I always make sure to to do a regular copy-paste backup of my career files, just in case anything happens. Came in handy recently when I installed 1.02 and my career folder was empty. Didn't loose anything except a few hundred miles up the north sea. Don't know if this is at all relevant to any save-file issues you might have had.
