Default RFB bugs; or, Hobson's choice. AAARGH

Got a little dilemma (and apologies if these issues have been thoroughly sorted elsewhere). Recently acquired SH4 and, separately, U-Boat Missions, so as to make sure I'm properly patched up to 1.5 as most mods require these days.

Right, first up: RFB 2.0 (and associated 23Apr2010 patch). For some reason, on my machine at least, contact reports don't show the enemy's course. Whether it's the single-contact squares on the main map screen or the radioman reporting a task force, it doesn't seem to matter: latitude and longitude are all present and correct, and even speed, but not course. I did some experimenting, and original SH4 doesn't have this problem, nor does it appear with U-Boat Missions; it only manifests in RFB 2.0 - with or without patch, doesn't seem to matter, alas. Obviously, this makes finding convoys/task forces etc. next to impossible unless you accidentally trip over them (rare, and a mite tedious).

Couldn't seem to find anybody who'd had this issue (much less fixed it), so I tried RFB 1.52 - yes, a step back, but worth it (I thought) if it fixed the problem. It did, but at a cost - namely, CTD when running at high TC's *after* sinking a few ships. Not remotely an issue heading west, but once I've sunk a few ships and want to head home, anything over about 2560 causes slowdown, and trying to go above 3584 causes a crash. Tried the 4GB patch tool, didn't make a difference. Also, this issue didn't appear once when I was playing RFB 2.0.

So that, good fellows (and fellowesses), is my dilemma. Play RFB 2.0 and only ever find singles and pairs that I accidentally blunder into; or play RFB 1.52, with niggly performance issues and a few other irritants that were evidently fixed in 2.0. What really has me stumped is that no-one else appears to have had my 2.0 contact report issue, which suggests it's something *I'm* doing, but I'm stuffed if I know what. I'm not running lots of mods, and I tested a "clean" 2.0 install (ie SH4 1.5 with RFB 2.0 and nothing else) and it still showed up. Not sure how much more - or rather less - I can do.

Apologies for the lengthy essay, and any suggestions gratefully received; I really don't want to give up on SH4, but I'm getting fed up, and TMO's apparently superhuman escorts don't really sound like my bag...
