Watch crew is literally blind

I just got sh4. first campaign, first engagement with a lone merchantman, sonar worked perfectly, the watch crew only reported once i went up on the bridge to have a look around. and there was the merchantman less than 500 yd away. second merchant, the same. the third ship was a destroyer. and the only reason why i wasnt sunk before i dived, is because the destroyer held fire until i went up on the bridge.i only lost the whole conning tower. is there a way to make the watch open their their eyes?

Are you using vanilla SH4? SH4 1.5? Do you have some mod?

I have the beginners mod installed according to the pinned guide. I realize now i should have mentioned that.

Did you empty the Save folder (C:\Users \UserName \Documents \SH4) before playing the modded game? Some changes are made that do not get updated unless you empty the folder, which forces the computer to make a new set of files to use. Also, what folder do you have the game installed in?
