I have noticed that my crew are not getting any medals. Was this intentional? I have been given medals on the last 4 patrols but going into the crew compartment afterwards the crew doesn't get anything. Promotions are way down as well which I find nice because before there were just to many.
Found a nice convoy about 300nm ESE of Hokkaido June 1942. A very heavily escorted convoy of TWO merchants. Heavy Composite Freighters. Escorted by Two Kuma CL and 6 DD I sank both Kuma and one Freighter. It was pleasant to see more aggressive DD albeit none got within 1000 yards of me. They were trying. As of the last Patrol was just awarded the Tambor. The mod made me fight much harder with the Porpoise to get it this time. Very nice to see.

CTD - it's not just a job

No, not a Save issue. I'm still looking at that. Hopefully, it will be addressed with the batteries and a couple of other nigglies. But I do not understand why those DD cannot rid the ocean of your submarine, merc4ulfate! Your skill level is too high for me to hope to attain! I get sunk every time I try to attack anything with more than a couple of escorts... half a dozen? I might last maybe 12 minutes. Enough for all of them to get one pass at me - maybe... |

I think beeing spotted at 12km by merchants is a bit too much IMHO...
As soon as they appear on map (icon), they see me. I’m not sure merchants could see a sub at 12km anyway...between 8 and 10 should be more reasonable Just a thought for FORTRSU

I ran some tests with a modified sim.cfg file. This file can blind enemy escorts to some degree. However, when they do find you, you will still die. Makes for short campaigns. |

Agree. Enemy detection is way better in this version. Heavy seas seem to help quite a bit.

Narwhal Obeservations
Not certain what the Narwhal issue was.
Took the Narwhal out for a spin, December 9,1941, Pearl Harbor. Mission: Deposit spy near Kushiro. 1) Maximum time compression 4,096. Long way to Japan, never tried this high a compression, before. 2) Though hydrophone only works under water, did have sonar reports of unseen ships as I had in the S-18 class. Seems odd. I cannot hear, but hydrophone operator can. Is this SH4 limitation? 3) Engaged sailboat armed with AAMG 104 miles south of Kushiro at 17:50 in rough seas (13 mps). Enemy sunk with 9 round from rear gun (should have been 6" gun?). No damage to boat or casualties among crew. 4) Approaching mission target submerged, went to periscope depth and popped up scope. Message appeared aircraft spotted. Took a look just in time to see two Zero's glide bomb and damage boat. Didn't know aircraft could spot periscope. Dove to 300 feet, till night fall. 5) Surfaced 6 miles from target star and approached at night. Arrived 800 yards from shoreline at 21:00 hours. Waited one hour at speed zero. Spy refused to insert. Mission incomplete. 6) Next night, approach nearby Kushiro harbor. No ships in harbor. Didn't see any shore based guns. Surfaced at 1,400 yards, speed zero. Waited 15 minutes. Spy refused to insert. 7) Left harbor though center passage. Ran aground. Took a little hull damage. 8) Went back to target star and waited 12 miles off shore until following night. Surfaced and approached to 1000 yards from shore. Stopped and waited one hour. Spy refused to leave boat. I think mission may be broken. 9) Decided to patrol in Tsugaru Strait, near Hakodate. On the way, ran into another sail boat armed with AAMG. Sank sail boat with three rounds from rear 4" gun (should have been 6" gun?). No damage to boat or casualties among crew. 10) Set up ambush position at periscope depth in center of Tsugaru Strait. At 17:10, December 29, 1941, hydrophone reported contact. At 17:35, spotted Jyunsen Type I submarine in moderate seas (6 mps). Fired spread of four torpedoes at 4,300 yards. Enemy sub took no evasive action. Three torpedoes hit and detonated. Enemy sub sank. 11) At 20:30, December 29, 1941, spotted sail boat. Surfaced and engaged at 9,000 yards. Took first hit before we were able to man guns. Surprise! Sail boat with deck gun. After 3 hits, many casualties, 42 percent hull damage and many systems damaged, crash dove. First time ever beaten badly at 9,000 yards by a sail boat. 12) Limped into Pearl on January 8,1942. Preparing for another insertion mission. Last edited by Michael Wood; 03-30-19 at 11:58 PM. |

The trouble with having the AI Visual set so a nearby enemy COULD spot your subs periscope, also allows it to see beyond reasonable distances.....it's the way it is with this game! We can't make it do one thing and not effect something else. Night detection is the same way. When at night, the most logical thing is the darkness will hide your detection...….it happens to be exactly the opposite! Those parameters are backwards to what they should! Another game behavior that's dependent on a hard coded solution that is actually reversed to what it needs to be. And, there isn't anything we can do about it since the hard coded mistake is set within the game.

I did have one drop mission where the raft self-destructed in a large explosion almost immediately after leaving my boat! The mission was still considered complete, my crew announced a ship contact at close range (!), I could still see the raft on the Nav Map (contacts on), but visually the raft was aflame. Hope he made it. I didn't stick around to find out.

The issue was when you tried to load the save game from the patrol on the Narwhal it gave a CTD

Moving closer to center I then turned towards the group bow on to allow the next Kuma to my 270. Back up to periscope depth and yes I can hear the depth charges dropping at my first fire position. Back to ahead slow. 1200 yards from second Kuma. One forward tube fired at Kuma then one rear saving one rear in case of a dud. One hit one dud fired last read tube at 900 yards. Second detonation. No time to wait for a turn on another forward tube because I know the DD will come in. Ahead flank once again staying at periscope depth ... no DD within 3000 yards save one that was following the second Kuma. Dove back to 250 feet and waited 5 minutes then back to periscope depth. DD kept going and didn't hear me. Drop to ahead slow One of the only two merchants coming at me zig zag. Waited until she was within 700 yards and put two fish into her. Both hits. Second Kuma sank. Merchant sank. DD never left attacking my first fire position. I moved out at 2 knots 300 feet.
