Nvidia Control Panel and Inspector seem don´t take in account the game. For me, is a problem of the latest update for the GC. SH5 and SH3 works fine with Inspector, SH4 is ignored by the GC.

I will continue to test...

Many thanks and regards.

I've been playing around with the AA on my computer for the last month because I noticed that the AA didn't seem to working when playing SH4. I'm running a AMD RX580 in my computer. Nothing I've tried sofar seems to make any difference. Also have the latest drivers installed also.

With the recent incidents of you having "mod soup"....to the point of having mods installed, yet you're finding a Stock game interface. We're not too likely in going down another "rabbit hole" to figure out what you're doing.

Default My very first patrol

Dears,

long-time lurker, first-time poster reporting in.

Been playing submarine sims for some 20 years or so. Seen them all for SH4: TMO, RFB, RSRD, you name it.

Recently started a new career with FOTRSU 0.71 Public Beta. They gave me a Salmon class in December ‘41, Manilla. Head out to this area (13N 119E) they said. We give you new orders then they said. Alright. So I went.

Went to the bridge to navigate out of Manilla Harbor. Have never seen it sprawling with so much life. Submarines tucked in right next to me. Tugs casually cruising around. Airplanes patrolling right over my head. A trawler coming in.

Never seen a harbor as immersive as this. Just so much going on, so much to watch. For the first time in SH4, I really felt that the game world was alive. Well done.

So I went to my designation and got orders to engage and sink enemy shipping. Nothing new under the sun, I guess.

Japanese air cover was quite dense. Out of the ten days I was out, I only had one or two days without detecting airplanes. Out on the ocean, I had found one or two doing their rounds. Near Luzon, however, I had more, three or even four, circling, searching. They are easy to avoid or evade. But still, that’s quite much, don’t you think?

Didn’t find any shipping at first, apart from the occasional US vessel. But then one night I got lucky.

Had two merchants on the sonar. Crossing me slowly from starboard to port. No escort.

It was pitch-black, overcast with strong winds of 15m/s, heavy rain, and fog. Didn’t see s**t.

Closed in at full speed on the surface. Hard time to get a visual of course. But damn, I knew I had a good bearing on them, wouldn’t let that chance go away!

Finally saw them. Close and directly head. Very close! 700 yards and closing in fast. Immediately hit emergency back and gave them a full salvo from all four tubes. Got two hits on the first merchant, and one the second. No idea about my last fish, though. Maybe a dud. Or maybe a miss. Didn’t have much time for proper calculations.

The second merchant had some guns and gave me all she had. To no avail, given the storm and the darkness. I lost contact with her after few seconds, so I guessed her position and range and just shot some shells in the night. That was Modern Hansa Freighter. I think she had a texture problem, as she was painted in some standard gray from bow to stern and looked like a model kit.

The first merchant went down immediately after two torpedo hits. The second had one hit and maybe five or six shells until she gave up as well. Both merchants had something between 5000 to 6000t, if I remember correctly.

That’s quite a fast sinking, don’t you think? From RFB, I like the sinking mechanics best. Sometimes it takes long for a ship to go down (sometimes too long, granted). But there is always uncertainty. You don’t know for sure whether she had enough. Will she go down or does she need another fish in the belly? There is another strategic layer added by the sinking mechanics of RFB, don’t you think?

Anyway, went home to Manilla after that, and that would be my very first war patrol with FOTRSU. And what a great experience that was. Found it very immersive, and didn’t have any issues, except for the missing texture.

I look forward getting back to my boat for my second mission. Many thanks for your work on this great mod.

Best,
Yama

Your crew, being of relatively sound mind and fully qualified on said equipment, had no disciplinary or others issues, and they performed their duties (as far as you know)... You were then given command of a Balao boat and assigned to insert an agent on Hokkaido. I think I have a proper chronology, correct? However, now I'm confused about the radar issue - on the Balao?? What date was the radar issue? And you went out on your first patrol in the Balao in February, or was it March?? If the radar issue was on the Gudgeon, was it after you were almost sunk??... Thanks
You have the sequence correct. The only issue I ever had with the Gar boat was the known issue with the sonar operation (can't search manually, operator says "no contact" when asked to track a target, but can issue a single report on a contact).

The radar issue was on the Balao. I was given the Balao in February and outfitted her with all available options, including the Improved SD and the SJ-1 radars. She was not ready to sail until March, not unusual for an initial fitout period. First mission was the agent insertion at Akkashi. Radars appeared to function normally until the first of 3 incidents NE of Wake Island on the way back to Pearl.

Was the Radar damaged from a previous encounter?

Also, the Radar is not going to always produce a hit where the Sonar usually will. That's been factored into the game due to the fact Radar operations were essentially "new" when compared to the sonar/hydrophone operations. Radar, wasn't as reliable as the tried and true "active/passive" sonar operations. I'll have radar NOT pick up a target (when the sonar/hydrophone will) due to several reasons......The rocking of a surfaced sub will create a radar beam to raise up and down off the water surface. The beam is small and direct, if on a "sweep" the beam misses a certain point, you'll not get a detection. It could take several "sweeps" before it shows on the radar screen......sometimes it will also "disappear" after its first found as the sweeps take place. Again due to the unreliability of the radar unit when compared to sonar.

If you read the differences between the two sensor units, you'll see the sonar/hydrophone has a further working distance than the radar; a greater working "reliable" distance too.

These early units are not as reliable as the modern radar of today, so don't think you can get reliable results with the game....it's factored-in to not be 100% reliable.

so, what you are saying is that if i used a saved-game-in-port, after a re-install, i may still have some garbage leftover? that's tough to comprehend. no offense, mind you, just tough to comprehend.

Hi mark bonamer
Need uninstall your game,delete in "documents" your Sh4 folder, if you use steam need open steamapp/common and delete your SH4 folder ( simple uninstall no delete totally game)
Then clean registry with CCLeaner.. Restart PC and download again SH4

That is the problem with keeping Saved games. As much as we dislike losing our hard-earned career rankings, if soup develops, you do have to get rid of the whole Save folder. The game, after its initial loading of a new career from the Game folder, will then use information from the Save folder, almost exclusively. The game does seem to still use the Campaigns folders, and pulls new 'asset' encounters (ships, planes, etc) from those respective folders, but most everything else is Saved. Using an old Save will cross-contaminate your play and Save folder(s), unfortunately. Just the nature of the beast.

Note that it was an AIR contact that was not registered by the radar; it (and the subsequent 2 encounters) were seen visually, and not by radar except for the 3rd one, which was seen by both virtually simultaneously.

As an Update, I just finished rerunning the patrol from start to end. No anomalies whatsoever. So I suppose it could have been a result of having reloaded a save game during the first run of the patrol.

I think we can safely write this one off and not tie up valuable resources chasing a ghost problem. Thanks!

My concern torpedobait was the acquisition and sailing of the Baloa boat itself, but 1. you did not sail from Pearl Harbor before March 1st, 1943 with it, correct? and 2. you were assigned it before March 1st of 1943... ??

Here is the sequence taken direct from the Patrol Log:

1. Offered Balao boat on 12/3/42 after arriving in Brisbane from 4th successful patrol in GAR class boat (Gudgeon);
2. Magically appeared in Pearl Harbor on 12/3/42 to take possession of Balao;
3. Left Pearl Harbor on 12/23/42 for first patrol in Balao;
4. Completed Agent Insertion mission and arrived back in Pearl on 02/21/43;
5. Left on Second patrol in Balao from Pearl on 3/13/43
6. Arrived back in Pearl to accolades on 4/8/43.
7. Currently at Pearl Harbor, basking in the sun and drinking Mai Tai's on the beach at Waikiki awaiting next patrol assignment.

8. Holy Cow! Do you see that nurse? I think I'll go talk with her a while! We may be able to find something in common...

See, that shouldn't be... The Balao shouldn't be active at Pearl until after March 1st, 1943. The boat's UPC file doesn't have it active until February 4th, 1943. You can't do a New Construction with it until February 14th, 1943 at Mare Island. We've changed the dates for Mission availability in the Flotillas file... - something is hard-wired in the game...

As for the nurse, don't go trying to show her your old football injury... You know how that went back in the states. You were shipped overseas SAP pronto!...

Default FOTRSU - ship spawning on top of each other

here are some more screen shots of ships spawning all over each other (). for those of your keeping score, 6/16/42 east side of Guam harbor approx 1215.

this one is a Hansa and Medium Raked Bow (i think).

this is a Hansa, a Medium Old Split, and a Composite Superstr. (three, three, three for the price of one).

and lastly, here they are sunk to Davy Jones' locker.

it took me few minutes to figure out what was what on radar but i recognized it much sooner because of my experiences a few days ago in davao harbor.
anyway, have a good laugh.
