SOLVED (FORTSU) No fire effects on ships
I have just noticed something unusual while playing with FORTSU.
When ships are hit either by a torpedo or a deck gun, a large explosion happens but after that, no fire starts on board whatsoever. I remember this mod having very good fire effects but seems like they are gone in a blink. This happened on all ships I hit. Large explosion that fades really fast and no fire, not even while sinking. What could cause this?

Usually, cross-contamination. Had you emptied the Save folder (usually C:\Users \Username \Documents \SH4) before starting FotRSU? What folder do you have the game installed in? What are your graphics settings in the game?

Graphic settings are set to Max on everything except Gamma. I will delete the saved games folder to see if it works as you suggested and keep you updated. I will post screenshots too

No, FORTSU is the only mod installed.

Looking at your two screen captures, I don't understand... Plenty of smoke and fire from the ship. The fires and smoke do depend upon what you've hit and where you hit it. I just ran a test mission and torpedoed a tanker and a carrier. I'll post that here as soon as it finishes rendering. There are a couple of interesting things about "perspective", and also a couple of anomalies in the game / mod.

FotRSU has a completely different environment from TMO (the campaign was based on TMO v1.7, as were the subs), and might be the same one Wolfpack may have added to the mod for his videos. Here's the test I just did:
Notice how looking at the smoke effect from the "rear" of the "stage" is different than from the "front". Certain distances and certain angles will change the way things look. It should favor the view from the submarine though... |

Is your install showing similar to what I did there? Are you expecting more from the mod? Note that the tanker there is full of oil. If it was loaded with AvGas, it would have had a bigger explosion and more intense fire of shorter duration, similar to what the CVE did. An ammunition ship really blows up and then disappears rather fast, comparatively. An empty tanker would be like a freighter, in that no major explosions after the torpedo impact, but maybe some fire. Just not as much. Some ships are quite impressive when they explode and burn. Others, not so much.
There really isn't much involved in doing something like that vid. I used an old test mission that was already "built", where I was testing the dud percentages of torpedoes in FotRSU, so I already had the single mission. I start the game, start MSI Afterburner, run the mission and start the recording. Finish the mission - maybe 5 minutes total. Then I start my VMS app, drag the footage into it, make some text and render - again, about 5 minutes. I walk away while it renders. Come back later, start the upload to YouTube and walk away again. Come back later and "publish", post to you - again, maybe 5 minutes. I learn stuff, you learn stuff, other people learn stuff... even if it's a "don't do this at home" kind of learning lesson... |

Propbeanie, I just wanted to thank you for drawing me back into what to my mind really makes SH4 stand out. I had forgotten how good the way the sinking ships in the sim...not necessarily look, but feel. With careers in SH3 and SH4 going on at the same time I never quite got past 1940, so I never got to play an American career, though I had a lot of fun with Op Monsun and fooled around with some of the earlier boats.
Watching your video reminded me of what I've been missing. Unfortunately I'm so tied up right now with everything that's going on in my life that I just don't have the time, but watching that one short clip fills me with an absolute lust to be on the water again. Maybe not until next year, but I sure am hoping. Thanks again for that blast of fresh salt air.

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=4420 It loads four medium composite freighters which don't have much oil or ammunition on, and that would explain why my explosions aren't so "fancy" in training. During the campaign (1941 for now) I have met small merchants only and a carrier which didn't take a critical hit, so I haven't seen many effects so far. I will be testing ship-vs-ship missions to see if we get the same results. EDIT: https://imgur.com/7152WPa LOOKING GOOD.
