Pre-WW1 submarines
Now, I dont know anything about modding, but it would be the best thing that could happen to me if there was a mod for SH4 that added pre-ww1 subs like the holland-boats or the c-class or anything that entered service before the S-class. Is there a mod like this? Or is someine interested in making one. Would appreciate it. Heres some eyecandy from pre-ww1 american subs: http://www.pigboats.com/index.html

Curse you sir! I have spent five hours looking at SOME of the website mentioned in your post. There's another five hours to be spent at least. Yikes!

Of course theres a lot of information, because there were a lot of sub-types. Just imagine fighting IJN battleships with the USS Hollands dynamite-gun. Or instead of having a periscope, youd be standing under the conning tower looking through the windows.

Now, to ~really~ get some excitement, you need a "submarine" from this game:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/414260/ one of those things where you use a bicycle chain drive and pedals to move forward, and a stick as long as you can manage, to hold your "torpedo"... YIKES! |

That's not a reflection on the game. I was wanting something more of a simulation and what I got was a board game gross abstraction that I could no longer wrap my brain around. It's a personal problem, I'm sure. Are sure the Hunley or other subs are now in there? And we need to get rid of all those darned decks on submarines. All they're good for is for officers to strut upon! (obscure John Holland reference)

The interesting thing was that most of the sub types were produced not sequentially, but in the same brief time frame and they all served together. Most were abandoned and scrapped in three or four years.
And I was amazed at how few fatal malfunctions and accidents actually happened, and how strange the causes of the accidents were.

Boo-ah-ha-ha-ha!... I was disappointed in the game's paradigm also. Reminiscent of Fighting Steel, but like you say, more of an Avalon Hill feel to it. Unless it's a recent addition, no subs... I do think a person could do a 'simulation' for a game from that time period. I'd like it. Just like it'll be extremely cool when iambecomelife finishes his WotK, it would really be cool to drive the Monitor. If they'd sell a coal smoke generator, you'd have all you'd need to be immersed... tic - no boiler explosions allowed though...
