ones. The great thing is the sheer amount and quality of player created maps.

Bottom line, red orchestra is very, very different to BF1942.

I haven't played for a few weeks, but I'd definitely be up for something like this. I enjoy and play infantry, armor and combined maps, though inf only maps are my favorite. Possibly because I seldom get a teamplayer in my tank. Usually it's somebody just screwin' around or shooting at friendlies.

Once I'm less busy in a week, I'd love to start something.

I too like infantry maps the best, but tanks are great as long as you have competant teamates and proper comms. I usually make sure I get a tank on my own.
