Default IXC Winter Camo - Release

Totally fictitious, but I hope you like it

It's only on Filefront at the moment as Rapidshare is full and I know Terrapin has a bit of a backlog.
Besides, I only have an up speed of 21kb/s , maybe some kind person might like to up it for me.

Textures are included for all 3 conning towers on this boat.

Enjoy.

JSGME Ready

Thank You Terrapin
http://u-boot.realsimulation.com/

Now, I must get back to that Tutorial. My mate Seth is waiting for it.

That is a rather unique skin Personnaly Ive always had idea's for sub skins, but my ideas/ambitions far exceed my aptitude in graphic's editing or creation.

Thanks Seth

Rapidshare told me earlier that it was full

I know people have problems downloading from either/or, hopefully they'll all be able to get it now

Well since i *thinik* your another type IX fanboy like myself, ill describe what ive had in my mind in general terms, you may or may not agree. This is just my personal opinion and why im always looking for a new skin, please dont take this as a criticism.

nyway, I think the skin is important on a type 9 because you stare at it for a longer period of time. Your out on the patrol alot longer. I think it should be asthetically pleasing, practical, and should show signs of weathering.

When i say asthetically pleasing, i mean, not too dark, and not too light, but something in between. Practical i mean in terms of camoflauge. I think the purpose is to break up the subs outline. More modern forms of camo patterns are just too busy to the eye. No camo at all is just boring and bland. Weathering i think is probably the hard part, but the point being the boat should look like its been at sea for awhile, not fresh out of drydock.

Some illustrations of weathering:
http://www.uboatarchive.net/U-505.htm
http://www.uboatarchive.net/U-805ColorPhotos.htm

Other examples of existing skins:

Fubars Schlickgrau 58.
Great shade i think, but lacks in any sort of camo or paintscheme to break up the boats outline. Antoher shade would be maybe dark grey? not sure. Definatly not the light grey we've all seen.

Furbars late war u805
A step in the right direction i think, but the tower is too dark, the the hull is to light in color. The camo pattern i think is a hybrid of the one that's in the stock game, which isnt a bad thing, as i rather liked that pattern.

Fubars Late war IXD:
This skin is almost bloody perfect!

Now, one kink to skinning i have, is the towers. Partucarlly if you repack them into their dats to save on system resources.. I think the tower should match all three IX uboats, as all three uboats use the same three towers.

Ive never said anything about skins before, because i suck. Who am i to judge? I know what i like, and i use what i can get, and normally keep my mouth shut cause i know im just being nitpicky and vain.

That's quite a wish list you have there.

I always repack the DATs so we would need the same 'Hull' skin for all three IX's? Correct. Well, at least in general terms (i.e colour)

I totally agree, I will look into different camo schemes from the time.

This is the hard part, however it is do-able. You just can't seem to get the right feel with weathering. It always feels too clincal as a graphic. Still I will try.

Well, time permitting , I will have a go for you. You won't mind if I PM with some screenies for approval. There's no sense in filling the forum with failed efforts.

Just in general color i would imagine. For example the prolbem i have right now is im thinking about starting an IXD2 uboat career. Ive currently repacked all the dats for the conning towers in the same color you see in my sig file that you so cooly made for me (thanks for that btw). The problem is im using the IXD2 skin ive already linked a pic of and that two sort of clash. So now now i have to repack my dats again. Not a big deal, but if you change your mind on boats alot, it gets old.

Well, use your imagination a little too. What i really look for in a camo scheme is one that breaks up the boats length. For example, take a look at the default camo scheme for the IXC, and then look at it without that camo scheme. Does it seem, bigger or smaller to you? I think It breaks up the boat's silloutte lengthwise and makes it appear to be smaller. If thats a histrical scheme or not i dont know but i like to think it is.

Indeed, time permitting . If you do make one, dont do it just for me, make it for yourself or any other type 9 fanboy who likes to have their boat look like a real veteran
