Default Installing LSH3 in Steam

Thanks,
I will definitely making any more posts after this one to that thread.
As I mentioned, the game is correctly installed, loads and begins but the screen has the 2 infamous black bands either side and then freezes/goes crazy after about 10 seconds, and that's it, have to escape to desktop.
Looked at the LHS installation guide and tried to follow advice but doesn't seem to correspond to what I see on the screen in terms of driver changes required etc.
Nvidia Geforce drivers up to date I think and messed around with resolution but makes no difference. Strange as up till about 6 months ago had no problems running GWX, did a driver update and from then on all these problems began.
Even seems to affect SH5 wos too.
Maybe a system restore to a year ago would work?
Cheers
Steve (suffering oldmanitis too!)

Icon9 Installing LSH3 in Steam

Hi, my screen setting are 1366x768 and I haven't downloaded any gui mod.
Drivers up to date. Went into SH3 exe and choose Windows 8 compatibility mode too.

Default Installing LSH3 in Steam

Ooops, not sure how to post a screenshot to this post (oldmanitis) but it's the same black side lines either side as shown in the LSH instructions pdf.
Just that their instructions there to overcome bear no relation to what I have on my PC in terms of the pathway to follow to solve it.
Maybe if I could just get a full screen the problem would be solved....

Default Installing LSH3 in Steam

Hi,
I loaded the wide screen mod and so I thought that would make a difference and seemed to be good for a few minutes before the graphics stopped working again. Changed the exe to windows 8 compatibility but no good. Comp specs I think should be OK, quite old but surely enough for modded SH3, I think?

Microsoft Windows 8.1 Single Language (64-bit)
Processor
Intel® Core™ i7-4500U CPU @ 1.80GHz
Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M

See a problem here? Any other advice?

SH3 should be set to Win7 compatibility?? Did you install the DirectX v9.0c that came with the game?

Thank you both yet again.
I have directx version 11 according to the diagnostic. Does it have to be version 9.0c?
I tried to go into the Nvidia control panel to select aspect ration in the display section but it seems on my control panel I have 3D settings only...
Maybe I should try to reinstall the whole game and mod all over again?

Yes you need DirectX v9.0c installed. It has certain files in its Library that the game needs. Microsoft will not let it overwrite your DirectX v11, but it will add the necessary files in. THEBERBSTER has a link to the MS site for it in his ... TUTORIALS <> HOW TO DO IT <> INFO ... thread. Look below his section header "Download, Post Links & Information For SH4". Don't worry about the "SH4" naming. DirectX v9.0c applies to all of the Silent Hunter games...

OK, thank you, I will install the directx 9. It asks we when downloaded where to install. Do I point it directly to the steam SH3 folder?

Default Weird Graphics!

I finally got U72 out of Danzig harbour and functioning. All the different stations and screens perform normal except when I go into the sub interior when all sorts of psychedelic crazy flashing stuff starts happening and then everything freezes/melts. So I just click back to bridge, map, external etc views and all is OK again!!
Directx9c was installed.

You'll have to wait for THEBERBSTER to confirm, but I think LSH applies the 4gig patch (LAA) during the install, and I'm not familiar with what you describe getting in the interior of a sub. Do all of the subs do that, or only a particular one?

Default Weird Graphics!

Hi Berbster
Here are the activated JGME mods as you requested.

Generic Mod Enabler - v2.6.0.157
[C:\Games\Steam\SteamApps\common\SilentHunter3\MODS]

_LSH3-2015___FULLVERSION
_LSH3-2015___Patch_HSIE-V16B1
_LSH3-2015__ExtendedChallenge
_LSH3-2015__HistoricalMessages
_LSH3-2015_GUI__WIDESCREEN

In the HSIE patch I have all the options activated.

Referring to Probeanie's question, strange, SH5 wos is playable but again the sub interior is not right. Everything is kind of fizzy/sparkly and not even but no strange fireworks and things disappearing like in LSH!!
...And in SH4 everything works fine (apart from occasional CTD)
Regards
