Default Suggestions.....

Okees, just installed on a new computer (SH4 ver 1.5) Suggestions on the best realistic water, sound and environment mods to install. Don't care much about "realistic" game play, more about the looks and sounds. Thank guys!!

Of course, as you're probably already aware, JSGME is the first "mod" to install... After that, it's basically a matter of taste. Do you care if the game gets much more difficult to stay alive in while you play, if the difficulty level comes as part of the "environment" mod?

As you probably already know, there are all sorts of little mods for just one aspect of an environment, and full-blown "everything" environment mods. I wasn't much into what things looked like myself, until the recent past when I've gotten myself some stronger computer gear that can actually run some of the mods without hiccups. What I was playing regularly, prior to getting involved in the FotRS Ultimate project (long post) is Webster's Game Fixes Only v1.1, and added in the Real Environment #1 Patch after installing it (Real Environment SH4, which is multiple "#" folders - do the ReadMe!). Be sure and read all the ReadMe files, else you might end up with mod soup... Webster includes quite a few smaller mods in his GFO mod, and you have to be careful what, if anything, you put on top of it. It's doesn't pretty-up all aspects of the game, but I sure enjoy it's blend of changes. When "Fall of the Rising Sun, Ultimate" comes out though, with all it's proposed user-definable aspects, it may well supplant my current favorite. Then again, there are certain aspects of Webster's GFO that I do not want to lose, and I may end up with both of them side-by-side with MultiSH in control...

Hi Navigator857

Good luck with the mods you try

It might be worth you keeping an eye on FOTRS Ultimate
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=226270

You don't have to read all 82 pages!
Just read the last 4 or 5 and you will see the sort of progress we are making

Still in development, but close to a General Beta release
It looks awesome
(Of course I am a biased, seeing as I am helping them)

The great thing about it is - it seems to satisfy what you listed in your original post

Complete graphics and environment overhaul - check
Complete overhaul of the sub interiors, they look absolutely beautiful -check
Complete sound overhaul - check
Will have 5 different plugin mods so you can choose your level of enemy AI and therefore the difficulty of the game - check

Also not on your list but important nevertheless - pretty much doubles (or more!) the amount of ships in campaign

Japanese merchant ships have gone up from 15 to 37
IJN units have gone up from about 25-30, to 58

Just imagine all those extra targets you can sink

Keep an eye on it

FOTRS Ultimate - coming soon

Hey Rockin Robins - you wanna pipe up here and do your sales pitch on Navigator857

This is what I use for fun. I also "cheat" in the sense that I use auto-targeting (on the basis that a skipper would have help in setting things up) and an external camera for enjoying the fruits of my "labors":

100_TriggerMaru_Overhaul_2-5
110_RSRDC_TMO_V502
111_RSRDC_V5xx_Patch1
112_1.5_Optical Targeting Correction 031312 for RSRDCv502
113_1.5_OTC_Realistic Scopes for 16 to 9 RSRDCv502
114_Improved Ship Physics 2.6_TMO_RSRDC
115_ISP 2.x_SW_Patch for TMO
116_OTC_ISP_Crew Mod
120_Easier AI for TMO 2.5 by Orpheus
130_RSRDC_TMO_Pre Pearl Harbor Career Start
131_Pre-PH Mod Patch
200_SonarTargetFix2_TMO
210_Fixed Zero Bomb Load RSRDC
300_Improved Stock Environment_v3_TMO&RFB
320_Sobers Better Rock V2
330_Sobers Better Sand II
350_Nav Map Make-Over v2.1
351_NMMO Airbase Add-on
352_NMMO v2.1 Patch 1 with AB
365_TDW_Ship_Plane_Fire_Damage_v1_3_SH4
370_TMO Smoke Mod
400_Razzle Dazzle Non TMO ver1
410_PE4 Torpedo Wake for TMO_2.5
415_RSRDC - Office Links, Info Boxes, and 50 cal
420_SS887 Twin 40mm - Mark 28 TMO
430_UStorp125plus125
440_1.5_OTC_US Radar from Start for TMO
450_Lite Fog v2 + 300' Underwater Visability
500_800 Sharp 5 in 25 cal deck gun sound
600_ParaB's fewer radio contacts
610_Stop The Shouting
700_Convoy Routes TMO+RSRD
710_Better U.S. medals for OTC + TMO
800_tambor198's TMO+RSRDC missions pack

I added the numerical prefixes to help me keep them in an order that works without interfering with each other. So far no CTD's with this mod soup.

Awesome list. Do I load them in the order you have them in? And thank you for the reply.

P.S. I'm trying to find these thru the search but some are not showing up, like the TDW_Ship_Plane_Fire_Damage_v1_3_SH4 and . These I can not find. I have searched for awhile using these terms and can't find the files. Can anyone help please?

Also, have the TMO loaded but when I click the fire button for the torps the stopwatch shows up, but no torps? Is the another key to fire the torps?

Nevermind, duh, hit "Q" to open the outer doors lol.

Having to open the doors, and on some mods, having to hit the <Alt> key with the <Enter> key in order to fire, has saved many a sub skipper the embarrassment of the enemy DD fleet finding him from inadvertently firing a torpedo, when all he wanted to do was "speed" things up a touch with the "+" <Plus> key...

Navigator857 TMO should have its own keyboard layout image somewhere......in the main game folder, or in one of the "Documentation" folders that comes with the mod. I suggest you print it off to keep yourself up to date on what keystrokes to use.

Don't forget to open the "Help" menu by using the F1 key. Should find the changes TMO included there too.

Jack, I load them in the numerical order shown in the list. JSGME will sort them in that order. You can highlight the whole list and load it, or do it one at a time, but keep the order. It works, at least for me!

Here is what I have for sources. They are all in the Downloads section except for the three that I show as being the correct name. I got them from various postings in the forum, but can't point you to a specific. Good luck!

Pre-PH Mod Patch is actually named Pre-PH_Mod_Patch;
TDW_Ship_Plane_Fire_Damage_v1_3_SH4 is the correct name (don't remember where I got it - search the forums);
SS887 Twin 40mm - Mark 28 TMO is the correct name (don't remember where I got it - search the forums):
1.5_OTC_US Radar from Start for TMO is found inside 15_OpticalTargetingCorrection031312forTMO25.rar:
800 Sharp 5 in 25 cal deck gun sound is the correct name (don't remember where I got it - search the forums):
US Torp125plus125 is in BangForYourBuck.zip (I think you have this one already.

Cool realism isn't it?

On earlier subs the outer doors had to be cranked open by hand, thus the Captain would order "Open outer doors, tube(s) 1, 2... etc.

On later subs they could be opened hydraulically but the game still requires the gamer to open them before firing or definitely causing a delayed or no torp fired situation.
