For a second there, I thought it was RP2's release.

Someone said last night in the KerbalKon livestream, "I wonder what will come first KSP .18 or RP2".

Would've been hilarious if RP2 launched today.

Wait... how does my post about Thaumcraft spotlight part 2 appear as post #4217??

EDIT: Hmm.. it shows the date of post as 1 December, that's weird, I made that post few minutes before this one.

EDIT2: Some news on RP2

<slowpoke> here is the news on RP
<slowpoke> There are 4 serious bugs left to resolve in Red Power 2. There has been no progress over the last week due to Eloraam being swamped with work in real life. Things have eased off now and Eloraam has returned to coding this weekend and hopes to have something ready for release soon.

And more FTB delays:

This would lead to a chain of events that would cumulate in the end of world.

It is hoped that by delaying the upcoming release of Red Power we can avoid this disaster and may get to see a future where we finally get to a point where FTB can release a stable mod pack, the hard work of Pahimar and Soaryn isn't wasted and we all get to see the amazing looking Equivalent Exchange and Xycraft, and Notch and Jeb finally give the mod developers a few weeks to breathe by not releasing a new version or update to Minecraft (OK sorry, I admit it, the last one is a dream).

Anyways, you can all relax for the next few weeks, give your F5 key a much earned break and enjoy the awesome mods that are already out there.

So are we going to be looking at a new world with some of the FTB Launcher mods for the new year?

Been playing some FTB Beta pack on SSP. Some of the new biomes are stunning. I reccomend paying a visit to Redwood or Autumn Trees biomes.

Yea, some of them are quite pretty.

Just tends to bog down my performance in some areas.

Indeed, and I haven't even made any large machine compexes yet. I'm playing the mindcrack pack. It crapped out on me numerous times when generating the world in the beginning, and last time when waterflow reorganised on a slope due to removal of a source block. The FTB launcher log said the system couldn't keep up. But it works for the most part.

Using the Direworlf20 pack myself.

It's not surprising the new biomes cause performance hits, they tend to be
"busier" than the vanilla ones.

Etho mentioned that Optifine helped in his case, but havent tried that myself.
