You try to send things into space, and attempt for them not to blow up. Although either way, the mission is considered a success.

Sounds simple enough...

The premise of the game is you are a race of beings known as Kerbals who want to start exploring the solar system. They're sort of like backyard rocketeers, its more about getting there than actually figuring up the most efficient way to do it.

I think the economy will be based off how successful your program is. The more you're able to do, the larger your budget.

Kerbal Space Program is a multi-genre game where the players create their own space program.
In KSP, you must build a space-worthy craft, capable of flying its crew out into space, without killing them. At your disposal is a collection of parts, which must be assembled to create a functional ship. Each part has its own function and will affect the way a ship flies (or doesn't). So strap yourself in, and get ready to try some Rocket Science!

Main Features:

  • The Vehicle Assembly Building and the Space Plane Hangar allows players to build spacecraft out of any imaginable combination of parts.
  • Fully-fledged, Physics-based Flight Simulation ensures everything will fly (and crash) as it should.
  • Take your Kerbal crew out of the ship and do Extra Vehicular Activities
  • Fly out to Moons and other Planets
  • Procedural Terrain delivers detailed terrain at a vast scale. The Kerbal Planet is 600km in radius!
  • Mod-enabled, allows players to create new content and modify the game.
  • Ship systems. Keep an eye out for engine temperatures and fuel levels, and try not to explode.
  • Build ships with multiple stages, and jettison parts away as they burn out.
  • Build Space Stations, and surface bases on other worlds.
  • Full control over the staging sequence allows for complex ships and advanced functionality.

Planned Features:

  • A Tycoon-Style Career Mode.
  • Take on Contracts to attract interest in your Space Program.
  • Manage your crews. Hire astronauts, train them, and make them into heroes.
  • Research & Development: Advance the scientific knowledge of Kerbalkind as you progress towards conquering space.
  • And a whole lot more!
There is already a huge modding community that has added things ranging from engine parts to whole ships as well as background chatter and planet skins.

The game is very innovative with alot of humor infused into it as well as some inside jokes that are sprouting up already...

CMat, it's like Lego's, but with engines and asplosions! Lots of asplosions!

Perfect landing!

EDIT:
Some more shots from other various plane/space-plane attempts and failures.

The KB-1 or 'Tin Triangle', nice and stable but tricky to take off and...yeah, good luck landing it. Cruises up to 14,000m quite happily and I've yet to discover its range. No prizes for guessing the inspiration behind the design, even if it does look a bit like a Lancer from some angles.

The KSF-1, the first of my plane creations to make it out of the atmosphere. On returning though the aircraft became uncontrollable and crashed into the sea for reasons unknown. Two top theories are either 1) center of gravity problems with the empty rocket fuel tank, or 2) the stylish 'I wish I was an SR-71' tail fin positioning.

I guarantee it was fuel throwing your balance off. Having the center of gravity matching or slightly ahead of the center of lift is very important to stability. But there are fuel balancing mods out there that are great. Otherwise you have to try to balance by eye which can be real tricky with both jet and rocket fuel (fuel+oxidizer).

Anyhow some fuel balance mods:

This one will automatically balance all fuel tanks based on the center of mass you set in the VAB
http://kerbalspaceport.com/pwb-fuel-balancer-for-rcs/

This one is more of a manual fuel balancer, and is really great for refueling and quickly shifting fuel around. It can also automatically balance, but it does this by having the same % fuel in all tanks. Depending on design though, this may not work unless your craft is highly symmetrical.

Oh and for anyone reading that wants a good tutorial for learning how to fly spaceplanes, this is a pretty good tutorial from Scott Manley

I can kinda see a similarity between being on a cramped space station and being on a sub. I have to say I would feel much safer on Mir and ISS rather then a uboat hah

Anybody get .23 yet? I'm actually looking forward to this one, as I enjoyed the tech tree, and the revisions and improvements theyve promised makes me want it!

But I can't seem to get it. I couldn't find a download link earlier (They've changed the shop), and the launcher wasn't connecting. Now their site has crashed from the traffic.

Oh well, maybe tomorrow

Got it, but didn't have much of a chance to do much other than confirm it was 0.23.

Take my advice, transfer it across to Steam, much much more reliable than their site.
