Icon14 Sonar Attack

Has anyone tried a sonar attack? I am having trouble adjusting to the Sonar screen in WOTP - I was introduced to subsims on Silent Service - at least I think that was the name - it was back in the mid to late 90s when I started playing. I seem to recall having a Sonar screen that would allow me to make attacks while submerged.
I miss those days! Anyway, is there any way to improve the Sonar Screen to provide better targeting data?
Thanks ya'll,
LarryT

which is a video linked to in Rocking Robbins Sub Skipper's Bag of Tricks thread. There are others, including one with a pdf somewhere on the site... I can't hardly find anything with the "Search", since there's so much to look at, that I usually just browse through the listings for a while...

Edit: If you use CapnScurvy's OTC mod in stock or RSRDC, you can add-in his sonar fix for the Gato boats:

FotRS Ultimate will have it also.

Bonjour,

Personally, I have recently tried.
It was during a multiplayer game. Following a grenadage I had two broken periscopes and the author of vandalism kept turning me around. Perhaps he had exhausted his stock of garbage?
So I asked my sonar operator to bring me all contacts on this individual and after 2 laps, I sent a Mk-14 according to the method O'Kane and I have sank, her about 700 meters.

Default Sonar Attack

Thanks much for the messages. I may try the mod to improve the Sonar using the Mod. I assume I can remove the Mod. if I don't find it helpful?
Thanks,
LarryT

The thing to do is to use JonesSoft Generic Mod Enabler, aka: JSGME to "install" your mods with. Just pay attention to the Mod's folder structure as you "unpack" them on your hard drive. You'll want the Mod's folder, and directly below it the Data folder that holds all the info for the Mod. If you use JSGME and run it the first time, it will create a folder named MODS in your Silent Hunter game folder, and that's the place to put the actual Mod folder... MODS Mods...

example:

C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter WotP\MODS\Game Fixes Only v1.1\Data

The "MODS" folder is what JSGME creates, the folders after that are part of the Webster's_GFO_Mod_v1.1 download, that you pulled the "Game Fixes Only v1.1" folder (with all of its subfolders) out of and put into the MODS folder.

Also, before you start enabling mods, use the little blue "Tasks" link in the middle of the JSGME task, and choose "Generate snapshot of game files". It'll take a bit to run, but it will then have a list of all the original files prior to your putting extra stuff in there.

Be sure and read some of the "stickie" threads at the top of the forum list here, but especially THEBERBSTER's Tutorials, How to do it, info... thread.

Actually, both the WernerSobe sonar only technique and my Dick O'Kane sonar only attacks do not require any sonar mods at all to be quite deadly. You can find out all about both techniques in the Sub Skippers' Bag of Tricks thread. Neither technique will benefit from any sonar mod.
