Default I forget...help please

Trying to change mission starting point so I can start at the dock, at the sub base at Pearl Harbor(added by nbjackso navmap makeover) , I forget how to do this? Anyone know? Thanks in advance. Driving me crazy.

Also, anyway to make it so can make time compression what is desired, without the silly limits when near land etc, slows down leaving port etc.

When you start patrol, a page comes up for you to choose "start at dock" or "start outside harbor". If you're too quick clicking on 'Next" you don't notice it. Default is start outside of harbor.

With the exact coordinates for the sub-base, I unfortunately can not serve.
I always start at the Dock`s in PH, but the sub-base on starboard is always visible in my ModPack.
However, with a pre-PH start, not because I have not adapted the date for the object.

I myself always play with a max. TC of 1024.
In my experience, however, one should not exceed a TC of 2048, otherwise it will be creepy and haunted evil ghosts ...

Supplement:
The TC is already restricting the optical or electronic sensor system in close proximity to the ground or at a base.
In this case I use a TC of 8 ...

But I am also a really comfortable player.

Open the file with the Pearl pen in the Mission Editor. Be sure that the bottom status bar is visible. Zoom in on the location you want your boat to spawn at, and then hover the mouse pointer over that spot. You might have to left-click to make it (the pointer) active in the window. While you're hovering your mouse pointer, you should see the latitude and longitude numbers changing as you move the mouse. The first is 8 digits (usually) and the 2nd will be 7. Of course, with Pearl East of the International Date Line, one of those numbers ends up being a negative, and would be preceded by a minus (-) sign. Use those numbers in the Flotilla UPC file. You can have more than one of those listed, btw...

Brings up a question I've been wondering for a while with US_NavalBases.mis - I understand the coordinates and can set it up in the flotillas.upc file, but how do you get the actual docks to show up in the mission editor? If I want to place a ship at a dock, I have to trial and error the little beast for a week.

That's relatively easy also, but can be very frustrating, because there are no pictures to help with what you're doing, and you have to take a guess and pick one to see if you like it, then try another, etc.

First, with your "target" file open, zoom in to where you want to put your dock. Don't get too close though, staying about 3 or 4 zooms out. Click on the "Tools" menu item, and then on "Map Locations Edit Mode". Right-click on the map at your intended target area, and choose the "Add Map Location" with a left-click. Name it what you want, and choose the "2D image map name". Click around on them until you find something that looks like it might work. You have to click on the "Accept" button to see it. Hit the "Delete" key if you don't like it. The "Verysmall_Pacific_Harbor_I" is the one that looks most like "sub pens", in my opinion.

I should have probably made a different step one, and had you look at an existing dock, but oh well... The "settings" are kind of important.

To be able to see it properly, set the "Zoom Start" at "50". "Zoom end" at "1". Click on the "Scale on zoom" tick box, set "Max obj slope" to "0.550000" and the "Scale" to "14.377808". All the other docks in the game (that I've looked at) are set the same. Click on Accept. That will give you some idea of whether you like it or not.

If that's the object you want, click on the ocean background again, to make sure you have nothing else selected, and then right-click on the "building" of the picture representing your dock, and left-click on "Edit Map Location". Now you want to change the 2nd box from the top, where it says "Location Type", which is set to "2DMapData", and change that to "3DLocation". That will "activate" the "Location 3D model", which you want to scroll down through the list and match your 2D image, whatever it is. So that the text of the name you use matches the rest of the game text, change the "Font name" to FPCond18.dds. You can either blank the "Location name in game", or name it what you want to show in the game. Set your date fields near the bottom to whatever you want. Everything else should stay the same, but double-check the settings. Hit the "Accept" button, and it should show in the game now. You do the same for the "City" or "Village" scapes that you want to use. I don't set all the settings initially, while I look for something, but you do have to set the scaling so that you can see if what you've chosen fits in the spot...

It took me a while to stumble on looking at one of the other docks already in the game, and looking at its settings to see why mine weren't showing in-game. I could see them in the ME, but they weren't there in the game, and it's that "Location Type" set to the "3DLocation" and using the matching file. I haven't tried to see what happens if I don't match the two files... probably a CTD though... - If you think about it, and have used any of the map names or the patrol circle or whatever, they don't show in the game, and are 2D, but they show on the map...

Think you misunderstood the question - not interested in adding new docks, what I'm looking to do is place a ship at an existing dock. Trouble there is the docks that exist in the game, and are visible on the in game chart when you zoom way in, are not shown in the mission editor no matter how far I zoom in. I assumed they were in US_NavalBases.mis, maybe I'm looking at the wrong career mission file.

Well, in that case, open your US_NavalBases.mis file. As always, it's best to work with copies. Zoom in on the harbor (Pearl, I'm assuming) where you're going to place the boat. You don't have to come in all the way, just close enough to see Ford Island somewhat. Click on the "File" menu again, and this time choose "Merge...", which will bring up a little pop-up dialog. You want to be sure that you have the little tick-box "Mark merged data as saveable" UNTICKED or EMPTY. If you do not do that, anything you do will then be "merged" or combined together. Again, it's best to work with copies. After you click on the "OK" button, scroll through your Campaign files again, and choose "Campaign_LOC.mist". Click on the "Open" button, and there you should now have the docks and cities showing in your US_NavalBases.mis file. Zoom in the rest of the way so you can do your finding of the spot as mentioned above, and transfer that to your Flotillas.upc file, and test it. You can close your ME without saving. If you hear a bunch of screeching and howling when you load the game, you'll know you missed... Just be sure you have External Camera enabled, so you can see which way you need to go...

Why, thank you CapnScurvy, though I do believe that there are others much more knowledgeable and skilled...

Anyway, I forgot to mention to Sniper297 that it's also always a good idea to "Merge..." with the US_HarborTraffic.mis file also (in this particular case), due to the amount of traffic it puts in the harbors, especially Pearl. You wouldn't want your boat to spawn in the middle of a CV, or even a PC...

Sometimes you have to "Merge..." with a whole mess of files, just to be able to judge your placement... The one nice thing about the ME, is that once you're zoomed in on a location, you can just stay at that particular spot and open the files one by one, and you'll stay in that spot, at that zoom level. Don't "Close" or "Exit" from the files, just use the "Open" dialog. Therefore, sometimes a good first step is to start with zooming in on a proposed spawn location and open files one at a time, just using the "File" and "Open", going down the list of mis files. You're then able to judge whether or not you might have to "Merge..." (without Save) any of the files with what you're going to do with another. That way, you've got accurate placement.

Bravo Zulu, that works!

All I wanted was to move the Asiatic career starting point from Manila to Cavite but couldn't see the Cavite docks in the mission editor. Correct way to start would be to anchor a sub tender near the docks with a nest of subs tied alongside, possibly with the player sub just outboard of the last one. If I can get that to work I might try adding new docks at Corregidor and Subic Bay.

If you've got the FotRSU installed, do a quick career start at Dutch Harbor, Territory of Alaska, and you 'll start in one of 3 different places along the dock, or two places alongside the Sub Tender... really cool stuff when you do that. All it takes is a little patience and a lot of re-starting of the game

Running TMO RSRD. The nav map makeover by nbjackson is running over it, makes the nav map wonderful, adds pearl sub base as well as sofu gan etc. Problem is getting it where I can start at sub base, I believe someone mad a fix for me one time, I remember starting at pearl sub base after he released the mod, but I cant find it on here.
