This doesn't happen every mission which is what is most irritating, sometimes you can be in 200ft of water and they'll sail by, but other times when you're in 350ft of water and Superman is the skipper of that destroyer its campaign time over.
That is the original game play from Fall of the Rising Sun. MadMax and Ducimus worked together on some of the AI, and I believe they may have purposefully made it to where you lose sonar contact after gaining an early "hit", to simulate issues that were encountered, although it seems to "activate" way out there. As far as the destroyers, it looks like they do have it September 1944 everywhere all the time, and you'll find some DD make a bee-line for your location, and will drop 'em deep on you. I'm trying to extricate my boat from a situation now, where the DD have dropped right on top of me, but are going way deep, and I'm at like 160 under the thermal layer. I do believe the last run they didn't go as deep, because we have taken "damage" and the crew is now SHOUTING AT ME!!! So between Rockin Robbins and CapnScurvy, we hope they can find a balance for the AI at both ends, your boat and the enemies', for the base mod, but it might be a couple more iterations of the mod, down the road yet. For now, cdrsubron7 has hopefully sussed-out the rest of the bad RGG and Unit calls, as we seem to have a stable Campaign layer, and that'll get cooked into the next FotRSU batch. Do you have any Museum issues Moonlight? Does everything have "skin"?

@propbeanie
I've got no problems in the museum and apart from those bungo pete destroyers I'm very happy with the rest of this mod as it is, even though those aircraft can be eagle eyed assassins, without radar the pacific would be a blinking nightmare.

Actually, this is ~after~ you've clicked on the "Gameplay" of the Options screen, after clicking on the radio... I've already un-ticked the "No External View" box and left everything else the same. I now have a 90% "realistic" game. I had a label with an arrow in the upper left of that pic pointing at the radio, but alas, I failed with the "layers" and the export came out "flat" without either the text or my wonderful arrow art work... but "The Radio" is up the by the "Limited Batteries" area is... - Now, don't forget to hit "Apply changes" before you "Back" to the sub-menu...

Anyway, took my patrol assignment, which is to destroy shipping near Guam for the next five days (it's January 1943). Departing Pearl, I hit F12 and I'm outside the boat:

and as I fly off to the East and a bit North:

So if you've set-up like that, and can't get an F12 or the Camera Menu buttons to take you outside, there might be something not quite right with your install.

Propbeanie!

Thank you! I am outside the boat now. I haven't tried the F12 yet but have been using the toolbar in the lower left of my screen to get to the external camera.

Bungo Pete is easy-peasy compared to some of the "Super-Elite" yae-whoose out there... All I can say for now is that it is beta, and we are working on it. The plan is to get it more in the TMO area, or a pinch lower, and make that a "Normal" setting. Then do a mod with several levels of decreased and increased difficulty settings. Remember, this was written for "team" playing, and by the looks of it, you almost need a "wingman" in some of these scenarios...

Just checkin', been playing .40 Beta for few days 2-3 hours per and been getting CTD in each play period. But can't reproduce them by repeating the sailing track from a prior save point! Nothing seems to be spawning (no stutters, slow downs) either! Last one at 130N 40' - 29n 30', play date May 21 '42 around 10:00AM. I restarted from a save at earlier time and sailed on same track and thru that location, no CTD, but a 2 ship spawn occurred at 15:00 hours further along my plotted track. This was typical of the 3 or 4 CTDs I' ve been getting.
Don't see others reporting CTDs like that so wondering if I have corrupted install. I'll restore my SHIV from my "pristine" and see what happens. I've only used JSGME to remove replace two small mods. Anyone think an LAA version of JSGME is needed for FotRS Ultimate?

Your install is probably fine jldjs. You guys are running on a slightly buggered Campaign layer. cdrsubron7 has double- and triple-checked my previous work, and found more bad ship calls in 22 of the files. We'll be getting them incorporated into the next mix of the mod. Don't know how long just yet, or if there'll be anything else in it...

Those campaign fixes propbeanie mentioned can be downloaded from in this thread, after searching around you can now download them from in this post.

If you just can't wait, you can try cdrsubron7's two sets combined into
cdrsubron7sCampFixes.7z
This is NOT 'official', and will be in the next version RR is uploading.
There is no ReadMe with this, but is JSGME compatible. Click on the "No thanks. Continue to view" and then the "Download" button.

That's not quite all the files anymore Moonlight, but is the majority of them. It will definitely help if you are doing the Southwest Pacific area, which is (naturally) where most of the traffic is.

Default Minor Nit re: Betty "Dive" Bomber Tag

If I am unlucky enough to actually make a visual on an incoming Betty, the map designation for the bogey is "...Betty Dive Bomber". Isn't the Betty a medium bomber rather than a diver? The Val designation is correct. Thanks!

Yes, it is a land-based, long-range, medium bomber. That "medium" being key in why it is in the dive bomber grouping, because the only other choice is "heavy", and it ain't that. They were rather nimble for what they were, and could even carry a torpedo, so that would make it a torpedo bomber. Them and the British Mosquito are very similar... There's a couple other planes whose designations bother me, but I can't remember them at this time. I'm lucky anymore to remember my own name...

Default Deadly merchants

The problem is not only with escorts but also the merchies have bloody accurate guns and super-man eyes.I've been attacked from 5500 yds in night and 7000 yds at dusk with no fog and always take damage (13% hull but fortunately subsystems take minor damage).

After merging the v2.0 with v1.3 or FOTRS it was found that the MADMax AOTD team had made all Japanese super elite in the AI. This was discovered while the first Beta testing was going on. The AI has since been toned down but not completely. The best thing I can say is that it is still a work in progress. As RR has mentioned, you will have different choices for the level of difficulty with which you choose to play.

If you've got more than 2 gig's of ram, with either a 32 or 64 bit OS......What are you waiting for!?!? LAA is a must!

I'm just about ready to post a work thru for getting Large Address Aware enabled on a Windows10 Anniversary edition. There are some steps that you'll need to do in order to get it up and enabled onto your sh4.exe file. I'll be going over them in this future tutorial.

I bring this up because without adding LAA to my new i5-6500 3.20Ghz CPU with 8Gb of ram and running 2 RX 420 AMD video cards in CrossfireX mode, the FOTRSU v0.40 Beta Museum would crash to desktop on trying to open ever time. Adding LAA to the new install, it now hums through the Museum like a well oiled machine.

You'll need to make sure of a couple of things that I'll discuss when I post this tutorial....stay tuned.

It was a plane that could do several tasks, Dive bomb, Torpedo bomb, Level bomb. It could do it all. It could also ignite, and burn like a cheap lit cigar....thus its nick name the "Cigar" or Flying Lighter".

As a Torpedo Bomber, its most notable "kill" was against the British Battleships the "Prince of Wales" and "Repulse" in late 1941.

================

One thing I'd like to ask you guys trying out FOTRSU. Try to use FOTRSU as your only mod in-game. Too many times false reports of issues can come in due to mod incompatibility. This Beta is a test mod that needs good testing. So, please limit your gameplay to just trying FOTRSU alone.
