Default Looking for some good WWI films

Any recomendations? I know about All Quiet on the Western Front and Lost Battalion, so what else is out there?

I'm a huge fan of Wings, which won the very first Oscar for Best Picture back in 1927. It still has some of the best flying sequences ever. Also there's Howard Hughes's Hell's Angels and Sergeant York. I'm sure I'll think of some more.

Renoir's Grand Illusion is considered a masterpiece:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Illusion_(film)

Then there's the Kubrick film Paths Of Glory, also good. Reportedly Kirk Douglas's favorite film of all the ones he made:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paths_of_Glory

And of course there's always Gallipoli:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallipoli_(1981_film)

And Sergeant York:

King & Country is one that I happened to catch a good bit of on TCM. I hope I can see all of it someday as it was quite compelling:

And Lawrence of Arabia certainly counts!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_of_Arabia_(film)

Hell's Angels:

The Dawn Patrol:

The Lost Patrol:

@ Steve: Wings was one I thought of immediately too, but from what I understand it's never been released here on DVD.

Had a look at Amazon and what they have appear to be cheaply made "all regions" DVDs from low-rent Asian distributors (one of which I learned to avoid like the plague when I was putting together my Kurosawa collection). Wikipedia says this movie is now the ONLY Best Picture winner never to have been released on DVD for Region 1. What a shame.

@McBee: most of those Wiki links probably have plot synopses. So don't scroll down too far!

So, you mean the Germans might win?

I've seen "Red Baron". Nice to see Hollywood has ruined German cinema. Then there's "Flyboys".

I've also seen the film about the Christmas 1915(?) truce. That one was pretty good.

Just watch the Blackadder episodes set in World War One and you're covered.

Mr. Bean never looked so conniving, Doctor House never looked so dim.....

Stupid question but: You know there were two versions right?

Check out My Boy Jack. I saw it once on PBS and remembered it was good, but not much combat; mostly its set on the home front.

It would appear you're right. Good thing I have it on VHS. Of course I don't have a real TV right now...

Ooh, completely forgot The Blue Max. Also for some silly fun there's the entire Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. Indy joined the Belgian army at 17, and has a huge amount of adventures.

I wasn't including Blue Max on my list; seen it/own it.
I'm kinda surprised no one has made any movies about the first aces. I think that would make a good movie. Meet the Fokkers.

I'd like to see a film about the greatest submarine ace of them all.
