Very strange - I have the original version which was uploaded to Area 51 and all the sounds are playing as normal...

The SUBSIM version does indeed have sound issues - the sound folder has been corrupted and all the sounds I've tried to play so far, are giving me the following error statements.



I have tried several different audio programs, and I am getting the same kind of errors. Now my fear is that if the sounds are corrupted, there may be other files not working correctly within the SUBSIM upload version.

I would recommend that at this time you all, remove the current SUBSIM v0.81 RC1 Build from your systems until further notice.

I will now PM all the team members to update them, and unfortunately I do not have access to the FotRSU upload section and so cannot upload a working version. I could use google drive or mediafire - but i'm hesitant in having multiple copies of the v0.81 RC1 floating around the net in different conditions, this would cause a lot of unneeded headaches.

Ditto on the Thanks and for the sounds. Voices only, plus I could hear ship sirens (at least one) at the dock in Cavite NB. No engine or other ambient sounds on the boat.

Otherwise, loads fast, looks great so far. I am now 100 NM from Cavite heading for Area H1-I in the S-23 at Ahead Standard on 12/10/41 Looking for a good time!

In the waiting of a fix or new download, maybe we can delete the sound folder of current 0.81 and replace it by sound folder of 0.80?
Could do the trick in the waiting...

That should work, but as s7rikeback notes, there unfortunately may be other file corruptions in the mod. The chances of that are rather high... Hopefully, it's just a sample mis-match issue with the building computer...

From what I can see with my limited tools on the laptop, the files have all been converted from 16-bit format to 8-bit format, and "stereo" files went to "mono", and are unplayable. For some reason, this corruption effectively doubles their amplitude (perceived loudness), resulting in a non-compatible file format for the game, and when imported into my audio app and then played, they are for the most part hitting a 6+db level, which is all the higher that this little app can do... "I'm givin' 'er all she's got, Cap'n, and she canna doo no more!"... All of the wave files in the root Sound folder are corrupted like that, while the ogg vorbis format (voice) files are OK...

I have found no other corruption as of yet... Some aspect of the build did a file conversion.

Apparently it works. Played a Single mission with 0.80 sound files for a while and didn't find any issues.

I know it's a very minor thing, but I've found out that after all these years, the Cavite Naval base (where the Asiatic Fleet career starts) is still located in the wrong place:



The sub starting position is in Manila, not Cavite.

Also notice the British Hurricanes flying cap instead of P-40s (for example).

Apart from that, very nice megamod .

A player will be able to choose if he wishes to keep his current equipment or step-up to the next upgrade. The Radar's for all subs will be provided at the above dates, however for a price of Renown, the units may be able to be purchased earlier, depends on date and specific equipment.

This list will be in the next release version under "Support".

I should point out regarding Hydrophone "passive" sonar use, that the S-Class, Narwhal, and Porpoise submarines require you to be submerged before the Hydrophone Station will provide the player with a detected target (allowing you to "hear" the ship). Your Sonar man will detect and report a finding by using "active" Sonar, but for the player to "hear" a target, you'll need to have the passive Hydrophone receiver (that's "deck" mounted on these three early submarines) to be below the surface. The active Sonar sending/receiving unit is mounted on the bottom of the hull on ALL subs, allowing for surfaced active Sonar use by either the Crew AI (Sonar man), or you the player, while at the Hydrophone/Sonar Station.

The S-Class does not change passive Hydrophone deck mounted receivers throughout the war. You'll always need to be submerged to manually use the passive Hydrophone with the S-Class subs. However, both Porpoise and Narwhal will receive a hull mounted passive Hydrophone receiver after September, 1942 allowing the sub to be surfaced and still hear a passive Hydrophone found target..

As far as a "Patch 5".....that's something that should have NEVER been brought up in open Forum discussions. One of the guys on the team produced it for only a few to try and for some reason it got "Published" here in this thread!? There is no "Patch" available for the community.

There's a new version coming soon (I HOPE), talk to the guy who's got his name on this thread about when?
No matter what I do, how much I sink or how long I go there is never a single upgrade to the deck gun nor the AA. Even by mid 1943 in the Gar with 13,000+ renown there is the .50 for AA that doesn't elevate and a 3 inch deck gun.

Even when I got a Balao it never changed.

If this is true then why are there still multiple version of FOTRSU to download. I never delete versions anyway after I download them.

I have almost 20 GB of mods sitting on one of my hard drives.

Again, that's because you're using one of the older versions of Ultimate. The last version that was publicly released was back in December 2018. This latest release should correct this.....when it ever gets actually straight due to some kind of sound issue that occurred when uploading it to the SubSim site.

The version of FOTRSU was the latest short of the no sound version just released. If there were corruptions in the files then it is in the mod itself. Since everything loaded was from a clean installation. Being a member of this group since 2007 I know what a clean installation is, and having read the numerous comments on clean installations over the last 12 years and having promoted them myself, as not to do so only invites corruption, the issues noted could only lay in two places.

The stock game or the mod.

Albeit a wonderful mod, which I do enjoy,I will let the silence of its latest version show the answer.

I also would like to say I do not expect perfection within since being created by humans I know that is not possible and bugs do arise. Good modders do work on it and I for one applaud every effort to perfect it for the end user.
